Summary: DON'T WAISTE YOUR MONEY!!!
Review: This movie was a waste of time. I love Brad Pitt movies(I haven't seen 'The Mexican' yet though) and so far this is his worst. The entire plot is rediculous. Robert Redford always staying one step ahead of the other agents. NONSENSE! He always having to tell the story of 'Brad Pit's' character. They'd flash back 25-30 years and Both of them had the same hair style, sideburns and wrinkles on the face(Robert Redford) Too much time in the sun Robert-ever heard of sunscreen? Overall, this movie is ... and should be reported as so. I bought it first and lost bigtime. I highly recommend renting first. That's if you don't care to lose a couple of hours of your life. PS. I never had the closed captioning problem. ... Just thought I'd throw that in. Thanks

Summary: Good Story, Good Acting, Just a Little Boring
Review: Spy Game had all the potential to be a really good movie for me and for the most part it was. The acting was fine, the story was intriguing, the pace was a little slow at times, but that's ok with me. The over all production was fine. The thing that made this movie disappointing for me was that I was asked to believe that Brad Pitt's character served in Vietnam... and never aged. The story is about a spy who gets caught in a foreign country and the U.S. government is reluctant to rectify the situation in any acceptable manner. Robert Redford plays a C.I.A. agent on his last day before retirement. He gets the news that his friend/spy is in trouble and starts to gather information on what, if anything, is being done to attempt a rescue. When he finds out that the government is stalling, Redford starts to pull some strings of his own to get the rescue ball rolling. That's all fine and good except that the two characters: Redford's and Pitt's were supposed to have met in 1975 during the close of the war in Vietnam. And that would be okay if Brad Pitt looked anything like what Robert Redford does now. I mean really, if you want to tell a story and make it somewhat believable, at the very least throw a little make-up on an actor so that it looks like you TRIED to make it look like nearly thirty years have gone by. If you don't mind that kind of thing missing in a movie you might really like this. The telling of the story is really quite good. I really wanted to like Spy Game and it really could have been a fine movie experience for me but that age discrepancy kept me from really sitting back and enjoying myself. Oh well, another time, another movie perhaps. That's my take. What's yours? 3.8/5

Summary: STRANGE DVD
Review: The edition I rented from my local video store is not widescreened; I don't know why a full screen edition was ever produced since usually wqhen you get widescreen it is choice you can make on the DVD. It did have DTS though even though that featre is advertised as being on the widescreen edition.

Summary: An extrordinary chess match
Review: When I first saw this film in theatres, I thoroughly enjoyed it however was a bit dissapointed. I realized later that my discontent did not stem from the movie but the way it was marketed. In trailers, they portrayed the movie as a straight up action film in the tradition of "enemy of the state." This being said, the movie did not live up to THAT expectation. When I realized this and watched the movie for the second time on DVD, I saw this film for what it really was...A superb chess match between Redfords character and the CIA bureacracy. Everything else is truly secondary. Though exciting and dramatic, the storys (portrayed as flashbacks in the film) that Redfords character shares with the CIA taskforce, is really a strategy he is using to "win the game...a game which you dont want to lose" Again, these flashbacks are insightful and sometimes thrilling, but are not meant to be represented as elements for an action film. It is a thinking mans movie for someone who likes there intelligence films to be intelligent. Hence the title Spy Game. Remember, some games are not won by brute physical force but with brains and strategic thinking instead.

Summary: Can't turn off closed captioning
Review: I rented the widescreen version and after many frustrating attempts to turn off the closed captioning, I bought the full screen version. However, that didn't solve my problem. So I wrote to Universal and explained the problem, after a week they ask for my DVD player make and model, Toshiba SD-3109. That was two weeks ago!

Summary: Good story, and good looking actors....
Review: What more does this movie need? Less air time! This is a long movie, 127 minutes! It did keep my interest.
Robert Redford and Brad Pitt star in this one. Redford, Muir, is on his last day bfore retirement from the CIA. Brad Pitt, Bishop, once his "protege", is in a chinease prison and about to be executed.
The entire film is Muir flashing back to when he had originally met up with Bishop, and while explaining this to the CIA, is also trying to help Bishop escape. Does his plan work? Hmmm...I will not give to much away. It's a fast paced, well acted, sometimes funny, and very engrossing film that makes you think.
It's directed by Tony Scott, who is good at giving us very stylish looking action films like "True Romance" and "Enemy of the State".
For fans of Brad Pitt and Redford, you get to look at their cute faces a lot. Even in his mature state, Redford, is still very charming and handsome.
Worth the rental fee!!

Summary: Not too bad if you love Redford and Pitt
Review: This movie was fun to watch, and had some interesting plot twists; however, what made this movie seem even more far fetched than other spy thrillers is the fact that the movie makes the CIA look like a bunch of idiots and the only smart and clever one is 24 hours from retirement. I also have to agree with one of the reviewers about the fact that Redford and Pitt look exactly the same throughout the entire movie despite there being scenes from fifteen to twenty years in the past. I thought the movie was a bit slow and that the ending came a little fast, but I found it entertaining enough to hold my interest for the 127 minutes it lasted.

Summary: Cannot turn off captions!
Review: There is a definite problem with this particular DVD. Captioning comes and goes through out the entire movie. Makes watching this great movie incredibly difficult and frustrating. Movie is great.....but the DVD version is awful. I think I will just wait until they get the glitches out or buy on VHS when available.

Summary: Great movie but DVD is a real problem.....
Review: As the other reviewers mentioned, there is no way to turn off the close captioning for the hearing impared. It is annoying - we turned the movie off after 20 minutes and spent another hour trying to turn off the close captioning. Must be a DVD design flaw but why did not one notice this? Alas, the movie is a clever affair with many twists and turn and I enjoyed seeing it in the theater. Hopefully they will release a corrected DVD soon.
