Summary: "She's had her kicks"
Review: As if you have not heard it a million times this is the definitive 007 movie. When some one mentions 007 this is the one that come in mind. It has well known good guys, bad guys and good-bad guys (Lotte Lenya). See her in the movie that made her famous "The Threepenny Opera" ASIN: 6303120741. Who can forget the posters of Daniela Bianchi with the velvet band around her throat? She even looks good through a periscope. And of course with out Sean Connery ("Dr. No" ASIN: 0792826884) there is no movie. This is almost a series of several mini movies as we move focus from one character to another. Gypsies don't equate to cypher devices. However it is all fun.

Review: FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE is without a doubt probably the best James Bond movie and is further proof that the earliar Bond movies are indeed superior to the later Bond movies that would sadly suffer from too many wild stunts and gimmick bloat. Great, believeable action scenes and a good spy story power this film instead of special effects. In this, his second outing James Bond (Sean Connery) is sent to Turkey to bring back a powerful Russian coding machine that England has been wanting for a long time. Unfortunatly the criminal group S.P.E.C.T.R.E. wants the coding machine too and have set up a plan to have Bond retrieve the device so that their agent, Donald Grant (Robert Shaw) can steal it from Bond and then kill him. S.P.E.C.T.R.E. hopes that these events with the stolen coding machine will end the Cold War between England and Russia. Connery definetly shows off his grit as Bond in the explosive, action filled finale of this film as he easily and takes on the dangers that are closing in around him as he gets closer to home, this movie was proof that he was the best Bond. If you want to see a great, classic action movie as well as see the kind of spy that James Bond used to be, see FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE. It's terrific.

Review: "Youre gonna stay there and die slowly untill you kiss my foot" Robert Shaw says to Bond( Connery) This is my all time favorite Bond film. Thankfully its not an action movie its a movie that has action. Lotte Lenya as Rosa Kleb is just terrific. We can see watching this film how the Bond series has degenerated through the years into insipid action films. This, second of Bond films, has a literate script, fine acting, double entendre that is not embarrassing and Mr. Connery. If you watch this film on broadcast Tv the finale in the canal will be edited. No, matter rent it, buy it..its the best.

Summary: From Russia With Love : James Bond's All Time High
Review: "From Russia With Love"- what a wonderful title. This has to be the best Bond film in the series, although Goldfinger and Dr.No follow close behind. Sure, I was born 20 years after it was released, but I know that this is what a James Bond is supposed to be. It's exciting, sexy, and most important of all, his mission is low-key. Bond is not saving the world like Roger Moore did in nearly all of his movies ( except for the great For Your Eyes Only) Anyway, Nobody Does It Better than James Bond and From Russia With Love is his All Time High.

Review: From Russia With Love is certainly an excellent OO7 film to date and is Connery's third best in my opinion, I like Thunderball and Goldfinger slightly better. The plot is that SPECTRE is bent on getting the LEKTOR, a top-secret decoding device. They plan to offer it to Bond from a young girl. SPECTRE plans then to kill OO7 and take the LEKTOR for themselves. The acting is excellent. sean Connery is in top form as the dashing British agent OO7, and few Bond girls are better than Daniela Binachi's Tatiana Romanavo. Robert Shaw and Lotte Lenya are superb villains, especially Shaw as Rosa Klebb and Donald "Red" Grant. Kerim Bey is wonderful as Pedro Armendariz. The action includes OO7 being chased by a helicopter, the famed "gypsy camp" scene, an incredible and long hand-to-hand fight aboard the Orient Express between Connery and Shaw, and a good boat chase near the end. The gadgets include Bond's attache case, Grant's garoutte wire watch, and Rosa Klebb's switchblade shoes. The script is very good, the cinematography is dark and brooding, and the settings are nice. The only problem is I didn't like the song that much but I loved the score. Overall, everything from the acting to the dark atmosphere, to the good DVD quality make this film a terrific OO7 film and a welcome edition to your DVD library.

Review: I think that 'From Russia W/ Love' is he best James Bond movie because pf many things. One - the best Bond actor is present - Sean Connery. Next - the best man for 'M' is there too - Bernard Lee. The best Miss Moneypenny is definitely Lois Maxwell and she's in this movie too. Q is always Desmond Llewellyn except for in 'Dr. No' and the attache case he gives 007 is one of the best gadgets that comes close to being realistic. Kerim Bey is well portrayed by Pedro Armendariz. Robert Shaw is a terrific actor for the assassin Red Grant and Lotte Lenya is menacing in the role of Rosa Klebb. Overall this movie contains all the best actors, especially Daniela Bianchi for Tatiana Romanova. This is directed by Terence Young who also did "Dr. No" and "Thunderball". This movie has no stupid jokes that are known for the Moore series of 007 movies. The only bad thing about this movie is that Blofeld isn't exactly identified in the credits. He actually was played by Anthony Dawson who played Professor Dent in "DR. No" but his voice was dubbed. Blofeld is only referred to as #1 by the other SPECTRE members instead of by his name. It's confusing. In conclusion, this movie is the best because of great actors, lack of dumb jokes, and the gadgets are actually believable. I read in a 007 book that even Connery thinks that this is the best movie, along with many 007 buffs such as myself. -Hasta Luego!

