Summary: I still don't know what they were all after .........
Review: Can anybody tell me what's in the case? I mean people were killing each other like flies over this silvery case which was supposed to contain -- a pair of ice skates????!!!! Gimme a break!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: a much better mission impossible
Review: This movie has everything a great suspense/action movie should have: suspense, great acting, great filming, great scipt, and great plot. Outranks Mission:Impossible in plot, suspense, and acting. Excellent movie but not for those with short attention spans.

Summary: A spy thriller for intelligent people - a refreshing change
Review: First, if you think that a good thriller must involve: (a) lots of special effects; (b) a lead actor called Arnie or Bruce; (c) lots of violence; or (d) shots lasting a maximum of 2 seconds (otherwise they're beyond your attention span), then forget it, go and find another movie to watch whilst drinking your six pack.

However, if you long for 'non-arthouse' films which credit you with some intelligence, and reward you for being able to pay attention (something which film makers used to be able to take for granted), then you will *love* this film. The basic plot is apparently banal, but hides several layers of ambiguity. Those who dismissed it as 'cliched' are well advised to take another look - there is layer upon layer of deception, and I guarantee *nobody* will capture all the nuances the first time round. The action sequences follow with the narrative (i.e. it's not just a case of conversations being filler between the set pieces as with so many recent films in the same genre), and the final car chase through Paris is a modern classic. Add to this some wonderfully intelligent acting (De Niro is superb, but so are the rest of the cast), and solid sensible direction (from the unfairly underrated Frankenheimer) and you have a real treat.

The director's commentary on DVD by the director is excellent. Often it is just an excuse for a litany of 'x was wonderful, y did fantastic things', etc but Frankenhimer's comments are genuinely interesting and informative.

Buy this DVD - you will not regret it. And whilst you're about it, get yourself a copy of The Manchurian Candidate by the same director.

Summary: actually,maybe 3 stars,i'm not sure
Review: this is a very fine and well-crafted film made by the genius who made the masterpiece the manchurian candidate, john frankenheimer. the action is very thrilling, and the suspense decent. this film would have been a **** 1/2 star film if not for some silly scenes during the final chase scene and also a silly possibility about the case mentioned by (i forget) de niro or reno.

Summary: Outta gas
Review: I started watching this video at 6 p.m. After fifteen minutes I realized I couldn't understand a word any of them were saying. I turned up the sound until the walls vibrated. I could still barely make out the dialogue. Then I tried to understand what all the commotion was about: stealing a metal suitcase. Was this why the top terrorirsts or paid killers or whoever they were had all gathered in this scuzzy, colorless hideout to steal a stupid metal suitcase that had money in it? I turned off the sound and watched the first car chase. IT went on two, three, then seven minutes. I picked up a Nancy Drew mystery, "The Whispering Statue" and tried watching the movie. Another long car chase. People are blown away, maimed, and there are even more car chases. Before I knew it I had read most of the Nancy Drew book. I glanced at the screen. Another car chase. Robert DiNiro was turning in the same performance he's been turning in since Raging Bull. Nothing had changed. The chase scenes were just like those of Dirty Harry and The French Connection, more than 25 years ago. I turned off the video and began watching The French Connection. At least I could understand the dialogue. The acting was also better. Neither did the old movie cost nearly $70 million to make.

Summary: Save your money
Review: I'd rather have bamboo shoots put under my nails than watch this movie over. I am a true DeNiro fan, but he should have left this one alone. This is a glorified chase scene, with absolutely no plot.

Summary: Amazing movie!
Review: That's hell of a good movie. And some exciting driving adventures too

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Different but incredible
Review: This is not a movie for short attention spans- I had to watch it twice before I understood everything. Dialogue and plotting may confuse some- so watch it again! Perhaps the most realistic action/suspense movie I have seen, and a superb cast. It lacks the ostensibly witty scripting and overdone macho characters that are staples of most American films, and substitutes grim realism and an elegant storyline.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Great surround sound, awful movie
Review: If you have a good surround sound system in your home, this has killer sound. As a movie, it is banal, boring and plain silly.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great movie! Intense action and driving stunts.
Review: This movie has a lot of action and mystery. Great established characters and each time you watch it you find something new about it. The Directors commentary feature of the DVD is awesome to learn how they did the stunts with the actual actors in the cars. Its a must have DVD.
