Summary: It cannot be watched. Official.
Review: Occasionally, along comes a film that is of such preternatural badness that you cannot describe it's awfulness. Thankfully, this isn't that movie. This boisterously jejeune enterprise jumps the shark early with a positively cringe enducing duet sung between Willis and Aiello while robbing a museum. It then goes on to pole vault the polecat, leap the lizard, circumnavigate the crocodile, skip the snake, bye-pass the barracuda and last, but by no means least, winch over the whale. Yes, my scriptwriter is Bruce Willis.
Mr Aeillo seems happy to have his weight ridiculed in order to feed the wife and kids.
I have tried twice to watch this film and was forced to give up again in exactly the same place. It is genuinely unwatchable. The reviews here suggest that it really is impossible to go broke under-estimating the intelligence of the American public. DVD rules! Astonishingly, someone even wrote a several paragraph thesis on why the script was in the tradition of William Shakespeare. Well, Bill never had much of a sense of comedy so maybe he's on to something. The trouble is, if all laws of the known universe are suspended, so is suspense. Which is why, at least for me, 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' grows tiresome after twenty minutes.
I have it on good authority that this lamentable effort gets worse when Richard E Grant turns up. No suspension of disbelief needed there, then.
I'm determined to sit through it all one day. I'm thinking of having someone tie me to a chair in front of a television and administer large doses of mescalin every twenty minutes or so. On second thoughts, better make that ten. I'll be able to finish that Noam Chomsky, too.

Summary: Funny
Review: This isn't a serious movie or good acting but one of those movies that you can just sit back and laugh. Me and my brother really enjoy this movie. This is just a comdey. So don't worry about a plot or the acting. This is one of those good movies that you can just turn off your mind and enjoy.

Summary: Corny, funny and very enjoyable
Review: This film is very enjoyable and must have been a lot of fun for Bruce Willis. Its one of those films that you can watch over and over. I saw it at the movies and bought it as soon as it came out on DVD.

I own the Region 4 version which also allows you to watch the film in Spanish or English audio (as does a lot of Region 4 DVD's), I'm not sure though if the Region 1 version offered here has Spanish audio.

In Australia many people by multiple region DVD players so it really does not matter to us where we buy our DVD's but people in the United States might like to check it out first if Spanish audio is important to you.

Summary: do yourself a favor and BUY THIS!!!!!!
Review: Like a lot of people, I hated this movie until i actually watched it. My wife and i quote it all the time. They really acheived what they were after. I for one do not believe it was marketed properly when it was in theaters and therefore no one liked it.

Summary: Leftover 80's action comedy reject! Blech!
Review: Only Bruce Willis could come up with such a self indulgent tale
where he gets to sing. In fact the "singing thieves"
bit is in fact the best part of the movie. The story is a mess, the characters are forgettable, the performances are ridiculous.
One might think they were GOING for laughs and absurdity here but that's not exactly the case as at every other turn they try to dazzle us with action and effects sequences. (explosions that go boom. whee.)
It isn't funny. None of the over the top performances are funny. The plot has enough loopholes to make you think that the script was written by an 80's sitcom writer, and all of it smacks as bits left over from Willis' Moonlighting days. Thank God he eventually learned how to act three years later with Pulp Fiction. The only interesting thing about this movie other than the timed singing bit is that a very young David Caruso is in it.

Summary: WAY AHEAD OF ITS TIME!
Review: Which is why many people never got it. They were probably expecting DIE HARD or a hard action film but this is delightfully lighthearted and funny in a silly kind of way. NO WAY is it meant to be taken seriously. Like a film where thieves time their robberies to songs is supposed to be real?

Eddie Hawkins (Willis) is the Hudson Hawk, the greatest catburglar who ever lived and he has been blackmailed by the CIA and an OTT camp villian couple called The Mayflowers (Richard E. Grant and Sandra Bernhard). Against his will he is shipped off to Rome (literally) to steal some of DaVinci's greatest works. His friend Tommy (Danny Aiello) and an undercover nun (Andie MacDowell) assist him as he robs the Vatican and tries to shake off a bunch of MTV-generation CIA agents called the Candy Bars (Kit-Kat, Butterfinger, Snickers and Almond Joy). Much adventure and comedy follows.

It's got lots of silly humor and cool stunts and is richly bizzare too. Quite refreshing really. Don't watch this expecting anything else than deliberate silliness. It's a film I can watch when I'm in any mood as it is major fun.

The DVD is in pretty plain Dolby 2.0 surround and is anamorphically enhanced at 1.85:1

Summary: "And if there's anything I hate, it's failure- "
Review: I loved this movie. My brother and I could get a good laugh years after watching it just by quoting the bad guys. They were, to be honest, over the top, but who loves convention in a film? Other than misguided movie critics?

Summary: It lasts and lasts
Review: This DVD brings back great memories. I remember seeing this film for the first time in the movie theater and laughing till I cried. And then realizing that, while the theater was half full, I was the only one making noise.
If you have yet to see this film, I'm sorry. And if you have seen this film and didn't get it, I'm very sorry. Bruce Willis went up in my estimation with how well he played Hudson Hawk. He pulled it off in a "I know this is smarmy, but you just got to laugh" kind of way. Andie McDowell played the perfect "straight man" (ok,woman)
So if you are looking for a belly laugh that lasts and lasts, this is the movie to watch.

Summary: You'll Love the Second Bananas
Review: Ignore Willis and other "main characters" and watch this goof fest for the wild and wacky performance of Richard E. Grant and Sandra Bernhard as the evil supervillain power couple. You can tell by the way that they look at each that they realize two things: the script is pointless and they are being paid to vacation in Italy. This liberates them to be the living subconscious of rich marrieds everywhere--we all know the genuinely wealthy would behave this way if they could get away with it--and doesn't Princess Stephanie or Caroline of Monaco's rich German nobleman-hubby perform similarly splashy violent vulgarities? Watch Grant and Bernhard, eat popcorn, laugh and feel morally superior all at once. Enjoy!
