Rating: Summary: Gun poetry Review: I love this movie, I actually love this movie so much, that I bought the excellent soundtrack as well. What can you say, after seeing a movie with the quality of this one? This movie is probably a guy's movie, but it is so intelligent, that both genders will like it. There are many different opinions about this one, since it is in many hearts too violent, but when I see this movie I sit back and enjoy every minute of it.This is a sort of western / gangster flick. Sounds kind of cheesy? Think again. You have to actually see this movie more than once to get in all of the story, which is cleverly told by Bruce Willis as a sort of narrator, and some of the story is hidden. I love the different characters portrayed in this movie, every one of them tells a story of a different gangster with his own agenda, but still working for the same cause in the gang. It's funny that the main man, Bruce Willis probably has the most black and white character: The man without a conscience, but please tell me about a movie where Brucie had more than an enough fleshed out character. I for one think that Bruce Willis never had a better moment, than in exactly this movie. "Last man Standing" is the worse title for the movie about the man who finds himself stuck right in the middle of a gang war in a western town in the mid 50's. Last man Standing performs beautifully what happens, when a man, who couldn't care less about anything, steps right in the middle of an epic emotional war between two proud gangs who fight for dominance in a town already dead. Listen to the beautiful music, get your girl beside you, and BELIEVE that gun fights should be the way to solve all conflicts. The rest is up to "Last man Standing." Enjoy.
Rating: Summary: Great Action Movie Review: I thought this is one of Willis greatest movies(up there with Die Hard and The Fith Element),I love how he has those two twin 45's ablazing when some bad guy walks up and makes him mad.It reminds me of a John Woo film.Walter Hill is at his best here!
Rating: Summary: Best Movie Ever Made (or close to it) Review: i wasn't going to write a review here - it didn't seem like the movie needed it. All my friends have seen it, and all agree this is one of the best films ever, assuming you like this type of movie (Hong Kong action). But some people actually claimed that this wasn't an awesome movie - the gall of them! i've seen both Yojimbo and Fist Full of Dollars. Personally, while many people liked the latter, i really didn't care for Fist Full of Dollars or Clint Eastwood - it was boring. Yojimbo, on the other hand, had character - the opportunistic samurai was funny in his scheming way Last Man Standing is Yojimbo, only there's two gangs of alcohol runners in a tiny dirt town fighting a gang war rather than two gang of samurai in a dying town fighting a gang war. The super action hero mysterious stranger just passing through joins both sides as a hired gun (he changes back and forth a couple times) in an attempt to make money off both of them. He doesn't kill innocents but kills lots of gang members from both sides So it's Yojimbo and Fist Full of Dollars. You probably know if you like that kind of movie, although, in my opinion, the people who did this movie executed it flawlessly - i love a good execution. And if you're into cinematography (Fist Full of Dollar's weak point), this movie is dark and gorgeous But the highlight, in my mind, is the action. You know what Hong Kong action looks like, right? All those John Woo movies where the flawed hero has two guns and people hit with bullets go flying 20 feet in the air? Yeah, you know them. Most of these movies (Hard Boiled, Crime Story, etc.) are from Hong Kong, but a couple, like Last Man Standing, Robert Rodriguez's Desperado and The Matrix, are made in the US. And this particular one is awesome. If you like action movies and are willing to suffer through a great plot, great acting (especially Christopher Walken) and great cinematography to get those fight scenes, this is a movie for you
Rating: Summary: a good story... poorly done Review: I wish to keep this short, so I'll only say this: I liked this movie better the first time-- when it was called 'A Fistfull of Dollars'.

Rating: Summary: What you talkin' about, Willis? Review: I'll tell you what he's talkin' about - a great violent movie, Baby!
Yeah, I know violence isn't usually a great thing. Please don't sent me hate emails, okay? (I get enough of those from my ex-girlfriends.)
This is a good movie with a good script. Yes, it's violent, but that's what the script calls for. Bruce Willis, as always, gives a great performance in this.
Funny story about when I saw this in the theater: when I walked in there were only two other people there - an old couple. They walked out halfway through the movie. Then it was just me watching LAST MAN STANDING all by myself.
At the end, an usher walked in, pointed at me, and yelled out, "Look - it's 'Last Man Sitting!'"
Funny usher!

Rating: Summary: Get rid of the dialogue and stick with Cooder Review: If a movie is to revolve around an outsider who ends up stranded in a town, empty, except for two conflicting gangs one would expect a great deal of pointedness and something unexpected. Not here. Instead we get a film failing to accurately revive many styles it wears on its' sleeve (noir, western, dimestore novel), let alone add new life to them. To kick things we find Bruce Willis in the lead role bumbling his way through a role which might conceivably be steeped in symbolism; yet Willis insists on blandness. If one is to have "no conscience," as he is, then don't pepper the film with uninsightful narration. Any attempted allegory quickly falls on top of itself, without Willis' help, due to an untenable thought that two gangs would attempt to thrive in a town devoid of a population. To try and make it believable we would need insightful thematic motifs but instead receive a kidnapped daughter and a suitcase of shredded paper. So one might hope for intense violence. Not here. The shotouts are brief and poorly choreographed. So why two stars? The soundtrack. Ry Cooder does manage to conjure up some spooky sounds making the soundtrack a worthy purchase. The music does add to the attempted noir tinge in the film, but this aspect to the film falls flat as well as a certain stylized brackish attitude so vital to noir film is missing.
Rating: Summary: I LOVE IT SO MUCH I WANTED TO GO OUT AND SHOOT SOMEBODY TOO Review: In this movie, one of Willis' best, he kicks a$$!! It was one of the best movies I had ever seen!! the time or age was perfectly fitted for the movie. Great actors, and great script!!!
Rating: Summary: What a Surprise Review: It took me a long time to see this movie - I guess I'm still falling victim to critics that I have never agreed with in the past. The movie was supposed to be bad and violent. It was violent. I'm wondering now if anyone watched the same movie I did? The premise is that there is this small place populated with a bunch of bad guys (two sides, but both are really, really bad), some kinda-sorta bad, kinda-sorta good folks that don't have a side, and one victim. Into the middle of that mess comes John Smith (Bruce Willis), who contents himself with working the system and sitting on the fence. Smith is very bad. The difference is, he's aware of bad and good. At some point along comes a Texas Ranger who tells John Smith (who he calls "Son" repeatedly) that it is time to fix this mess. He is, for the most part, a tolerant fellow, this Ranger, but Jericho has gotten out of hand. He's coming back in 10 days with his band of angels (woops!) I mean rangers, and he's going to take out the whole mess - unless maybe Smith can take care of it first. And at some point, Smith gets off the fence and actually makes a choice, saves the one worthwhile victim/icon, and incites the sorta goods, sorta bads to lift a finger to redeem themselves enough to become worth saving.... This is a story about redemption - no one is spick and span and no one gets away scott free. But this is not a story about gangsters. It was facinating to watch this movie twist (even though it did so at times with fits of self-denial) with all the subtle hints in settings and dialog that played out like a Hermin Melville plot. I watched it twice in a row - and will watch again. The violence was too violent, the timing not perfect. But, this was a darn good movie. Though, apparently, few have noticed that, and most especially those that should have. At least I can appreciate why Willis made it now.
