Rating: Summary: An Extraordinary True Spy Story With An Excellent Cast Review: A portrait of spies and spying that is as chilling as it is compelling, and as riveting as any James Bond adventure. This is a true-story marvellous film about Israel's legendary Elie Cohen who is persuaded to become a secret agent and winds up leading a double life -- as a mild mannered husband and father in Israel, and as a wealthy businessman who infiltrates the highest levels of the Syrian government. Incredibly, he is so successful, that he is nominated to be the Defense Minister of Syria. Fantastic. And, true. Eli Wallach is extraordinary as the head of Israel's Mossad who is in charge of Cohen's mission. John Shea is convincing and believable as Elie Cohen. His wife, Nadia, is played with realistic passion by Israeli actress, Michal Bat-Adam. And, the Syrian General is played with strength and sensitivity by Sasson Gabay. These are all spellbinding performances, and all the more so because this a true story. Don't miss it!
Rating: Summary: The Impossible Spy - Seemingly impossible spy story true Review: Eli Cohen is an unlikely Israeli Spy - With his cover of as an Egyptian furniture salesman he penetrates to the highest levels of the Baath party in Syria for the Mossad before the 6 day war launched by Israel. He tours the Golan Heights making mental notes of bunkers (usually located under trees for shade). Passing on of all this information gave the Israeli's stategic advantage in the '67 war as they knocked out Syria's Golan defenses. Did Cohen finally get out? Thus the added suspense of how it all ends. Anyone with any interest in Israel or mid east policy must see this film. It is an incredible true story.
