Rating: Summary: Great car action Review: Great movie. Awesome cars and carchases, acting is not as bad as some people say. So, if you want to see some caraction this movie is a must for you. You won't be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: A total letdown. Review: After all the hype I heard about the original Gone in 60 Seconds and it's car chases, I just decided to buy it. Needless to say I was disappointed. The film is very poorly made. No plot, bad acting, and poor directing. The first half of the film moves along at a snails pace and finally when the car chase begins, the chase itself is actully dull. I would only recommend for die hard car chase fans.
Rating: Summary: One of the worst movies ever made Review: Awful movie. Horrendous. The 2000 remake of this movie is such an enormous improvement, I am willing to say it is the best remake ever made. It follows the basic concept but improves on it exponentially in execution.First of all, the acting is atrocious. It is home video caliber. If you think acting is easy and doesn't take much and isn't worth paying millions of dollars for, then watch this -- for the truth shall set you free. A horrible soundtrack if there ever was one. Goofy '70s rockish country-western blather. The title song (written for the film) deserves to be singled out as perhaps the worst song ever made for a movie. I haven't seen the new re-release version of this movie, but I hear the new version has a new soundtrack, and I'm sure it's an improvement. Even if it's a bad soundtrack it will be better, trust me on this one. The 40-minute car chase is cool, and done quite well for the time to be sure, but it gets old after a while. My advice: don't waste your time on this dumb, boring, and uninteresting piece of filth. If you still insist on watching it, get ready to utilize the Fast-Forward function on your VCR, because you will be needing that feature immensely, to skip right to the chase. If you liked the 2000 movie, don't be fooled by this. If you even disliked the 2000 version a little bit, run for the hills. And if you need a cure for insomina, then look no further, for the cure has been found.
Rating: Summary: A movie with a purpose...wrecking cars Review: I was expecting an amateurish, plotless film with no brain that was all about wrecking cars. Well, I was wrong. It's a slightly plotted, highly professional film with no brain that's all about wrecking cars. This movie is no classic, but it's definitely in a class by itself. It's not really that violent, but it's obvious Halicki lived for wrecking cars. The last forty minutes of this feature are all astounding car stunts and chase scenes. And I mean ASTOUNDING, the kind of thing we haven't seen in American action movies for a LOOOOOOONG time. I don't want to give anything away, but suffice to say it's some stunning stuff. Also to Halicki's credit, he isn't just mindlessly showing cool stunts whose results exist in a vacuum. You see the fire trucks, the cop cars, the ambulances, working to save people who got in accidents caused by Halicki's character and his wreckless driving. He's a lot more honest than a lot of American action producers, and it beats a little credit at the very end, saying "Kids, don't try this at home." Dodge Bruckheimer's crappy remake. This is the car crash movie to buy. I'll definitely have a copy in my library when I have the cash.
Rating: Summary: Legend has it... Review: ...that this movie's 40-minute car-chase finale, which wrecks something like 96 cars, was conceived, choreographed, and filmed before anyone thought of a plot for the rest of the movie. Whether or not this is true, the point should be obvious--the car chase outweighed any other reason to see the movie. That said, the car chase was one of the best ever captured on film. As other reviewers wrote here, a must for fans of old cars.
Rating: Summary: The best car chase movie ever Jerry,THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: I first saw this movie back in 94.It ruled! It's a shame Nic Cage and those guys used the same title for a completely different movie. This original, however,is action packed and funny. It reminds me of the Beastie Boys video Sabotage.Don't look for much of a story in this 74 version, but if you love the old cars, this is definately a fun way to spend 90 minutes.Look to the stoner "Billy" for comic relief.
Rating: Summary: A must see for ANY car guy or gal Review: The muscle car era isn't gone. It's caputured forever on film by H.B. Halicki and his crew. This is not a spoon-fed glossy holywood film. It's gritty and fast. It's about the cars. Forget the limited plot and stiff acting. That's not the point. If you want a "slick" production with subplots and great acting set in a backdrop of cars with dubbed sound (I didn't know that the Shelby GT's used Chrysler high tourqe starters; but I digress)see GI60S(2000)with Nick Cage. If you want to see real muscle cars in action in the wild, see this one. Listen close, turn up the subwoofer and you'll understand why hot-rodding a Honda in y2k doen't compare to a wound-up big block in 1974.
Rating: Summary: A must have for any collector Review: Not as flashy as the new version, but a must have for any collector. It was a landmark film for its time. And, it shows that dreams can come true. He wanted to make a movie and he did. The new gone in sixty seconds follows this original film plot in most aspects. This will help you appreciate the new one. A must buy.
Rating: Summary: Great DVD Review: I saw this movie when I was 12. Just saw it again. Excellent! And with the added features of the DVD, it made it even better. Eleanor rules!
Rating: Summary: one of the best chases ever Review: you dont see this movie for the plot or the acting(since both are pretty bad). you see it soley for the 40 minute car chase. it is the 8th wonder of the world how good ole eleanor(the stars chase car) held togethor through the filming. it is also great to see all the old cars in this film. i found myself on more than one occasion using the zoom on my dvd player to get a closer look at a car in some random parking lot. if you like the cars of the late 60's & early 70's you'll love this movie. i'd say this is a must see
