Rating: Summary: ONE OF THE WORST MOVIES EVER MADE Review: Can I give a film a 0? Awful, awful, awful. Lou Diamond Phillips is so over the top it is like he is the only one getting the joke. Mark Wahlberg, who redeemed himself with BOOGIE NIGHTS from his Marky Mark days, slides back down. What is really a hoot is the screenwriter's commentary. He talks with passion about the film as if he was Tarantino. That this script got produced is a slap to the face to all aspiring screenwriters out there. Do yourself a favor and watch something decent.
Rating: Summary: The Big Hit or The Big S***? Review: If you like movies loaded with offensive sexual, racial and moral undertones, The Big Hit is for you. I wonder if any of the actors actually read the script before committing to this 91-minute complete waste of time. The women are all floozy and money-grubbing, the men want nothing more than to get rich and get in the sack, and the "hit man with a heart of gold" theme is repulsive. I was especially sorry to see Lou Diamond Philips, an actor who once had so much potential, lower himself to play a misogynistic street thug. Don't waste your time on The Big Hit.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining and worth watching. Review: I didn't expect this movie to be Oscar-worthy so I wasn't disappointed. The movie was very entertaining and the characters were interesting. I even found myself feeling sorry for Wahlberg's character. There were some things that were far fetched (even cheezy), but what movies aren't these days? It's a nice mix of comedy and action and the acting is good. Definitely worth watching.
Rating: Summary: Not bad at all...entertaining Review: I thought this movie was very entertaining, although the continutity was not strong, the humor was well done. Keiko is achingly beautiful, and Whalberg is just so naive it's great :)
Rating: Summary: Too much kidding around for a hitman movie Review: For a movie involving life and death, the actors were fooling around too much. ie, the scene where the hostage was supposed to to read the ransom note, also drinking tea during a hit (at the begining of movie).
Rating: Summary: Not the best but still a hit Review: Though this black comedy was not obvious enough in it's delivery to make it the comedy it could have been, it's action and drama were not deep enough to make it the action adventure it could have been either. What it ends up being is a mix between the two that kept me wishing they would have gone one way or the other. The chemistry between Wahlberg and chow (off-screen partners or so I'm told) was exceptional and all the acting was very well done. A lot of great scenes that almost add up to a great movie. Worth a watch.
Rating: Summary: Super, very funny, lots of action. Review: I love this movie. Keiko is so cute too. It's worth it just to see her smile :)
Rating: Summary: This movie is awesome! Review: OK, I admit it, I'm a woman and I *love* Mark Wahlberg, but even that aside, this movie is a lot of fun and pleases both sexes. It's got your pulp fictiony action/fighting scenes and your love story (albeit cheesy). But the point of this movie is not seriousness. It got me laughing quite a bit, and holding my breath a bit. I'm a sucker for this type of comedy/action movie. I highly suggest THE BIG HIT. Oh, and Mark -- if you're reading this by chance, you have got to be the sexiest man alive! ;-D
Rating: Summary: The Big Hit...Hits Its Mark! Review: The Big Hit sets out to be an "In Your Face" action-comedy, ultra violent gangster movie and it delivers. Can't be compared to Pulp Fiction or Goodfellas, but on its own, it is an entertaining film because all the characters and some of the situation devices are treated as a cartoon rather than a serious gangster flick. Mark Wahlberg, a mild mannered hitman, situated in middle suburbia, is forced to do a side job (a kidnapping)to make some quick cash to support a girlfriend and a fiance. The kidnapping job goes all wrong, and that's when the absurdity of the movie goes into full gear and some hilarious slapstick action occurs. Lou Diamond Phillips shows off some comedic chops as the double crossing hit squad member and is one of the funniest characters in the movie. Also, some funny moments with Lainie Kazan, Elliott Gould and Avery Brooks. Mark Wahlberg's mild mannered hit man is a surprise and has some nice moments with the kidnap victim (China Chow). Overall, a very entertaining film which should have been longer than 90 minutes. Also, the DVD has pretty good extras like Director/Producer commentary and deleted scenes.
Rating: Summary: Lou Diamond Phillips is the reason to watch this film. Review: This film is fairly standard fare. It won't make the top of anyone's list, unless 1) you're a gal who wants to see men's muscles & butts in one memorable scene, or 2) Lou Diamond Phillip's performance, which made me want to watch this film twice in a row. He's just... exhuberant, funny, fast, and at the top of his game in this film. It's the only time I've ever seen him do such an over-the-top comedic character, and OH, I wish he'd reprise the role. He's stylish and funny, though the director pushes him a bit too far toward being an ethnic stereotype.
Overall, the film is predictable, and filled with stereotypes. The plot has no holes, but you can guss the remainder of the plot within 15 minutes of the start...and you're left gagging at the unbelievability of the entire thing.
If it's on TV, WATCH IT for Lou Diamond Phillip's performance, and the hysterical "Trace Buster Buster Buster" (tm) scene.
If you're asked to pay for it, buy the film "Lock Stock and 2 smoking Barrels" instead.
