Rating: Summary: Gone in 60 seconds Review: I like this type of movie, because of the fantastic raw footage & it was nostalgic 70's stuff too! I appreciate that the movie was layed out in a documentry setting, Instead of a sugar coated "My car looks great at the end" type movie!
Rating: Summary: ??? Review: How can a movie with a 73 mustang be released in 1968 Carolyn?
Rating: Summary: A wonderful movie Review: I first saw this movie when it was released in '68. It was just an extra movie at a drive in and was not my choice when I was looking for a movie to see. I find car chases in movies pretty dull and really don't like them much. However, the chase scenes in this movie were terrific! I have talked about the stunts in this movie to other people for years and I have been looking for a copy for years. It has finally been released and I got one! It is so much better than the remake and for anyone expecting the remake to be as good, they will be very disappointed.
Rating: Summary: This is the only version you need of this movie Review: When I saw Gone in 60 secs with Nicholas Cage I'd never heard of the original movie from -74! So when I found out about the original, I ordered it right away, and boy was I surprised...the original was so much better that I can't explain it here! Like I always thought...the car chasers from the 70's are the best movies and todays movies just don't have the right stuff to make them justice!
Rating: Summary: YEEHAW Review: Hot damn! 47 minutes, 93 cars! Does it get much better than that?
Rating: Summary: One of the Best Chases Ever! Review: This, the original movie from the 1970s, was the first movie produced and written by stunt driver Halicki (who unfortunately was killed early on in making a sequel). It is a lot less flashy than the remake, but this gives the movie a far greater sense of realism. The first part of the movie is almost like a documentary and is basically a behind-the-scenes look at an auto theft ring and how it operates, drawing from Halicki's great knowledge of all things associated with cars. This first part of the movie is quite interesting and has some great moments of humour and a few minor car chases, but mainly serves to set up the second half. The basic plot is that the ring has a limited time to steal a large number of very specific high-priced cars. For a reason I won't spoil, the head of the ring gets upset with one of his best men and sets him up so that the police can ambush him on his last job. This leads to the exciting second part. The second part of the movie is one long, sustained car chase lasting about 40 minutes and is one of the best in movie history. Reportedly 93 cars got totalled during the filming of this sequence, and I believe it. It was all filmed on weekends without filming permits using a car collection Halicki built up partially from police auctions, including all the police cars that were used. Overall, not much of a plot, but it is a very humourous, exciting and educational movie filled with lots of great and/or funny 1970s cars and fashions.
Rating: Summary: A Good One for a Friday Night Review: If you were a fan The Rock, I highly recommend this movie to you. If you haven't seen The Rock, then you need to crawl out from the one you've been living under. With its high impact car chases and all-around excellent performances by its all-star cast, Gone In Sixty Seconds is a great movie on a night when you're in the mood to watch something with a little more "umph". It delivers with a familiar style and edge synonymous with the name "Jerry Bruckheimer". Although its plot is simplistic and highly predictable, it's always a pleasure to see Nicholas Cage in his element. Even if you aren't usually into movies that focus around "blowing stuff up" and that are clearly targeted to the usual crowd of adolescent males, this movie adds a balanced mix of comedy and action. While Gone In Sixty Seconds probably won't be granted Oscar nominations, it accomplishes something which is often lost in more serious films: It's entertaining.
Rating: Summary: AWESOME Review: I just bought the movie and the chase scene is incredible.
Rating: Summary: Outshines the remake by far Review: If you're looking for a scintillating plot and Oscar-nominee acting, you've got the wrong movie. If, however, you'd like to see one of the best chase scenes ever lensed, this is the place. When the remake came out, my memories of Halicki's original were faded with time, but I had high hopes. Frankly, the best part of the Cage remake is the opening credits/stopwatch effect. The movie never lives up to its promise, or the original. I was so disappointed, I sought out the original and found the 25th anniversary DVD, and I've got to say it's aged quite well. Sure, the first half drags on, (although it is funny in spots) but who cares? We want to see Eleanor FLY, baby! And we do. There are also lots of neat goodies on the DVD. If you have fond memories of this movie, buy it! You won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: The Original Muscle Car Chase Movie Review: H B Halicki was a genious. This movie has everything a car chase movie buff wants. Crashes, crashes and more crashes. the acting sucked, but you won't buy this movie for its acting. Who cares anyway. There are about 40 minutes worth of chase scenes in downtown LA plus a spectacular ending. It's too bad the HB died before finishing the sequel!
