Review: Chow Yun Fat at his best! As a killer with "eyes full of passion". The Killer is a great Hong Kong film, bursting with amazing gun fights, stunts and not to mention acting. John Woo also at his best as director. If you like action movies this is it, if you like Chow or Woo it's well worth the money. Plus this movie has one huge body count! "The killer, the cop and 10 thousand Bullets!

Summary: Chow's best movie
Review: The Killer is Chow Yun Fat at his best. He exhibits not only the sly and smooth qualities that have made him famous in Asia and now around the world (who else can kill two dozen people without breaking a sweat and chewing on a toothpick?), but also the sensitive side that women here in Asia go crazy about.This movie is also the original in terms of John Woo's trademark filming techniques (example: the slow-motion bullet shells flying out of the gun chambers) and confrontations (example: adversaries making small talk while pointing guns in each other's faces). Quentin Tarintino copied these techniques in his movies (as you all well know) and the same can be seen in Woo's later American films such as Hard Target (Van Damme) and Face Off (Travolta/Cage). If you watch the Killer after you've seen these movies, you'll understand. The ending is a bit too heartwrenching in that it is actually quite cheesy (like the Joy Luck Club). Chow asks his partner Lee to donate his eyes to his girlfriend (that he accidentally blinded) if he should get killed, then gets shot in the eyes, and right before he dies, he and his girlfriend try to find each other in the blind darkness, missing each other by inches. C'mon. But hey, we love this stuff in Asia. This is a must-own for anyone who is a Chow Yun Fat fan. Don't judge him by the Replacement Killers or the Corruptor (they did not do him justice). If you want true Chow, I also highly recommend A Better Tomorrow I & II, God of Gamblers I & II, Hard-Boiled and Full Contact.

Summary: A ballet disguised as a action film/ Absolutly breath-taking
Review: This film makes American action cinema look like a sick dog, dying on the side of a freeway.John Woo is the best action director working today. His dances of death are beautifully choreographed and peformed to get your adreniline pumping. A great story with human aspects that are never lost admist the barrage of bullets. This movie will blow you out of your seat and cause you to beg for more. Get Face/Off too, not nearly as good but the best American action film in 30 years.

Summary: An action film with a twist, that is:it has a touching story
Review: While many people sing praises for this film for being a wonder of direction and an action classic. The most important reason for my liking of this film is the touching and poingent story. The viewer sees a deep friendship, almost brotherly love, emerge between two sworn enemies, whom are both out for revenge. Of course, not to discount the miraculous direction. The mind boggles at even attempting to film a scene with the choreography and style of John Woo, but it is very refreshing to see a story of such a personal nature in an action film. As an added bonus, the film also contains one of the greatest screen performances ever. Chow Yun-Fat in the role of Jeff. Highly recommended.

Summary: Violence as a Ballet
Review: Not your typical American action film, John Woo creates high art with his choreographed gun battles with more rounds shot than all the Die Hard movies together. Those of you looking for a Hong Kong version of "Face/Off" need not read further, those of you who like to be challenged and provoked by film must see this movie. Truly a masterpiece of modern film. This is not a movie for the faint of heart, but neither is it for the $50million dollar hero gets girl at the end crowd. Chow Yun-Fat is at his most compelling in this film. To convince the audience a bad guy can truly be good and just is his ultimate feat. On par with "A Better Tomorrow" and "Bullet in The Head".

Summary: a pumping powerhouse of a movie!!!!!!!
Review: John Woo is at near perfect form in this action classic. A killer faces off against his worst enemy, only to find they both have much in common. What happens after that is a splatter filled movie with criminals, redemption and thousands of bullets.

Review: This was my first John Woo/Chow Yun Fat movie and it opened my eyes about action movies. Compared to this Hollywood's turn outs are slow, predicatble, awkward and tame. There actually is a story, the acting is good, and the action balletic. This is my top action movie.
