Summary: Unquestionably the Number One Film of its Time!!
Review: When Eskimo historians, in the distant future, write volumes about the collapse of our civilization they'll cite Janet Jackson's public display of her [mammary glands], Bill Clinton's public "display" of his, uh, personal problems, and this movie as cultural signposts to be read, essentially, as "Last Chance for Gas! Next Stop, Five-Hundred Years." A nightmarish tragedy--itself a direct manifestation of a world (ours) that was beginning to lose its grip and would soon make the first of several horrific mass-suicide attempts--is dumbed-down to maudlin romance, soft porn, and glitzy effects and nobody so much as snarls. In fact everyone thinks it's as dandy as chariot races. Let's put it this way: just how would the citizenry react if they found out someone was going to make a similar schmaltzy melodrama based around the space shuttle disasters...or 9-11? (What am I saying? There'd be a run on the production company's stock!) At least the antique "A Night to Remember" has some dignity and some good acting--largely by old-timers sobered by real memories of the event in contrast to a bunch of pretty kittens who, at the time of this film's creation, probably couldn't have managed a sincere or informed paragraph about anything more tragic than the death of Kurt Cobain. I give this double fudge sundae five stars because I don't want to be tossed to lions and I give it a gratuitous bad review because I want to ensure my place in Heaven.

Summary: Leave out the nudity and profanity!
Review: Titanic is a great story made into a poor movie because of nudity and pervasive profanity. The tragic story of the sinking of the Titanic is told in this movie through the memory of an elderly lady named Rose who, when she was seventeen, was a passenger on Titanic. Rose was a first class passenger who met Jack, an artist and a steerage class passenger. Rose and Jack fell in love. Up to that point in the movie, my biggest complaint was profanity, including repeated taking of the Lord's name in vain. However, then Rose asks Jack to draw her picture while she wears nothing more than a 52 carat diamond broach. It is this drawing that is found in modern times on the sunken Titanic and is seen as a clue to treasure hunters who are looking for the 52 carat diamond. The reason I give the movie only two stars is that this drawing and the search for the diamond is nothing more than a device used to show Kate Winslet, the actress who plays Rose, in the nude. I do not understand why the producers and director of Titanic didn't understand that they hurt their movie by employing this silly device as an excuse to show Kate's naked body to eager teenage boys. The love story was a good way to personalize the tragedy of the Titanic and the special effects were really spectacular. Hollywood should learn when they trash an otherwise good movie with nudity and profanity that their work suffers. This movie could have been great, instead it is just another movie which caters to prurient interests.

Summary: Good Movie, Bad DVD
Review: TITANIC is the highest grossing movie the box-office has ever seen. Not only that but it won 11 Oscars including Best Picture. It seems that by the commercial success of the movie people

TITANIC's love story stands out merely for how classic it is. Billy Zane is Cal Hockley the rich man who is engraged to Rose (Kate Winslet). Cal is rich and successful and Rose's mother constantly pushes rose into that direction. Why not, he's rich? But it seems Cal plays the "Evil" Boyfriend in this movie who only wants Rose for her looks.

Jack, however, (Leonardo DiCaprio) plays the poor boy who has nothing to offer except his love but sees something more than just her looks. He sees something more in her than Cal does. Classic Love Story. If you don't like love stories (or chick flicks) you should probably stay away from this movie.

But I liked the movie, but why coudln't the DVD be any good? TITANIC is the most successful movie of all time (by today's standards)! Whether you like the movie or not, you have to admit that the DVD could've been better.

For a movie with so much commercial success the DVD certainly doesn't show it. It's one disc and includes the following features:

Theatrical Trailer and subtitles in English, Spanish and French. Digitally remastered sound and picture but that's it! There's no commentary, deleted scenes, making of the movie or anything like that.

Hopefully to those who loved the movie a better DVD will come out. One with some deleted scenes, commentary from James Cameron and the cast. Perhaps include the Celine Dion Music Video "My Heart Will Go On." With the direction DVDs are going this is an insult.

If you really want this movie then I suggest you save yourself the trouble and grab the VHS version. About the only good thing about the DVD is if you're lazy you don't have to stop the movie to insert the second part. Other than that I don't recommend the DVD. Instead grab the VHS version.

Summary: Box Office Hit
Review: Of course you're going to achieve big box office bucks when you put Leonardo DiCaprio in a movie! He is of course one of Hollywood's biggest heartthrobs, and at his peak, ANY girl would go see ANYTHING he made even the littlest appearance in. That is obviously the reason the creators of the movie picked DiCaprio for the role, so billions of girls went, enjoyed the love story, but hated it when the boat sank. This movie did a pretty good attempt at making a historical event enjoyable for young viewers, and it was a creative idea for simple minds.

Summary: What a waste of money
Review: This movie is horrible. That's right, horrible. ... The movie hardly describes the event correctly, and it does not honor the hundreds who died that night. All it focuses on is sexual relationships between a criminal and a woman who would be a criminal if it weren't for the fact she came from an upper-class family. And let's not forget the adultery it potrays. There's only tradgedy, and it's not the one it should be: crimal dies, adulterer cries. Horrible movie. What a waste of money.

Summary: Titanic
Review: I love this movie. The special effects are stunning and the acting is awsome (espically Kate Winslet, Katy Bates, and Billy Zane). This movie will be forever a classic. I hope that a special edition DVD comes out because the DVD that is out has no special features! Highly Reccommended...

Summary: Kind of silly
Review: This is one of those movies where the first time you see it you fall in love and you think it's great, but the second time you think, "It's not really that great." The special effects and camera angles and everything was great in making it look real. But the Jack and Rose thing had some silly points. For one thing, at the end, why couldn't she move over and let him on. She had to know he would die. And when Rose jumped out of the lifeboat because she couldn't go without Jack, I really don't think they would've spent that much time making out, and more time thinking of what to do. Awards for special effects and directing, it definently deserved that, but best picture, not so sure.

Summary: 11?? are you kidding me????
Review: This movie sucks so bad! This is a chick-flick about 2 bad actors who have sex every 2 seconds on the Titanic. The best part is when the guy falls off the side and hit his head on the propeller! it was hilerious! How did these awful piece of crap win 11??? Saving Private Ryan deserved 11. The Shawshank Redemption deserved 11, but did they win them? NOOOOO!! Shawshank didn't even win 1!!!! and private ryan didn't even win best picture, when it is possibly THE most realistic movie, if not time period movie ever made! Titanic sucks, unless yer looking for people having sex on the Titanic.

Summary: This year's Oscars was done right this time.
Review: Ok, great special effects, terrible doom for most of the crew and passengers in a Terminator fashion. Cameron worked so hard to show us he had a humanistic and artistic side. (he did all the drawing designs for Terminator, before Termintaor he was a sfx artist; it fits). However, like T2 and even T1 and Aliens, the sentimental and romantic bits come out too forced. It reminds me of Ang Lee who is good at making chick flicks but giving us too much soap opera in the Hulk. While Cameron is good at the action but tries to prove mostly unconvincingly and sometimes annoyingly
that he can direct good characterization. As others have said, the movie I really enjoyed started when the Titanic hit the iceberg. The first part is an awful teenybopper soap with atrocious dialog , anachronisms and exaggerations of the actual event mainly to serve Leo's idol image, while the action part is a decent disaster film with Cameron's sfx and scenes of mass mayhem, with brilliance approaching The Poseidon Adventure. Though as usual in Cameron films, the heroes have seemingly more common sense and superhero bravery while the rest of the cast are sterotypical fools or cowards just like the characters in Aliens.
