Review: This is a movie I saw in metal class. I loved it because it had so much action. I could hardly take my eyes away from the screen. There was so much to see, and I thought the plot was good. It's one of the most action-packed movies ever!

Review: The DVD is packed with special features. If you already own Earthquake, the Poseidon Adventure and Airport 77 in DVD formats, your collection would not be complete without the Towering Inferno. A collector's item for disaster movie fans.

Summary: Immensely Enjoyable Disaster Epic
Review: I'm surprised at negative reviews of Towering Inferno. Combining superb special effects with a great cast and a strong script, the film succeeds very nicely in telling its story. If you've ever seen the TV show Thunderbirds, you'll enjoy this film, a Thunderbirds episode (City Of Fire) minus International Rescue.There are quite a few subplots - involving characters portrayed by Fred Astaire, Robert Wagner, and others - but the basic story flows very well. Paul Newman plays Doug Roberts, chief architect for Duncan Enterprises. William Holden is Jim "Dunk" Duncan, the conglomerate's president. Their biggest project is The Glass Tower, the world's tallest skyscrapper, scheduled for a glittering dedication ceremony. But things begin to go wrong when a backup power generator shorts out - unknown to anyone, the resulting surge blows a fuse terminal that sets material in a storage compartment alight. Roberts recognizes that Roger Simmons (played with smarmy perfection by Richard Chamberlin), DE's chief electrical engineer and Duncan's son-in-law, did not live up to safe building codes in installing the wiring, and he and Will Giddings (Norman Burton) must check the entire building to find further electrical shorts. But the dedication ceremony goes on as scheduled, and when every light in the building is turned on, it helps spread the fire, until Giddings himself is hit full force by the blaze. Enter fire battalion chief Mike O'Halloran (Steve McQueen) and his department. Though he clashes with Roberts the two form a strong team, but the fire erupts in floor after floor (beautifully done effects work by L.B. Abbott) until most of the building is aflame. And 300 people are trapped in the Promenade Room on the top floor. The film presently enjoys some notoriety because of O.J. Simpson's role as chief of security - in one presently-mocked scene he finds a cat in a room of the burning building and gets it to safety. The scene itself is good, and leads to a very chilling final scene when the fire is finally vanquished. Stirling Silliphant's script weaves all of his characters through very well, for an enjoyable, classic action drama.

Summary: Amazing!!! So Realistic!!!
Review: I'm usually not an action movie type of person but I found this one excellent. The chosen cast is all tops, they make it all seem so real. You feel like you are there with the effects and acting. It is truly a must see. I have seen it at least 5 times and each time I find it more amazing.

Summary: ANOTHER IRWIN ALLEN ACTION DISASTER FLICK
Review: The Towering Inferno is still considered as a great disaster classic in our days. This film was a big hit when first released in 1975 with pleasing results of special and visual effects. This story line is straight forward about a tall building on fire with a party of special guests and hundreds of people. It's a easy to understand movie but has it's boring moments and who really cares. The movie still packs a wallop with it's hi-fi stereo sound and THX remastering. The colour is fantastic and looks like that if it was made yesterday. The film score by John Williams is perfect and dramatic, it's relates to the film very well. The actors are all top line cast and they all keep this movie moving wth interest. Shown in the Widescreen format this is a disaster movie well worth keeping in your video library. Excellent remastering from Fox Video who have done a wonderful job. The laserdisc version is the best I have seen so far and it will be interesting to see what the DVD release will have installed for us.

Summary: A fun and exciting diversion film
Review: Well sometimes you just have to find humor even in a serious movie, and the Towering Inferno let's you do that. The first time you see it you'll be struck by the engaging visual effects and complex, albeit cheezy, storyline. Check it out a second or third time for laughs and you'll enjoy it in a completely different way, such as cheering on O.J. Simpson as a cat saviour or becoming mystified as the fire seems to jump 30 floors for no reason at all. A dramatic winner and a comedic classic.

Summary: A REALLY BAD DISISASTER FILM
Review: I found THE TOWERING INFERNO to be one of the worst movies I've ever seen and here's why. The acting by the cast seems too amateurish I mean PAUL NEWEMAN, FRED ASTIRE and STEVE MCQUEEN are top-notch actors and they act like they never acted before in film or on the stage. The effects in this movie leave something to be desired as well the fire sequences seem too overplayed. I kinda got the feeling that the director just concentrated on effects instead of a good storyline like he or she should have. This movie THE TOWERING INFERNO proves that special effects without a good story are pretty boring. I

Summary: Wonderful First class!!
Review: The first VHS movie I ever watched. Long time Paul Newman fan and watching him in this is the best work he would have ever done. (besides SlapShot maybe) Steve McQueen is amazing as well as the full line of the outstanding cast. Story line is second to none. I just hope I can find it on LaserDisc now.

Review: Somebody once asked James Garner's character on "The Rockford Files" TV show if there was nothing he wouldn't do for money. He wouldn't kill for it and he wouldn't marry for it, he said, other than that he was pretty much open to suggestions. Paul Newman and Steve McQueen must have been open to suggestions when they ok'd this turkey, and I wish they had said no. The world's tallest skyscraper is burning due to shoddy construction work, and architect Newman and fireman McQueen would like to put it out before the entire cast is incinerated. On top of the building are a million gallons of water in reserve Newman forgot about in all the excitement. Why this 2500 ton weight hasn't gone crashing into the basement we are not informed but the daring duo manage to blow up the tanks and there's your happy ending. O J Simpson rescues a cat and Fred Astaire, after a lifetime of giving the American movies some of their greatest moments, was awarded an Oscar for enduring this production.

Summary: One Of The Top Disaster Movies Of The 1970s
Review: It was nice to see Steve McQueen again after all these years. The movie has special effects based upon the capabilities that existed 30 years ago before the computer age. It also has some of the movie stars of the period. The movie at over 2 1/2 hours was a large undertaking that was possible by the joining together of two Hollywood Studios.
