Summary: Wonderful special effects.
Review: Dantes Peak is a well told story with good characters and outstanding special effects. The only problem is one ridiculous scene where they drive a car over lava(the tires would have burst in the first second).A directors cut should remove this absurd scene and you would have a perfect action flick.

Summary: Are you serious?
Review: Reading through the reviews of this film I can't help noticing that there are two distinct categories of reviewers - those who thought this film was a special effects blockbuster with great acting and others who thought it was terribly acted with duff effects. I seem to be caught between two stools because it's both these things - TERRIBLE acting from the human characters - how does Pierce Brosnan get employment? GREAT acting from the dog. TERRIBLE effects - just wait until you see the damn bursting - GREAT special effects - the town being blown away - all this combined with the most ridiculous plot imaginable.

Immensely enjoyable even though I didn't know whether to laugh out loud at the film's most sensitive moments... I could equally have given this film 5 stars although it depends on whether you've got a sense of humour. Sometimes the 1 star films are the best.

Summary: somewhat predictable film,
Review: This is a somewhat predictable movie, geologist tries to warn town of inpending Mount St Helens type volcano is going to erupt, but no one listens to him until the volcano blows it's stack. This has been done in other movies already. There is some romantic chemistry between Harry and Rachel (the charecters played by Pierce Bronson and Linda Hamilton), and many of the supporting cast members are likeable, that makes up for the predictable plot.

Summary: Fun Movie, incredible DTS sound.
Review: The formula for these summer actions movies seems to be: Take an improbable but predictable plot filled with stereotypical characters, then add a bunch of special effects. While Dante's Peak is guilty of following this formula, it's actually not a bad movie. Sure, there are a lot of things wrong with this movie but it is fun to watch. The chemistry between the Bronson and Hamilton characters is actually pretty good, although it's true that most of the other performances in this film are forgettable. The plot is predictable (you know the volcano is going to blow in the end) but there are enough twists and turns in the action to hold your interest.

Admit it -- we watch movies like this for the special effects, and this film doesn't let you down. This film combines miniatures, live action, and computer generated effects in a very believable way. The sound on the DTS DVD is incredible. It's like watching the film in a THX theater.

Sure, this is not Citizen Kane, but it's a fun way to spend a couple of hours.

Summary: Great Special Effects
Review: I enjoyed this movie a lot because being from Washington state the memories of Mt St Helens were refreshed in my mind. The special effects were outstanding and pretty believable.

Summary: Explosive
Review: What an amazing treat. The perfect mix of love and disaster to keep me interested throughout the entire movie. This takes the long done out genre of romantic comedies, and adds a new feature-an erupting volcano. Like the mix of baking soda and vinegar, it comes out to be quite a delicious cliche of character, love, death, and a whole lotta lava. Very good, especially all the miniatures. You also love the characters.

Summary: Three stars for being a parody--if it is
Review: Do you say you love disaster movies? This volcano flick takes all the cliches and throws them into a half-baked plot that will keep you laughing all the way, after the first victims are boiled alive in a suddenly-scalding pool. Everything in this potboiler is predictable but so far-fetched that it becomes almost the prototypical MST3K movie, except you can provide your own jeers. It's hard to believe they were serious as they filmed it--but if they were, I pity their maturity. I prefer to think that they were chuckling and trying to figure out what else to throw in to put it over the top.

Summary: good action movie
Review: at first i only saw the last half hour of the movie and thought it was excellent.then i finally saw the first half of the movie and i fell asleep! i usually just skip the first 45 minutes and get right to the part where they find the acid is comin out of their sinks n stuff.there is a couple interesting parts in the boring half of the movie so just watch the whole thing and live through it.

Summary: Completely Rediculous
Review: This movie was horrible! They drive a truck through lava, and even spin the wheels in it; when they escape it, the truck is fine and so are the tires. That is almost as good as the lake of acid. The acid is eating through the metal boat, but Pierce Brosnan can wrap his hand in a shirt and paddle, and his hand is perfectly fine. These are only part of the reason I found this movie one to make fun of. It was completely rediculous.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Good Action
Review: With great special effects and great acting, I think this is one of the best blockbusters. With plenty of suspense and action, I was on the edge of my seat. It deserves some attention. Check it out.
