Rating: Summary: DVD makes me appreciate this movie even more! Review: The movie itself tells the story of the Andrea Gail, a swordfish boat, and her crew. In the fall of 1991 three storm fronts collided off the east coast producing one of the rarest, and largest storms in recorded history. Unfortunatly the ship got caught in the middle of this. This kind of a story, makes for an excellent movie. I saw the film a couple of times, but didn't really appreciate what went into making it. This DVD has a few supplimental features that get into this. I was amazed to see the huge sets that were built. Also, some of the effects shots that I thought were all real water, some turned out be be done by ILM, so they definetly fooled me. Besides the making of addons there are three separate commentary tracks which you can listen to which also give some more insight into the movie. Surprisingly, this is one of the cheapest dvd's I have purchased which surprises me cause it does have quite a few addons. This would be a great addition to anyones dvd library.
Rating: Summary: B+ for Effort Review: Wolfgang Petersen tries to get a handle on a difficult book to bring to film. On one hand it is a very personal story for the families of those who perished but he needs to provide pace and dimension to satisfy an audience in two hours. The special effects are indeed awesome, making up for in excitement what is a contrived script that falls flat from the start. Its arguable whether the film adds any insight or depth into this story or the men aboard the Andrea Gail - questioning why this movie had to be made at all since these events are so fresh to those whose lives were effected.
Rating: Summary: No real Content and Casting wrong Review: Do the words, Predictable, and overacting ring a bell?...This movie was terrible. George Clooney is still trying to be a serious actor but can't shake off the same predictable acting he used effectively in ER, but gets annyoing in this movie. He is not even believable as a ship captain.....This Movie made money the same reason, Jurrasic Park's the Lost World and Independence day etc made theirs, for Special effects. Great special effects in the storm sequences, but everything is predictable and the director tried to bring it all together in the end which was even dragged out further. My word of Advice: Dont buy this piece of garbage or rent it. This was a waste of my time....
Rating: Summary: Exactly like "The Matrix"!! Review: Did you think "The Matrix" was a good movie on DVD, well Warner Bros. has done another great DVD masterpiece. The Perfect Storm has most of what is on "The Matrix", but more. With three exceptionally great Commentaries--Wolfgang Peterson, Sebastian Junger, and crew--that explain very well in detail how the movie was set up and the book behind the movie. If you have Dolby Digital 5.1 sound you wouldn't want to miss this either. You can actually feel the waves come crashing down on the boat and the thunder and lighting. Forget the theatre, you feel like it's real life. Well, I'm not going to explain much more, I'll let you experience it yourself! Have fun and Enjoy!

Rating: Summary: Perfectly depressing Review: The really captivating thing about this movie is not so much the storm, but the fact that this was based on a true story. You keep reminding yourself of that when you watch and that draws you in. How terrifying for those men - to be on that small boat in a hurricane. The characters are well developed in the early part of the movie and you have a ton of compassion for them. The effects are amazing as well. You start to feel rocked by the waves after awhile - it's that powerful.
Rating: Summary: Not Very Good... Review: After all the hype-the action scenes in the film advertisements etc., I expected an exciting adventure. What I got instead was about an hour and a half of predictable dialogue (most of which I could barely understand because of the poor quality of sound in the movie). In the last thirty minutes I kept waiting for something to happen that would prove this to be a "thriller","nailbiter", or an "edge of your seat" adventure. Soon I found myself yawning and looking at my watch wondering when the thing would be over. I can't say the acting was poor, it was fair. Certainly the special effects were good, but it just never seemed to grab me in one way or another and certainly didn't live up to the huge hype it had been given. All in all there are better ways to fill two hours of your time.
Rating: Summary: The Perfect Bore Review: There was so much buildup of the characters in the beginning of the movie to the point I could had went to sleep. I understand the reasoning was to give you an appreciation of each character for the ending of the movie. But it was nothing really interesting. After the long and boring wait for the storm, it was over with in minutes. This movie had great storm effects that can be only be appreciated on a big screen. This is a movie that you would only watch once. George Clooney, being the star, just does not give that great of a performance.
Rating: Summary: Good movie, great special effects Review: I watched this movie and really enjoyed it. The special effects were the BEST!!!!!!! The story itself was interesting and all the characters were good. I did not like the end too much, but the movie itself was worth watching.
Rating: Summary: Big Wave/Small Movie Review: I knew this movie was bad when halfway through watching it my wife (who loves ANYTHING about fishing and the sea) turned to me and said "This has got to be one of the worst movies I've seen in years." It certainly should win some kind of award for worst dialoge and best over-acting.
