Rating: Summary: A Must-have Movie! Review: This movie is thought-provoking, realistic, and moving. One attack from some people is that it is not great in actions or super effects. Well, they are correct, because this movie was not made to be an action movie itself. Rather, it presents a realistic situation which people on the earth have to face in the future sooner or later, and it describes the different reactions from different people. The movie did a great job in making people think about some profound questions, which people often ignore in their daily lives. It also touched my heart by depicting the reconcilliation between the father and daughter, and the love in other people's hearts even in the doom's day.
Rating: Summary: Realistic? Oh Please! Review: Okay, here's a movie that some people praised and had the tenacity to call realistic. First off, you take a black president (lovely thought, but since we're on the subject of REALISM - here goes...), who shows off a tatoo sprawled on his forearm, on national television - then you take the NASA control center, with such loyal, dedicated employees who find it in their hearts to continue working away, seconds before the destruction of mankind, only to receive a distress call from a group of misfit cosmonauts, who take a nuclear-centric field trip on a huge earthbound asteroid. Okay... the asteroid part is the point of the movie, but still. This incontrovertibly demonstrates the pinnacle of realism itself! This movie has no direction and is littered with unnecessary sub-plots, many which never even come into fruition. It's just depressing to see such great actors like Morgan Freeman, Robert Duvall and Maximillian Schell stoop to accepting roles in a movie which has no business even being released. I hate writing bad reviews, but the only "Deep Impact" I experienced was the 7 dollars I paid to see it and the two precious hours of my time, wasted.
Rating: Summary: Better than Armageddon Review: Actually, I haven't ever seen Armageddon. I basically refuse to because I'm sick of the "look how awesome we are" blockbuster movies. (Independence Day is one of my least favorite movies.) Deep Impact is a true social commentary and one shouldn't help but be touched by it. More of a survey of human reactions to a possible end of the world, it makes you think what you would do if you were faced with the same terminal situation. Don't expect super-action, expect some real heart and soul. Finally.
Rating: Summary: Deep Impact = Realism Aramagedon = Special effects Review: If you like drama and realism, then Deep Impact is the film to watch. If you like special effects and action then Armagedon is the clear choice. I think neither film really hits the mark. If only the strengths of both films could be combined.
Rating: Summary: An overrated, pathetic excuse of a movie! Review: Deep Impact is hypothetically a good movie, that is, without the HYPE, it's simply PATHETIC! The first 45 minutes of the movie had such a feeble plot, with ten incongruous events in progress, which never did converge into a cohesive story! I initially had no idea what this film was trying to prove... whether it was trying to show a realistic reaction of our planet to an imminant catastrophe or some message of hope, courage, love and compassion overcoming the perils of disaster and tragedy! Then I began to understand:the real message is that Hollywood can release absolute drivel like this, and get critical acclaim, simply for its political and morally righteous content. Not even the superior acting talents of Morgan Freeman nor Robert Duvall could rescue this ill-plotted, mileu of cliches, disguised as a movie. Tea Leoni's astonishingly bad acting coupled with her annoying, monotonous voice proves yet again that Hollywood is largely image based. Leoni's smaller role in Bad Boys suited her better where her minimal vocal efforts were overshadowed by real actors(Lawrence and Smith), leaving her pretty eyes to fill the void where needed! And for Morgan Freeman, a president with no dress sense, who exposed a tatoo during a mass address eliminated the last shred of realism that could have been a saving grace to this already poor film. This movie is absolute garbage, but sadly there will always be a market for it. Not even worth sitting through for the 20 seconds of the over hyped special effects towards the end, which weren't even that impressive! Still traumatized that I actually spent money and time for this film, I think I've made my point! Happy Viewing!
Rating: Summary: Spectacular, took my breath away. A MUST SEE!!!!!! Review: This movie is spectacular. The special affects are dazzaling. But this movie is more than that. It has many sub-plots that are dramatic. I know that this is great movie because it is the only one that has been able to make me cry. For teens to love one another that much is mind-boggling. The plot with Tea Leoni and her parents is one that any child could appreciate. All the actors give a stellar porformance. Thiss movie is dramatic, heart-wrenching, realistic, and just all around marvelous. Anyone who has ever loved movies should see this one. This movie set a standard that Hollywood needs to live up to.
Rating: Summary: Only one thing could have saved this movie... Review: If the larger rock had the decency to crash down and finish the film. The acting was terrible, even Morgan Freeman couldn't save it. Mainly because he is givin 3 minutes of real screen time, and one of the worst monologues in history.
Rating: Summary: 2 minutes of good spec effects at the end. The rest-garbage Review: Most of the actors don't even attempt to play. Who do, can't cope with the crazy patchwork of plots with no beginning and no end. Cheap catches like-- hey, kid, you gotta go thru the end of the world to get the girl you like or to ride that kewl bike. Tearjerking spree at the end where the spouses don't look like they are someone to each other. Annoying stupid stamps everywhere -- here the old dad marries a bimbo and here she leaves him... "Do this church things for me, willya?" What church thing, singing, charity, what? The movie authors don't give a damn. Why should I?
Rating: Summary: GOOD Review: GOOD DISASTER MOVIE. THE ONLY THING IS THEY HAD A YEAR NOTICE.THEY WERE IN SPACE AWILE. THEY COULD HAVE GONE BACK TO TRY DRILLING MORE AND NUKE IT AGAIN.MAYBE SECOND WOULD HAVE BEEN A CHARM. AT LEAST IN ARMAGEDDON, THEY GET THE JOB DONE RIGHT WITH OUT KILLING THEMSELVES.
Rating: Summary: TERRRRRRRRIFIC!!!!!!!!! Review: With Robert Duvall, Laura Innes, Tea Leoni, Elijah Wood, Leelee Sobieski, & Ron Eldard, this movie comes with the acting weight to back up a good script. Unlike "Armageddon", it takes the ending of the world seriously, though not too seriously. It lacks "Armageddon"s predictable jokes and completely unrealistic storyline. The two teenagers are superb. The only letdown? Surprisingly: Morgan Freeman, whose lines seemed absolutely absurd. Fortunately, his presence is minimal.
