Summary: A landmark in comic book movies
Review: The great Tim Burton overhauled the campy 60's era Batman into a gothic, brooding vigilante that turned the way comic book movies being made on its ear. I remember seeing this movie in the summer of 89 at the movies with my mom when I was a little kid, it wowed me then, and it wows me now. Michael Keaton is the best Batman ever, and I don't blame him for not wanting any part of Joel Schumacher's chapters in the Batman saga. Keaton is perfect as the dark brooding hero by night, and the millionaire playboy by day. Jack Nicholson brings the Joker to a new level, making him a darkly humorous villian, and one of, if not the, greatest villian to ever appear in a comic based film. I read reviews by people saying that the Joker was mean spirited, what a bunch of malarchy, if he wasn't mean spirited, then Nicholson's characterization would not have worked. All in all, the first installment of the new Batman saga is still the best no matter what, and with the way the series is now, it will be the best of all time.

Summary: Great movie that has been unfairly maligned by Spider Man
Review: Back in 1989 when Batman came out I thought this movie was really good, but now after having seen Spider-Man I can understand a lot of people have looked back on this movie and have expressed more dissatisfaction about Batman because it was a more darker and hostile movie. Indeed, this version of Batman is not like the campy 1960s TV show and the origins story told here is based on The Joker (The Joker killed Batman's parents? Where did that come from?). In fact The Joker gets more screen time than the Caped Crusader. I liked Jack Nicohlson's performance but his rendition of The Joker was very mean-spirited.
The visuals were stunning, but this is what you would expect from a Tim Burton film. Theres no story behind it. I would've given Batman one star, but Burton is one of my favorite directors so I have to give this movie a good rating even though it has now been unfairly maligned by the public (the movie was the highest grossing film in 1989, but only because of marketing and mass publicity). Still, Batman is a good movie to look back to if you want to see a comic book superhero come to life even though the movie did not do a very good job at it.

Summary: This movie has no substance to it.
Review: Tim Burton is known for his great visionary style of film making, but there is often little substance to his films. This movie was one of them. We are treated to great one liners by Jack Nicolson's Joker, but Michael Keaton's Batman always seems so under-developed and not much dimensional to him. This movie is too dark and lacks any hope for the future of Gothom City.

Review: It seems that all of the comic book to film movies don't usually work, and live up to its expectations... But with further due Batman doesn't fit in these catergories, if you read a Batman comic and enjoyed it, you will definenlty enjoy this movie.
Many people who are not into the Batman comics often think of Batman as the television show in the 60's. A more of a slap stick style of a show, a mere [bad show] of Bob Kanes Dark knight comics. This movie The Batman is nothing like that show, this movie has entertainment and grit! And yes the Joker does give us the laughter of the movie. Nicholson is the star of the movie, an over done job as the Joker. He was a perfect match for his role.
The acting and the special affects makes this a classic movie. A direct comic replica of the Batman! This movie will not be missed or forgotten, its a movie for all ages. Everybody has a little Bat inside of them!

Summary: The BEST Batman
Review: This is the TRUE Batman. Not the over-dramatized special effects queen and not the guy running down the parking lot in blue spandex, this film brings the cult superhero to life. The film is probably the best out of all of them. In my opinion, Batman Forever and Batman & Robin were both over-stylized and lost all sense of believability. Instead of going for good plots and suspense they took the cheap route and decided to turbo-charge the special effects, a true disappointment. I'm sorry, but not even Jim Carrey as The Riddler can compare to this masterpiece.P.S. Jack Nicholsan is effing great in this movie!

Review: Unless you born after 1989 - or lived under a pretty big rock, you are probably aware that the Dark Knight, BATMAN made a startling cinematic resurgence. Gone were the ZAP, BAM, and POW of the campy television series. In its place, a brooding protagonist running amok in a cool car through Gotham, an industrial town unchallenged by geometry. All the time, he is tracking the rise and fall of the sadistic and villainous JOKER. And what a journey it is.
Director Tim Burton (EDWARD SCISSORHANDS) bravely re-imagined the Bat franchise, focusing more on the emergence of the villain rather then the more obvious hero. The Batman is left better to the daring feats of strength, wit and creativity. Casting of the Dark Knight proved to be an ominous chore as longtime fans of the comic book had strong misgivings for casting funny man, Michael Keaton (BEETLEJUICE). Their concerns now are unwarranted and after he was replaced a couple sequels later, those same detractors were screaming for his return Burton was confident in keeping the Batman as part of the cities underworld, quite often traveling in shadow. THE JOKER has a less subtle approach. He does all he can to get his grin seen by as many Gotham-ites as possible. Jack Nicholson brought new meaning to 'the villain you love to hate' as he rises from ordinary hood to colorful maniac. Throw in a damsel in distress, Vicki Vale played by Oscar Winner Kim Basinger (L.A. CONFIDENTIAL) and an often-hilarious newspaper sidekick, Robert Wuhl (BULL DURHAM) and you've got your character soup. Now, place them in a wonderful dark world, an indescribable mix of past and future and fasten your utility belt.
BATMAN is a huge success and a must for fans of comic adventures. This was a very early DVD release so the video transfer is not tremendous and the film itself challenges the screens dark contrast. The audio is great, especially highlighted is Danny Elfman's musical score, an instant classic.
Followed up by 3 sequels of varying success, this BATMAN is a great film filled with startling, often memorable images that will leave you asking, "Where does he get those wonderful toys?"

Review: What can I say? This film was a box-office champ and now you should buy. It's the best tied with #3. Nicklson was a good bad guy, ya know what I mean? At first I was a little weary Keaton wouldn't nail Batman, but he nailed everything! The voice, movement, overall eveything! Oh, and I love Alfred. Always have, always will. The most lovable characters are Alfred and Wuhl as Knotts. WUHL ROX!

Review: OK, great film buy it today. Good pictures, good sound. But y'all, I don't care how many features it has! It's a good film! But, features would make it better. Review: The movie "Batman" is about a wealthy businessman turned cape crusader, Bruce Wyane (Actor Michael Keaton) who witnessed the murder of his parents as a boy. He later learned the man he was about face again as Batman was the Joker (Actor Jack Nicholson) that is out to terrorized all of Gotham City. Will Batman ever be able to save Gatham, or will he fall directly into the Joker's hands?
