Rating: Summary: Not award winning but fun nontheless Review: I do not believe that this film was meant to be an award winner. For people who are looking for a believable and realistic film this is not for you. However, if you you just want to have fun with a film and enjoy some easy laughter, this is for you! The thought of a hit man with an insecurity problem is a gut busting change of pace to the genre and Lou is delightfully wicked and warped. This is not a family film and is definatly a testosterone festival. I have to say that I found it completly enjoyable!
Rating: Summary: Thin, shallow, all-surface gloss ... Review: So many flaws and only 1,000 words to work with. The action sequences were entertaining, but I would have more fun playing video games if I dug that sort of a thing. The camera-work was slick and some of the locations were pretty down, but everything else was just over-played, under-cooked filler. The characters were stereotypical exaggerations of their most reprehensible traits. Wahlberg was spineless to the point of disgust; Phillips' jive-talking caricature was just an excuse for him to reprise and show off his knife-wielding skills from "Young Guns" Bokeem Woodbine's character was there for some kind of comic relief but otherwise had no part in the story; the Jewish parents bashed Catholics and the kidnappee's father was Charlie Chan on some sort of bad acid. The situations were trite - the humor was off-color and well, stupid. The motivaiton to several scenes was a rented videotape of "Godzilla" It sounds funny but it was played totally wrong. It's the precise definition of Hitchcock's McGuffin - the audience just doesn't give a $#it about it but the characters do - proving themselves to be idiots at the same time. The only character that gets any sympathy is Antonio Sobato Jr - who bookends the movie with relatively little dialogue and just seems to be peripheral to life in general. John Woo, Wesley Snipes and Mark Walhberg all could have found a better endeavor in the action genre - and if you're in the mood for a really good black comedy involving a hit man, turn your attention toward "Grosse Pointe Blank" and get out of la-la land.
Rating: Summary: Not such a big hit, but not bad try. Review: The Big Hit, while not exactly a masterpiece of modern cinema, still entertains briefly as an action comedy farce. Some good action scenes stand out, especially at the start. The comedy, however is a little goofy. A likeable, occasionally imaginative romp.
Rating: Summary: KNUCKLE UP! Review: This movie is my all-time favorite. If you do get it, be prepared to either love it or hate it with a vengence, because that is usually what happens after someone sees "the big hit". The people who didn't like this movie (many were from Australia for some reason)say they don't like the violance in it for being too graphic. If, however, you understand that movie violance does not actually happen in real life, and no one actually dies, you should like this movie. Once you have that concept mastered, sit back for a hilarious and exiting movie. When you do, remember that the fight scenes and stuff are not suppossed to be realistic, just cool, so thats why they are heavily cheorographed. Also, the features rock in this movie, with interactive menu and director and screenwriter audio commentary. Plus, Lou Diomond Phillips is absoultly great in this. One last thing. THIS MOVIE IS A SPOOF, DONT START WHINING ABOUT THINGS THAT MAYBE COULDN'T HAPPEN IN REAL LIFE!
Rating: Summary: 120 minutes of volatage Review: Yes, 120 minutes of voltage. And by that I mean I would rather be intimately hooked up to a car battery than forced to watch this movie again. At least I can blame my mistake on ignorance, you now have no excuse. I had no idea the story would be this bad, this is Japan's version of a way over the top film. An overkill in every aspect, especially in the fight scenes. Yes, fight scenes need a little coreography, but shouldn't they still be believable? I thought somebody recorded the Cher concert over the tape. Wahlberg's character is the most spineless, whining character of all time. Were we suppose to root for this guy. He's just annoying and he's suppose to be a hit man? The Telletubbies could work this guy over. I feel I am somehow stupider for watching this movie. If I am ever questioned about this movie face to face, I will lie at gun point denying I have ever seen it. And yes if it comes down to it, I would rather be able to jump start a Celica with my gonad electricity that watch this movie again.
Rating: Summary: this movie busts caps! Review: This is one of the funniest movies ever made! If you hate this movie, you're either dumb or a woman. If you want a laugh, get this "big hit". Lou Diamond Phillips is hilarious, too. Very enthusiastic.
Rating: Summary: Sucked! Review: This movie is the stupidest film out there it was short, poorly acted, and it wasn't even beleivable! Come on people we can't subject our selves to film that we get nothing out of. This film is a waste of money and time.
Rating: Summary: Loosen up and have a laugh! Review: Most of my friends hated this movie because they thought it wasn't grown-up entertainment( whatever that means). I enjoyed it and laughed till I got a headache! Lou Diamond Phillips especially made the movie! MO LUV!
