Review: "Full Contact" ranks high on the list of classic Hong Kong "heroic bloodshed" action films. Grittier and more extreme than John Woo's films (more gore and maimings, and characters who are less noble), it's an entertaining ride, and a good showcase for the always-magnetic Chow Yun-Fat. Unfortunately, this DVD re-release has a serious problem -- the actual video print is a big improvement on the original Tai Seng release, but whole chunks of soundtrack seem to be missing from the Chinese audio track (strangely enough, they're present on the English audio track). If you don't mind watching your Hong Kong movies in English, this is a good buy, but if you're a purist, you're better off sticking with the original Tai Seng DVD for the complete Chinese audio track.

Review: Actors are very effective, impressive and elegant, views are egzotic and wonderfull. I wish I were there and a part of it. The clothing is very rich. I liked it very much. Especially the King is very impressive. Although he is a King, he is very succesful expressing his emotions in such a kind manner that you just feel it.

Summary: Excellent Chow Yun Fat vehicle
Review: After Tsui Hark and John Woo, Ringo Lam is probably one of the greatest HK directors. Some innovative POV shots make this a must see. Plot is predictable but it has some great lines.
If you like HK action, this is worth owning.

Review: As an older woman, I have to say this was a surprise. I was caught up in the atmosphere of these crooks and their lame brain schemes. Chow and his dancer girlfriend (Ann Bridgewater)in the shower was very erotic. When he gets involved with his stupid wimp friend (Anthoney Wong) and his scheme to do a robbery to pay off a debt, everything goes wrong. The craziest character in the film is the tough gal who is one of villian Simon Yams gang. Played by Bonnie Fu she is completely amoral as are all of the gang members. Just the dregs. Which makes Chows Jeff a criminal with a heart. When the double cross causes a young girl to be horribly burned in a fire, Jeff determines to not only avenge himself but get the money from the robbery for the girl so she can get medical help. Chow is always good, but this is one of his best. He is not his usual beautifully dressed self. Here he is tatooed and with a tough hair cut, clothes and his cycle and knife and attitude to spare. The music, the style, and the ending, all make a film to be savored by Chow fans.

Summary: media asia has a nasty habit of cutting up their releases
Review: As with the 18 minutes cut out of Bullet in The Head media asia vhs and dvd, Full Contact has some pretty cool violence cut out but thank god thats all they cut. We miss, a very long and unbearable scene involving a pocket knife and a dead man's eyes, exploding head, a couple of dead bodies are missing, some people are shot a few times instead of 7 and thats about it, a little bit of unimportant dialoge is missing too but your not missing much. This is a good buy, certainly way better than media asia's treatment with Bullet in The Head(18 minutes cut! ). And is it me or is the bad guy in this flick a little this way and a little that way? Horrible soundtrack, great acting from Chow, good Ringo Lam flick.

Review: Chow Yun Fat in a dramatic actioner?! Yes, that's right. When I saw this movie, prior to viewing several other of his movies, I had no idea what the story was about, or who was in it (besides Chow Yun Fat). I even thought it was directed by John Woo. About a quarter way through this movie, the story picked up great. The villain was worthy of being called "a villain", and the action was one of the best I've seen since The Killer. Ringo Lam did IMHO his best directing of an action movie with this one. If you like Hong Kong action movies, enjoy engrossing storylines, and anticipate a high quality ending, then buy this movie. It's worth the price! The story is about a man (Chow) who apparently gets "wiped out" by a crimelord. He leaves behind a good friend and his girlfriend. As he privately recuperates himself, he learns that through the years, his friend and his girlfriend have taken to each other. Not to mention, his nemesis is continuing with his onslaught in the community. As he regains himself to full health, he takes on all the baddies in classic Hong Kong style, and makes amends with his personal problems along the way. This movie may have a not-so-original plot, but when you watch it, you get drawn into the story and never for a moment think that it gets silly. The acting is great, and the action is plentiful.

Summary: Super Cool Chow Yun-Fat
Review: Here's a movie that's little heard of in HK film circles. Chow Yun-Fat is a bouncer at a bar, and when his pal gets in trouble with the mob, he steps in to lend a hand. Well from there the fights just keep on coming. The film includes tragedy, deception, and some of the better martial arts fighting I've seen outside of a Jet Li picture. I don't want to give away too much of the film, but I guarantee it'll keep you glued to the tube. This film features the classic bullets colliding in mid-air scene as well. Ringo Lam did an incredible job with this film, much better than with City on Fire in my opinion. It's a shame that it takes about six weeks for this one to ship, but the cost and wait are WELL worth it.
