Rating: Summary: It doesn't work on centain DVD players Review: I rented the disc and won't play on my Philips DVD850AT player. I tried on the famous Apex 600A, it worked! While the DVD 850AT (that has a Dolby digital decorder built-in) was made in Japan and cost nearly 3 times more than the Apex 600A. I never have any problem with neither players, this is the first time I have trouble with a DVD disc that won't play in my player. I believe a lot of people will face the same problem that I had, because that Philips DVD player was made by Toshiba, as far as I know. I think these DVD asso. people are stupid enough to put region code on it and now, they are doing some even more stupid trying to get some new standard out that won't down competible to the original standard! The sound quality of this movie is good, the picture quality is the worst I have seen among all 40 + movies I have seen (at work and home). The story is far worse than the original Mission Impossible movie.
Rating: Summary: a stuggle to watch. Review: This movie is bad. I can't believe that this is the best that they could come up with for a sequel. Good effects and stunts are only good when they are believable in the context of the story. Right from the beginning the movie looses all believability and credibility. I haven't seen a movie this bad in a long time.
Rating: Summary: Good enough if watched with good sense Review: It sure has good stunts. The story line is good though it does not have many twists. Overall it leaves a good impression.
Rating: Summary: Loosen up, people Review: Movies are entertainment. The key word here is ENTERTAINMENT. Mission Impossible 2 was meant to be a summer blockbuster, and it was a very effective one at that. If you want dull Oscar contenders, wait until December, please. Oh, and the casting of Thandie Newton as the love interest was a refreshing change. It's so much better than just another non-descript, homely girl (like the ones in the 'Oscar' contender movies).
Rating: Summary: Vapid & Insipid Review: They should have named this movie "Matrix Wannabe". This is everything that is bad about Hollywood summer action films. The action sequences were beyond ridiculous. This movie made me want to bang my head against the wall repeatedly. I found this movie only slightly less annoying than cleaning my cat's litterbox. The only good thing I have to say about it is that it is visually entertaining.
Rating: Summary: Mission to Make a Blockbuster Review: If you're looking for great action and...effects this film does it all. If you're looking for a deep plot and expect to be emotionally involved don't bother. I was entertained and that is sufficient for me for this type of film. But what I found really fascinating was the way in which an old Hitchcock plot was reworked in the script. It used many of the same plot points of my favorite Hitchcock film 'Notorious'. A woman of questionable moral standards is sent in a top-secret mission to use her charms with a criminal who happens to be an old intimate acquaintance. There is a car chase together to heighten the...tension between the government agent and the saucy heroine. There is a poignant scene at the racetrack. The woman falls ill by the villains hand and the hero must save her thus sealing their love. How interesting that Tom should be the new Cary Grant, but I guess it was inevitable.
Rating: Summary: A mish mash of goo and slime Review: This is just another John Woo movie ; the protagonist ~always~ flies in the air, spiralling like a just-dropped wild-cat, both guns blazing ... thank god for only a pair of hands ; lest we have four or more hand guns blazing ! For those who liked the first "Mission Impossible" , be warned that this is the worst of all sequels. MI2 only shares the first two letters in common and that's about it ( and oh yea, Ethan Hunt too ). Besides that, forget Mission Impossible as you knew it. Ethan Hunt becomes a one man army (a la Rambo in Rambo III) instead of being a member of an elite team of highly trained, well-coordinated crack spies. The plot ( huh? ) is terrible and the movie is merely an excuse for special-effects pyrotechnics with the sound-engineers having a field day. On the positive side ( yes ! there IS a positive side ) the sound effects are great and the aural space is indeed very impressive. The visual effects are nice but nothing to write home about. And the scene in which Ethan brings the bike to a "one-wheelie (yippee)" halt and turns around to blow the car ? A definite must-avoid scene ... it reeks of machismo and nothing else to it. And the one in which he jumps sky-high of a speeding mobike ? The lesseor said the better ! After all is said and done , this is more of a movie made by the special FX team and the stunt co-ordinators . I guess in all the hoopla, they forgot to budget for a script-writer!
Rating: Summary: Overinflated action, weak plot Review: Of course, the typical action movie isn't known for its stunning plot, but I was hoping for a semblance of one here. Yes, this is better than the first movie. There is a clearer idea of what's going on. However, the slow-motion scenes, long fights scenes, and many other things made me wish as I sat there watching it that it would simply get over, because it was becoming a bore.
Rating: Summary: M:I 2 was an unnecessary sequel Review: Did this movie really tell much of a story? Does it remind anyone of the old show? The first one from 1996 was one of the more suspenseful movies of the 90s, and the second one is ridiculously stupid. What was with this face mask garbage? Nobody was anybody. Everybody had someone elses' face on and spoke in their voice. It got to the point where I couldn't take it anymore. It ruined the movie. It was so unrealistic. A few of the action sequences were good at the end, but the first hour and a half is so boring and undeveloping, nothing can save it. THE MUSIC WAS BAD.
Rating: Summary: A fun movie Review: One must keep in mind that the point of this action adventure movie is not to break new ground in a dramatic sense, but to entertain, and that it does. The story is nothing new, save the girl, kill the bad guy, and let the world drift on unknowing of the peril it was in. The key is the special effects, explosions, and fight scenes which are excelently done. Inparticular, this Mission Impossible has wonderfully choreographed fight sequences which the first Mission Impossible lacked. The musing in excellent and so is the editing. Everything flows. There are problems though. We don't know how or why our villian turned evil, the whole deadly virus thing has been done, and our hero never misses a single shot. If you're just an action adventure fan not into looking for holes, you'll enjory this movie.
