Rating: Summary: Needs a DVD release! Review: Fans must have the DVD with all the footage. In the VHS Directors cut, John talked about how Snake went to jail for trying to rob a futuristic looking bank. It looked so cool! Please John, we must have a DVD loaded with everything. As you can tell, all the fans think this movie is more than deserving of it.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST JOHN CARPENTER FILM EVER! Review: Escape From New York is by far Carpenter's best film. It's uniquely original plot involves a convicted felon, Kurt Russell, who sent into New York City, the nation's maximum security prison, to rescue the president. Of course the film has it's flaws (although minor), but it is a very fun, and action packed movie. Any fan of action films should make it a priority to see this film. The film did spawn a poor sequel, but true fans should stick to the original. Overall a dark, gritty, action packed glimpse into the future of mankind, with a fantastic ending that is the trademark of all Carpenter films. It also features a wonderful soundtrack, probably his best since Halloween. Do yourself a favor, and be sure to see this movie! Truly a one of a kind film that should not be missed by anyone!
Rating: Summary: The King of all Anti-Hero's! Review: Escape from New York is a brilliant piece of film-making. John Carpenter makes one of the 80's best action Movies and creates Snake Plissken... The King, the Killer of Millions, the Fighter for basic Human rights, the... I've trailed off, haven't I. See this movie, it is brilliant.
Rating: Summary: possibly better than l.a. Review: this is a very fun film to watch and i highly recommend it to john carpentar fans. those looking for action will probably be disappointed and i suggest they watch escape from l.a.,which is,possibly,an action fan's dream.
Rating: Summary: A huge disappointment Review: I'm a huge John Carpenter fan and before I watched Escape From New York, I already saw a dozen of his films. One of them was Escape From L.A. which I found to be one of his best films. So I looked for its predecessor and found it. Needless to say, I had huge expectations for it, not only because of how good L.A. was but mainly because of the good reviews it received for those who saw the film. My thoughts of it: A big disappointment. The film had the chance to go two directions that would have made it more than just passable entertainment. It could have been a suspenseful science fiction tale or a fun action/adventure but instead it goes on a different route. The film ends up being dark and bleak with no sense of direction. There are some action scenes but they last only several seconds, at most two minutes. As for science fiction, the word never crossed my mind while I watched the film. If you've never seen the Escape films before, I would recommend you watch Escape From L.A. instead. It's much more fun, has much better special effects, and the acting is above average for this type of film.
Rating: Summary: This Movie is absoulty Awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: John Carpenter's "Escape From New York" is Sci-Fi fantasy at it's best. I can't wait for the new release of the movie at the end of the year and look forward to watching it over and over again. This is a must see for anyone who enjoys fantasy movies about the future (Or what would have been the future since it takes place in 1997). I just hope that the DVD release includes the footage that was cut from the original.
Rating: Summary: DVD IS FINALLY COMING! Review: It's about time. 12/31/99 is the supposed release date. I hope the world doesn't come to an end in Y2K, then I'll never have seen Escape from NY on DVD.
Rating: Summary: Cynical, dark, and brillant. Review: I have been a John Carpenter fan for years now, and I have to say this is his best. It is much better than Escape from LA, and Kurt Russel is in top form as Snake Plissken. I've lost count of how many times I've seen this movie. Snake is the best loner, anti-hero, borderline psychotic in movie history.
Rating: Summary: Do you like '80s/synths/analog things and brillant minds? Review: Hei! I watch this film nearly every year.. I have three original tapes (PAL/Ita) and a lot of backups! I love it so much! All EFNY lovers should ask what they promised but never released, a LaserDisc (ok, now better DVD) version of EFNY with FULL bank robbery scene, stripped from the original release. Last sentence: this film is the incarnation of the best of mid '80s.. where music was good music, and sci-fi films was real enjoiable films.. GET IT! Too bad these days (incl. the recent EFNA).. :-)
Rating: Summary: Carpenter's best! Review: Why is this movie not widely available on DVD like Escape from L.A.?!?! I've worn out two VHS copies! I'm tired of having people to young to remember this film tell me how great Escape from L.A. is. I guess you can't blame Carpenter for trying to cash in on a young audience.
