Summary: Cool Cheesy 70's Sci-Fi
Review: This is what cheesy 70's sci-fi is all about! Bad hair, bad dialogue, and sexy-stupid costumes. I must admit that I find this movie thoroughly entertaining and provocative, however. There are several themes at work here and the story operates on many different levels. I also think that the film is great eye-candy, even though it hasn't aged very well.

The film is engaging and fun, although I do agree that it lacks a bit after Logan and Jessica escape, but it picks back up in Washington. I could have done without Box, what the heck was that all about, anyway?

Where can I get one of those transporters Logan beamed Jenny Augutter in on?

Summary: Peter Ustinov's acting is superb
Review: What an actor! Mr. Ustinov plays a nice old man in a way that i haven't seen before! I kind of remeberd this movie from its original release, but having the chance to see it again and listen to the director's and Michael York's comments really enhanced the experience. Though the sets may seem a little dull for today's standards, the overall message of the movie and the great sci fi story that it is make it worth buying. Although the DVD version offers no great differences to the VHS version, i think DVD will really take over in the next years, so better catch up with the future right now. If you're a Sci Fi lover, you should get this one.

Review: Much better special effects than the Titanic. Who was that guy in the ice cave? Looked like he was a leftover from Battlestar Galactica. The styrofoam seagulls were an excellent plot twist. Where can I get one of those space pods?

Review: This adventure is one of the beter films at it's time.The idea of friends to the end changes quickly when you have to perserve yourself.Micheal York is a very good actor and made the run for a new life convining,I also like this movie that I had the chance while working on the film Gettysburg to tell Richard Jordan how much I really liked it.If you are looking for an adventure that you can sit back escape into this is the film you want,you will be impressed

Summary: Deserves a little more respect than has been shown
Review: To review a movie usually means citing what is wrong with it more than what is right. Luckily, in the case of 'Logan's Run', there is quite a bit that is right with it. It has vision, SFX, a strong, novel-derived plot and tremendous depth. If you factor in excellent art direction and acting, you have a 4.5 star film, hands down. Unfortunately, there are a few elements which serve to dilute this otherwise staggering knit of sci-fi. Casting Ustinov was a mistake as he exudes a cheesiness which makes the film's last third drag excruciatingly. Secondly (and through no fault of its own), 'Logan's Run' is just too rich in texture for its own good. While the set designs are no less than awesome, the 'tone' of the movie is far too light in the last segment. While the destruction of the totalitarian state is beautiful, there's little realism in the conclusion and too much symbolism. This is not to say that 'Logan's Run' should have been extended in shoot for another 20mins or so; it is quite long enough at 2 hours. However, it seems as if too much currency was put into allegory and too little invested in heightening suspense via predicamental naturalism. 1976 was a good year for sci-fi in the sense that it was the last in which a picture could walk without having to worry about its standing in relation to 'Star Wars'. What ultimately killed 'Logan's Run', though, was the fact that it could be nothing else but a 'flash-in-the-pan', the excitement left in its wake doomed to become utterly muted by the rampaging glory of George Lucas' 'gambled hit.' 'Logan's Run' is well worth at least a rental in the sense that it must be seen to be believed. While it hasn't aged well at all, the viewer is at least compelled to appreciate the sheer scale of production that the original picture had. While not so obscure as to be a curio, this film certainly should be watched without chronological bias. This is difficult to do as we live in an era where we are constantly being bombarded with state-of-the-art science fiction thanks to the do-gooders behind the myriad Star Trek rip-off series and have lost the ability to be impressed by what we used to be only capable of experiencing at the cinema. I'd really intended 3.5 stars but I suddenly remembered just how much I resented the 'easy way out' method utilised in the conclusion. Salvaged from cult status purely by the fact that it has just too many redeeming features. 'Logan's Run' is trapped in a limbo between blockbuster sci-fi picture and television-friendly, Saturday show.

Summary: Worth A Watch.
Review: Until quite recently, I had never seen Logan's Run. I can easily say that it's a pretty good movie that makes you think. The plot is interesting and there's no doubt that this is a creative movie. Michael York is a great actor and doesn't disappoint. I admit that it's not one of my favorite movies, but I still like it enough to have watched it a handful of times. An added bonus to the DVD is the director's commentary--this is very insightful and sheds a lot of light on things that may be unclear about the movie to some viewers. A fun, though-provoking movie that is worth a watch.

Summary: Better Than Star Wars & Star Trek Combined
Review: Although people dump on this movie for its "shopping mall-like" sets and pastel unisex clothes, it's still one of the most original Sci-Fi films ever made. Star Wars was nothing more than a futuristic version of the Magnificent Seven, and Star Trek's themes ring hollow when compared to the risk Logan takes in challenging the system.

This is a great film and will remain a classic even if the rumored remake comes to fruition.

Summary: cool until the second half
Review: I liked this movie up until the part when Logan and Jessica go outside of the dome. The scenes of Washington DC look cool, but the story gets pretty boring after that. Apart from that, this movie is cool! I know its kinda cheesy, but that's why I liked it.

Summary: Worth-a-watch sci-fi classic
Review: All hail Jenny Agutter, for she is god. Well, I know it's not the normal way to start a review, but I've been a fan of Ms Agutter for many a year, and it was her presence which drove me to seek out this classic sci-fi flick.

The special effects fall a bit short of Star Wars (released less than a year later), and the budget was presumably wasted on the overgrown Washington DC, but the entire feel is of a possible future; a place that could exist...but probably won't.

The hook to this film is the 30's sentence, and this in itself adds an interest to the entire movie. However, the plot does seem a bit bizarre on occasions (the kooky robot, for example), and you do find yourself nodding off towards the end when he finally escapes.

I think it was a very difficult story to end satisfactorally, and it tries its best, but you are left feeling slightly let down, as if 'Was that it?' is hanging in the air.

All in all, I'd recommend buying the far more dazzling 'Twelve Monkeys' for a good futuristic holocaust pic, or try the book 'Chrysalids' by John Wyndham as another alternative (similair kooky ending, but carried off better in text). Do watch this film, though, because it is worth it for the originality factor alone.

One more thing...buy it for someones 30th. They'll love it.

Summary: Review of an intelligent perception of the future
Review: Logan's Run is an adaptation of a good science fiction novel. It is the story of a post-apocalyptic future where the descendents of the Washington, D.C. population must live in a domed city isolated from the world outside. The domed city is operated by a central artificial intelligence that enforces the idea of "renewal" at thirty years of age. Basically, the people go through an elaborate ritual on their thirtieth birthdays to give up their lives so that the city will not become overpopulated. The people live in blissful ignorance and believe that this is how life has always been. The movie analyzes how Logan Five, a sandman responsible for eliminating those people who want to live past thirty, is assigned the task of finding the safe haven for those older than thirty and destroying it. In the process, Logan discovers the lie perpetuated by the city computer and works to set humanity free once again.

Since Star Wars and Star Trek came to the big screen, viewers have berated Logan's Run for being childish or for having terrible special effects. What these individuals have failed to realize is that the effects were considered state-of-the-art in 1976 and won the film an Academy Award. This movie is an example of an important building block in the development of special effects and cinematography as we enjoy them today. The story was changed from the original novel only because the book's landscape would have been impossible to duplicate at the time. If you want to see a movie that is enjoyable and thought-provoking, then watch Logan's Run.
