Summary: I was won over.
Review: I went to see "The Perfect Storm" with low expectations. I had read the reviews about special effects running roughshod over character and plot development. I also had misgivings about George Clooney, a likeable but not particularly skilled actor, being the star. And I knew how the story would end. Yet, I saw it anyway mainly because I found its story compelling: nature reminds mankind, despite all of our technological advances, that we are still at her mercy.

Yes, I found the characters and plot to be formulaic. Yes, some of the dialogue and performances were atrociously melodramatic. Yet midway through the movie I got caught up in the story and the characters. Despite the cliches, I found myself caring about them. I knew eventually the fate of these men was going to be tragic, but I still found myself cheering for their every little victory which kept disaster at bay for even just a short while. Characters I can relate to and a story that gets my blood pumping is all I ask for in a summer blockbuster and "The Perfect Storm" delivers. A terrific, bittersweet, old fashioned story of ordinary men fighting against overwhelming odds. Great stuff!

Summary: A Classic Epic Film for all Times
Review: Perfect Storm is the classic film as it dealt with happiness, pain and love and hope. It is a story about a fishing crew going out for the big catch but they ran into Mother Nature who says NO. It shows man's struggle to fight for survival and also how people can come together as one. A definite must buy for all.

Summary: Peterson returns to the sea in "The Perfect Storm"
Review: Wolfgang Peterson has finally returned to his roots, and the results are breathtaking. After his breakthrough war drama "Das Boat", he ventured into American Mainstream filmmaking with "In the Line of Fire" and "Outbreak", both entertaining summer films with little substance. "The Perfect Storm" starts slowly, but lets loose with gail-force action and a flawless third act. Clooney and Whalberg team up again as ensemble leads, and carry the film just long enough to let the real star out of hiding... the storm. A remarkable performance was also turned in by John C. Riley, who remains one of the most underrated actors in the business. Exciting, riveting, and overwhelmingly emotional, "The Perfect Storm" will leave you breathless. The only weak side of the film is the presence of a nearly skeletal Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, who harps her lines with the same forced concern she displayed in "The Abyss". This aside, the film is bound to entertain and move the viewer. Sit back and be amazed. I was. And bring some tissues.

Summary: perfection with enjoyable detail
Review: The movie starts off just as the book did with a lot of detail about fishing and the life of a fisherman. This detail may be boring to people not interested in fishing, but is very fascinating to fishing fanatics, as it is fairly accurate. the storm picks up after a long wait and is all it is made up to be, the boat being tossed around and the coast guard rescue is truly amazing. I definately think that this is a must see.

Summary: Bad, bad, movie! Please save your time and money.
Review: IMHO: Character development was bad. Dialog was lame. Wallberg - "She's a great boat," Clooney - "With a great crew", other actor, "with a great cap'n!" should warn you enough to steer very clear of this terrible movie like they should have stayed away for that Perfect Storm. What was the deal with that meterologist? What was the deal with a hook in the hand dragging a 250 lb man through the air and then the water? How could the guy swimming after him look like he had a motor shooting him through such trecherous seas? The questions go on and on leaving me only with the question, why did I go see this movie.

Summary: perfect storm
Review: Condidering this movie is based on a true store I thought it was great. It stuck pretty well to the book although I felt that half the book was cut which I'm sure was a time problem. When you think of the forces of nature that happened with those three storms I think they did a great job with this movie.

Summary: This does for waves, what Twister did for tornadoes....
Review: Twister, which starred Helen Hunt, was all about the tornadoes, not the story. The Perfect Storm, along the same lines, is all about the waves. The only difference is this is based, loosely, on the true-to life book with the same name. The waves were very convincing (I was truly amazed by the effects) , unfortunately, like most special effects movies, lacks a little thing called plot. The characters were not memorable and the acting was only above par for this type of movie. The director, Wolfgang Petersen, is a very capable director of action films (that was proven by Air Force One and Das Boot), but this movie was doomed from the start for it's casting of Mark Wahlberg. George Clooney and Diane Lane are decent actors but being teamed up with Wahlberg made them less effective as an actor. The movie's biggest star are definitely the waves. GRADE: C-

Summary: Diane Lane Does Great Work
Review: The movie is only so-so in the non-storm scenes, flabbergasting during the storm. But the real star of the show here is Diane Lane, who gives an absolutely endearing performance as the girlfriend of one of the fishermen. I used to think she was kind of a brat as an performer, but she displays great maturity and depth in this role. Give this woman some recognition. She's grown into a fine actress.

Summary: A Great Summer Film
Review: The Perfect Storm is an excellant motion picture. Coming from award winning director Wolfgang Petersen, who knows a thing or two about both the sea (Das Boot) and action (Airforce One)he delivers an excellant film. The story revolves around swoardfish captain Billy Tye (George Clooney) and the rest of his crew. (notabley John C. Reily and Mark Wahlberg) The film is VERY loosely based on the novel by Sebastian Junger. The movie delves into the sacrifices fisherman have to make to bring home the big catch, and the things they have to leave behind to get it. George Clooney and the rest of the cast are played to perfection. I couldn't think of a greater ensamble to play the roles. The speacial effects are also out of this world, made by Industrial Light and Magic. (ie Star Wars and The Mummy) Though there is a lack of major charcter development, due to the fact that the storm is the big draw to this film, audiences would leave dissapointed if they had spent 2 hours developing these charcters, and 15 minutes of the storm. Thats my only complaint with the film. Wolfgang follows the facts of what happened to these men in 1991, and is the perfect director for the film. The musical score, though sappy, is also good, done by Titanic famous James Horner. For a fun ride and good story, check out this movie.

Summary: Kind of like Titanic but even better!
Review: I thought this movie was really good but it was more like Titanic in a way. The music is composed by James Horner, it's a true story, and it talks about surviving in the ocean. Well, if you hadn't seen this movie yet go see it before it hits on video. I hope it will come out on DVD because I am going to add it to my DVD collection. It better not be in widescreen because I hate that. It will also be neat if the DVD will include extra features like behind the scenes, theatrical trailer, and maybe some deleted scenes. I hadn't read the book to this movie but I heard it was good. Go see this movie it is ten times better than Titanic. This movie should win an oscar for best picture and best actor. I would recommened this movie to anyone!
