Summary: it's one cool game
Review: I love it! The Best spy movie There is. Tony Scott is a great Director,all of his movies rock like "Enemy of the State","The Last Boyscout","Crimson Tide". Redford and Pitt are great teamed up just like Hackman and Smith in Enemy of the State. Tony knows how to kick [bottom]. A Five star movie!

Summary: good action and background - BAD LOGIC
Review: A story within a story, the background (flashbacks) on recruitment, training and action of Bishop (Brad Pitt) is nice to follow with some real "how to make a spy" sequences. However the present story has collosal logical blunders:
1. you don't design a rescue operation in 24 hours. (actually there was no planning.)
2. you don't attack a prison with 2 choppers and 10 men.
3. you don't attack another country by falsifying a signature
if you want to see a good action spy movie - try "the little drummer girl" based on the book by John Le Carre.

Summary: Am I the ONLY one??
Review: I can't even concentrate on this movie with the stupid closed captioning popping up every 10 seconds. I keep turning it off and it just keeps comin' on back. Is there something I've missed here? I've exchanged it twice already...this is ridicules.
As far as the movie goes....I couldn't get past the huge white block letters blocking the screen...so I have no comment.

Summary: A John Le Carre imitation
Review: Too much fluff. Too much imagery without any character development. Brad Pitt's charcter or that of the English girl (for whom he supposedly goes rogue) is underdeveloped to the maximum. Also, ending was too predictable and hence preposterous.

Summary: A bad bargain if I ever saw one...
Review: Spy Game is an intellectual "thriller" that brings together two of Hollywood's best: Robert Redford and Brad Pitt. Unfortunately, it was this attempt to be intelligent that brought the movie to its knees. The beginning of the movie seemed promising (Brad Pitt's desperate attempt to escape the Chinese prison), yet the script turned out be very dry and the action very limited. A large portion of Spy Game was spent largely on dialogue... not very good dialogue, mind you. More captivating films tend to show these professional spies in action, i.e. jumping out of airplanes or making large buildings explode. This may not be the case in real life, but it's what we paid to see.Robert Redford may have acted his character well, but was he interesting enough to glue his audience to the screen? And then about halfway into the film, Redford's character has a flashback back to the Vietnam days that almost completely de-rails the whole focus of the film. The viewers get stuck into a helicopter combat sequence that really adds nothing to the movie as a whole. >> 1 star. Takes a ridiculous amount of patience to enjoy this movie. Almost too much so.

Summary: Great DVD and help for those with Closed Caption Problems
Review: I loved the movie and think the extras on this DVD were superb. Unfortunately, I have a Toshiba player and had the problem of having the captions coming on all the time. I hated the idea of returning the DVD, being as I loved the movie so much. So, I began to search for a solution. On a DVD forum, I saw something someone had posted. To get the closed captioning to disappear, go to the bonus materials section of the DVD and turn on the Clandestine Ops option. Classified folder icons will pop up occasionally, but they are a lot less obtrusive than the constant closed captioning. I hope this helps, and, more importantly, I hope Amazon posts this review.

Summary: Spy Game
Review: I hated that the captioning would not stay off. I ordered FOUR copies with the same results. I did return the copies. However, the movie is good, I just wish I wasn't distracted by the words.

Review: I thought this was a thinking persons movie. If you're looking for action, don't look here. But if an intellectual movie is your cup of tea, by all means check this one out. By the way I have the wide screen version not the full screen as indicated earlier.

Summary: Bad DVD Design Implementation
Review: Apart from the narrative of the film (which I really enjoyed), the technical design of the DVD (the menus, intro clips, bonus material, soundtracks, etc.) was quite frustrating. For the intial DVD viewing, all the film montage multimedia effects involved in navigating the menus was somewhat entertaining. But, after the initial viewing, all this repeated material felt like a force-feeding. Also, the design of the soundtracks prevents the viewer from changing the languages/surround sound/director's commentary/subtitles at will through standard DVD controls. Instead, one must always go back to the overly elaborate menus (more film montage repeats) for any simple change, which quickly becomes quite tedious. Lastly, I would like to mention that the so-called "Alternate Ending" is identical to the "Theatrical Release Ending" with the exception of different background music. Certainly not worth buying for the "Alternate Ending" bonus material.

Summary: Spy Game (widescreen DVD)
Review: DVD problem: unable to turn off hearing impaired captioning. I both rented this DVD and bought it but the hearing impaired text appeared on the screen on each copy. I really like the movie but hate the poor quality of the DVD disc. This appears to be a systemic problem with other viewers as well. Think twice before buying any UNIVERSAL DVD.
