Rating: Summary: Much better than the Newer Batman Films Review: This is a great movie. I watch the TV Show every day on TV Land and I was just searching for movies when I typed in "Batman" I then skipped all the movies and found something I was interested in. Batman: The Movie 1966. I then put it to the top of my Rental Queue and I did not regret it. If you liked the TV Show you will love this movie. It features Catwoman, Riddler, Joker, and The Penguin on one movie. With Batman and Robin fighting Sharks and using Submarines and the "Bat Boat" It also has the Batmobile (like always) and the Bat Copter. It comes with great documentaries from Adam West and Burt Ward. You won't be dissapointed if you rent this movie.
Rating: Summary: True Batman fun, but it's rather wandering Review: I was going to get to see this movie on DVD, but then my brother did NOT receive this for his birthday. However, the movie just came on a cable channel, so I popped a tape in to record it.Basic plot: Batman and Robin must contend with the union of the four supercrooks: that purring master of crime Catwoman (Julie Newmar makes an OKAY Catwoman), that kingpin of cruel mirth, Joker (good old Ceaser Romero), the wickedly puzzling Riddler (Frank Gorshin), and the twisted waddling antics of Penguin (Burgess Merideth) as they attempt to take over the whole world. BAD: I don't think the script writers for Batman know how to handle a full-length movie. The plot kind of wandered a little. You knew that the United Nations building was the target of the criminals, but they don't get around to their objective for about 45 minutes. They merely go about and commit random crimes, and battle the Dynamic Duo as Batman and Robin combat their mischief. The violence is just your average dynamic duo fistfights: BIFF's, EEYOWW's and POW's included. The only other thing one might object to is Bruce Wayne's relationship with Ms. Kitka, a Russian reporter who also happens to be Catwoman in disguise. Bruce falls in love with her, and even goes back to her apartment, where he "feels as if he's about to be madly carried away!". It turns out he is - carried by the crooks in the part of a kidnapping. But it can still raise an eyebrow that Bruce is almost beside himself for Ms. Kitka. GOOD: It's classic Batman humor. Same old antics, just with a bit of higher quality, since it's a movie. (Example, Bruce and Dick drive up to Stately Wayne Manor in an exterior shot) Batman always solves the most odd riddles at a heartbeat, of course, and incredible luck can be with them ("Who would have guessed we'd land on this giant foam rubber display, Robin?"), or against them ("Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb!") The movie was lots of fun, but personally, I'd rather have seen some of my favorite, and less serious villains from the TV show: Shame the Cowboy, Egghead, King Tut, etc. Still, it's lots of fun, and you should see it if you are a fan of the old Batman and Robin series from the 1960's.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Film Review: Batman: The Movie is an excellent film. Must probably one of the best movies I have seen. Don't fall for all these dumb animated Batman movies, get the ORIGINAL. The story starts off where The Joker, The Penguin, The Riddler, and The Catwoman, join forces together to conquer Gotham City. They then steal a dehydration gun and kidnap the UN Security Council. This is a must see film. It is excellent. Now what are you waiting for? Go Add it to Your Cart.
Rating: Summary: Batman-the movie Review: Holy mouldy Batman!!! What an absolute treat. The commentary with Adam and Burt is loads of fun. The colors are right out of a comic book and the script is right off TV. During the first season my assignment for American Government class in high school was to watch this TV series each week, so I saw them all-except the movie. It's a nastalgic look back into innocent campy escapism from an era that brought us Man From U.N.C.L.E. and I Spy and of course Get Smart. I consider this a one-of-a-kind movie which can never be matched. I consider this a must have for a well rounded DVD collection.
Rating: Summary: Classic Batman...complete with the cheese! Review: Adam West & Burt Ward...the ORIGINAL Dynamic Duo have the greatest challenge ahead of them. The Joker (Cesar Romero), The Penguin (Burgess Meredith), The Riddler (Frank Gorshin) & The Catwoman (Lee Meriweather...Julie Newmarr was unavailable) combine forces and kidnap the U.N. Security Council with a dehydration gun. OK..some of the SFX are laughable...like the phony shark...BUT IT'S FUN TO WATCH! BEST SCENE: Batman & the bomb.
Rating: Summary: Just buy it Review: This is probably one of the worst movies of all time - but its brilliant. The script is so ridiculous its laughable. Batman in his helicopter gets shot out of the air by a stray missile from Penguin's submarine and then by, lands safely in a pile of rubber at the USA rubber foam convention. Genius! Acting is better than you would think. Just turn off your brain and enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Did Bob Kane Really have this in Mind? Review: As much of a deviation from Bob Kane's haunting image of a bitter, vengeful vigilante as this is (trust me, I've read the old stuff)... Its funny. Flat out funny. The first time I saw it, I didn't know if it was supposed to be funny... But after that, it didn't matter anymore, because I couldn't help but laugh. Other reviewers talk about the great performances, the "subtle wit," etcetera; I'm sorry to say, this movie has none of that. The wit is anything but subtle, its absurdity presented in a dry tone: "That shark... It was pulling my leg... The Joker!" "It happened at sea, see? "C" for Catwoman!" Adam West, Burt Ward, Cesar Romero, Frank Gorshin, and Lee Meriwether, and Burgess Merideth aren't exactly convincing, but the movie is worth it just for the Riddler's jokes (written in the sky by ICBMs) and Bruce Wayne's pathetic attempts to seduce Miss Kitka.
Rating: Summary: Classic Batman With Digital DVD Standard! Review: I AM a keened collector of those glorious and classic Technicolor movies (the most sought-after being the pictures where the Kalmus couple - the inventor of the Technicolor dye process - presided over to make every segment as postcard-gorgeous as possible) fortunately available in the DVD format. Of the hundreds of DVD films I've archived in the family home, the often-seen ones that I return to again and again, only boils down to around ten. At the top of the list is Wizard of Oz, GOOD NEWS, Sound of Music, Ten Commandments, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, Marty and...Batman. The DVD transfer of this four-decade old film is one of the most superb I've owned, its one among the very select that could appear as brilliant and clean when shown on a 50-inch Mitsubishi projector TV. This film doesn't hold much cinematic nostalgia for me because I wasn't born yet when it was premiered, its the idea of Batman as he is drawn, depicted and acted in this film and in the comic book of that period that truly draws me to value it like I treasure the book "My Bible Friends" or my old World's Finest comics. Since I've shown it this year to my 3-year old niece and nephew, it truly REVOLUTIONIZE and animates them, as well as their imagination, to a height that their Lego toys or dolls can barely approximate. My nephew has even requested to have his birthday cake adorned with the Batman logo and a ceramic figure. It truly warms me seeing them appreciate the character, and being able to identify with the wholesome zeitgeist and ideals of Batman and the way movies are being done during that time. It was a period when people still holds an "Absolute Morality" and reveres the Judeao-Christian ethics, so sadly absent now in Western culture. I don't have children myself that's why I am gladdened when my nephews shares my enthusiasm for this classic "memorabilias." If you care for Technicolor movies, kindly add Batman to your collection, its no Cecil B. deMilles but the quality and the innocence of the proceedings is qulaifiably priceless. And I'm saying this direct from THE PHILIPPINES!
