Summary: believe the hype!!
Review: Titanic is by far one of the best made movies of the past century. James Cameron has shown us that he can direct something other than sci-fi. Cameron does an outstanding job- DiCaprio and Winslet are very believable and the special effects are convincing. For those who complain of the love story-Titanic is available on VHS- just watch the second tape!!

Summary: Uh... Did I miss something?
Review: Anyone else think this movie was horrible? I was falling asleep during the middle of it. Jack and Rose's romance was very unrealistic even for a holly wood movie! They just met! They can't be in love! To the fact that many parts were out of time sequence. No one who WASN'T married made out in the 1910's. If Cameron wanted to make a romance between two oversexed teens, he should have made up his own boat. I'll admit some parts were good. But most just put me to sleep. There are better films about the titanic.

Summary: Heaven for Young Girls.
Review: If you are a young women and think that Leonardo is sexy, you will probably love this film. It has a nice touch of romance and tragedy aboard the doomed ocean liner. For the rest of us, I just don't understand why this film was such a big deal.

The story follows a predictable line. A rich young women,"Rose" unhappy with her fiance, finds a young artist rogue who saves her life. Invited to a ball afterwards, he is treated badly by snobby rich people. She, however, is intriqued. She mets with him later on. She falls in love. After the Titantic sinks, she remembers him forever.

I liked the shot of the boat going down and some of the other special effects found in this movie. Of course, when it came out, the music was great and later, it was an award winner. Now, when you see the film, you probably have heard this music too many times. But, it is a great song and it fits in nicely with the story.

So, overall, I can appreciate the effort that went into making this film. The director controlled carefully all aspects of his creation, and its shows. But while I can appreciate his work, it doesn't meant that I necessarily think it is very good. Titanic is an okay film, that is all.

Summary: Could Have Had More Features
Review: A touching movie, despite the less-than-believable love story. The DVD recaptures the images and sounds of the movie faithfully. But I would have liked to see more bonus features on the disc, such as cast interviews, deleted scenes, etc. For a movie with such incredible success, its DVD version was relatively no-frills, compared to other blockbusters. Nevertheless, this is a title worth owning.

Summary: Great Moviemaking
Review: I am not one to cry at movies....I never do. But at the end of this one I could not help myslef and a few tears rolled down my cheeks. I realize that some people critique this movie for creating a fictional couple and focusing the movie on them, but in my view, this is what makes the movie so great. I have always heard about Titanic and how many people died and what could have been done differently to save hundreds of lives, but I never actually got it. After watching this movie I was able to realize that every single individual on that ship had a story behind them and that every single one of them lost something or someone. The fact that I could also relate to the story of the fictional couple only made the movie doubly as good, or in this case, dobly as sad. This is an epic movie which people will enjoy for decades to come, just like Gone with the Wind.

Summary: Overrated
Review: This is one of the most overrated movies of all time. The plot goes at a snail's pace, filled with little romantic quips and cliches. The first two hours of the movie are completely unnecessary. By the time anything exciting happens, you don't care. Titanic was a good idea, but failed in it's execution. Just another Hollywood hype.

Summary: God of all movies
Review: I think all the people bashing this movie are simply reacting to all the hype. Yes, hype can be a bad thing for a movie. It can raise expectations to ridiculous levels. Fact is, this is the greatest movie ever made. It can't be denied. If it wasn't, it wouldn't have made over 2 billion dollars world wide. Nobody can argue that the hype made the movie that much money. That is BS. Other movies were hyped much more, and didn't make anywhere near that much. In fact, most "successful" movies gross around 200 million, this grossed 10 times that amount! People around the world were captivated by it. People in Europe and in Japan waited hours in line to see it! A bad movie, even an average movie, does not make this happen! Everyone who hates Titanic and gives it 1 star simply is doing so because they don't want to be "jumping the bandwagon". Well let me tell you, I am NOT the type of person who goes with the crowd. Many successful movies like "Independence Day" and "Forrest Gump" I thought were crap. I went into Titanic expecting to see something "decent". I left the theater quite literally sweating in my clothes, amazed that a movie, ANY movie, could make me feel the way Titanic did. I was quite literally disturbed for weeks. Nevermind the acting and the dialogue and the SFX. James Cameron has done something incredible. He has gone far BEYOND the conventions of story-telling to create a piece of art, a universal expression of human nature. It has nothing to do with the ship, or the love story, or the history. Titanic is about life and death itself and all its complexity. Notice how as the ship is sinking, how some people react with dignity and courage, some helping people get into the boats, sacrificing themselves, while others cheat and lie and push to save their own hides. Notice how the people cling to the priest reading the Bible as if he could save them. Notice how death comes to everybody in a big, black, silent ocean. It's awfully creepy and terrifying. And yet, through the story of love, people survive. And in death, Rose finds that the afterlife is a reflection of "this life". Titanic is a much deeper and complex tale then most viewers realize. Those who don't get it need to see it again and really THINK about it. Of course the music and the cinematography really serve to drive this home. Why did people round the world flock to see Titanic? Because Titanic is a microcosm, a "little Earth" expressing all our fears, hopes, dreams, reasserting what Shakespeare long argued in his sonnets, that LOVE CONQUERS DEATH.

Summary: I love this movie but not the DVD. Read on....
Review: Well, this is a great movie. Adding romance to this sinking catastrophe sure adds life to this movie. "You see people..."said Rose. YES! You really see people in this movie. The rich, the poor, kind hearted, the cruel, etc... While some of them didn't deserve their destiny, some nasty guys sure did. You need to see this movie to find out yourself.

Now for the ratings on this DVD production. The picture quality earns 4 stars while the sound effect steals away 5. But these are not my main concerns when rating DVDs. Seriously, when DVD's selling price hits across the $20 bench mark, I expects the DVD to complement to the movie itself. If there were "the makings" or some extras bundled, it would surely deserve the asking price. Without all those, this DVD should be selling for less.

Summary: SIMPLY THE BEST!
Review: I've read about 500 reviews on this site regarding TITANIC and I can't help but notice that when the review is negative, the writer comes off sounding very ignorant, almost stupid. The way they express themselves is almost sad. In one negative review, many of the words were misspelled. I wonder if there is a connection between intelligence and one's reaction to this film... Just something I noticed. Anyway, as for TITANIC. Without doubt or question, TITANIC is one of the most moving and emotionally satisfying movies I have ever seen. But then again, that's me. There's little point in recommending it, as I can't imagine there are many who have not already seen it and have their own opinions.

Summary: Two Mall Rats Flee a Sinking Script
Review: I agree the special effects, sets, costumes and soundtrack are impressive, but after those, what is left? For one, the dialogue is about as shallow as the Atlantic is deep. When Jack Dawson (DiCaprio) is first told the ship has struck an iceberg, all he can say is, 'Hey, that's not good....' Jack and Rose speak like two mall rats of the 1990s. What's worse, they have all the chemistry of oil and water. DiCaprio's character is so chipper he needs to be doused with cold water -- and is. Winslet seems to have been cast for her willingness to titter us with, shall I say, "nudal frontity." The other characters are cardboard stereotypes, with the only heartfelt performance turned in by Gloria Stuart as the elderly Rose. Director Cameron's titanic ego prevented him from editing this movie to a reasonable length. In short, Jack and Rose's romance just didn't seem authentic, so I couldn't help but think, "Will you just hurry up and drown?"