Summary: Bond Returns For The First Time in "From Russia With Love"
Review: "From Russia With Love", produced in 1963, is the second entry in the James Bond series and last to be completed before the death of Bond's literary creator, Ian Fleming. Like "Dr. No", "From Russia With Love" is based on Fleming's novel of the same title and it does follow the same basic outline. Sean Connery returns as 007 and many the players from the first movie return including Lois Maxwell as Miss Moneypenny, Bernard Lee as "M" and Eunice Gayson as Sylvia Trench (Sylvia was intended to be a recurring love interest for Bond in the series but her character was dropped after this release.) Of special note, actor Desmond Llewelyn debuted as Major Boothroyd (Q the armorer) and Walter Gotell as Morzeny the operative trainer for SPECTRE (Gotell is better known for playing General Gogel in later Bond films). The plot is a typical Cold War spy adventure with a twist: British and Soviet intelligence are being manipulated by a shadowy criminal organization known as SPECTRE, a name alluded to in "Dr No". Here moviegoers get their first inside look at SPECTRE and the extend of their considerable resources and organization. The plan hatched SPECTRE is bold, to have James Bond with the help of a defecting Russian cipher clerk stationed in Istanbul, Turkey, steal a top secret encoding machine from the Soviet embassy from there, kill him and the clerk, and sell the machine back to the Soviets. Initially, Bond thinks that the defection is probably staged and the clerk Tatiana Ramanova (played by Daniela Bianchi) is under orders from the KGB. Ramanova does in fact believe that she is under the orders of Colonel Rosa Klebb (Played by Lotte Lenya) of SMERSH (Soviet Intelligence) to give false information to the British. What Ramanova does not know is Klebb is now with SPECTRE. Klebb is overseeing the execution of SPECTRE's operation while trained assasin Red Grant (well acted by Robert Shaw) makes sure the operation stays on track, even if he must eliminate a few bystanders. The screenplay is well written and contains several good subplots including a visit to a Gypsy camp and the vendetta between Kerim Bey (played with great aplomb by Pedro Armendariz), Bond's contact in Istanbul and a Bulgarian assasin. The screenplay also provides an excellent primer on SPECTRE which appears in one form or another in six of the first seven Bond films. As is "Dr. No", Bond's equipment is decidedly low-tech, Bond must rely mainly on his wits to survive. Connery again gives an outstanding performance as the elegant but lethal James Bond. Robert Shaw exudes an incredible air of menace in his protrayal of Red Grant. The fight scene between Bond and Grant is one of the best of the entire series. There will be over seventeen Bond films made after "From Russia With Love", nearly all with bigger budgets and better production values, but none of these films could even approach the feel of the original Fleming novels that this one did. For this reason alone, many feel that "From Russia With Love" remains the one of the best if not the best in the series. Whether you are a Bond fan or just enjoy a good spy movie, make sure you put "From Russia With Love" into your movie collection. This reviewer has seen this movie both on VHS and the first release on DVD. The sound and print quality of the DVD is not as high as it could be, certainly not as good as the special edition Bond DVDs that MGM has released recently. There is even one scene in the widescreen version where the sky has a green spot on it! One might wait until MGM releases a special edition DVD before buying "From Russia With Love" unless one wants the ability to watch a "pan and scan" version rather than the letterbox format.

Review: From Russia With Love is the second of the Bond movies. Made in 1963. FRWL is about a mission given to 007 in which he has to get a transmitter. Through a gypsy village, making love with a woman while being videotaped, and manages to outsmart an almost insane assasin, Connery is very believable as Bond. Of all of the movies I've seen (which isn't exactly all of them) this one is one of the best, right up there with Goldfinger. The gadget Bond gets isn't exactly the best (but what could outdo the Goldfinger car?) and with only one other movie to "outdo" the film doesn't have as many thrills as the other Bond films, but is still really good, get this movie, you won't regret it!

Summary: One of the greatest Bond films...
Review: One of the best things about From Russia with Love is that it is not filled with "over-the-top" special effects, nor does Bond rely on an abundance of techno-wits instead of his own. This movie stands on the merits of it's plot and characters. Current producers and directors really need to look at why Bond is so popular. It's not because he has the best toys, it's because he fought on the right side of good and evil, and he was cool doing it.

Summary: OKAY ON ITS OWN
Review: On its own, From Russia With Love worked as a straight spy adventure. But note that it wasn't until GOldfinger that Bond really took off. If all the films follow FRWL's format, Bond would NEVER be as big or long lived. If you have seen all the films that came after Goldfinger, From Russia With Love will be disappointing, and BORING! BUt I have to say that everytime Lotte Lenya shows up, the film sizzles from her villainy. Great leading lady in the form of Daniela Bianchi. But as I said, the film can be at times boring if you are used to the later Bond films...especially when they board the train. As I said before, on its own, it is okay. But compared to the later films, it is a borefest.
