Review: while Eddie Murphy's Film Career has been a Hit&Miss Party since this Film came out you can't take away the Personna&Wit Eddie brings here.the Dvd Verison has a Cool overview of how this film was Concieved&the many changes it went through.I think as Good as the Film is the Soundtrack&the Music used in the Scenes are also a Winning Combination.the cool thing is that the director&Producer talk about the Music working within the film.take a Note Film-Makers who for the past Decade have been just throwin around Songs in a film without any connection what was happening up there on the big screen.I enjoyed the Chemistry of all the Actors in this film.Eddie Murphy was in Peak Mode here.easily one of His Best Performances.I Dig Sly Stallone but I'm glad He turned this role down because Eddie was clearly the Right Choice.wouldn't wanna hear Sly yelling Yo Victor! all through the film.Props to all on this Film.

Summary: Not Good At All
Review: This movie is not good to me at all. This movie has a thin story line, Axel Foley makes drug busts for cocaine. The movie seems like they took a Miami Vice episode and made it a movie. This movie released in late 1984 grossed an astonishing 234 million dollars. The only highlight to this movie was it's soundtrack... Get the sequel at least that was better.

Summary: Why Eddie Murphy is a star
Review: This is another example of how Eddie Murphy shines when he is given good material. 48 Hours, Trading Places, Bowfinger, and this film are the highlights of his career. Other actors would be happy to have just one of those films in their legacy. Unfortunately, the sequels did not measure up, but gave Murphy plenty of room to mug--something he should try to restrain. The Nutty Professor is a perfect example of this behavior: his subtle and tender turn as Sherman Klump (and his family) was overshadowed by his wild antics as Buddy Love--to the harm of the picture. The man can act, he just needs to be structured and not let to run the production. Judge Reinhold is a discovery here. His performance as the cop who has to follow the rules but doesn't want to is terrific--every note. One can see how he became a star after this (for a while, anyway). His internal glow comes through, his innate innocence makes you sympathize with him immediately (as it did in Fast Times at Ridgemont High). It is unfortunate that after Ruthless People, his career went downhill to the point of playing a father in Santa Clause that really could have been done by an unknown. His riff as a "close talker" on Seinfeld only served to deepen by embarrassment for him. There are so few parts for competent actors these days, especially those who are not inherentely dark, as that seems to be the way movies have gone. I had remembered Bronson Pinchot as having been a stand-out before, but this time his performance simply seemed like a gay caricature (with accent piled on liberally). Lisa Eilbacher gives a gutsy performance as the old friend who gets involved; and James Russo is his usual manic self (didn't he play the same character in 48 Hours--no, wait, doesn't he ALWAYS play the same character?) as the friend of Murphy's who is the catalyst for the whole story.

Summary: Murphy's Best Movie....And He's Got A LOT of Good Movies....
Review: If you watched this production featurette on the 'Beverly Hills Cop 2' DVD (just released), I think it's Tony Snow who says: "The first 'Cop' was more about comedy, the second was about more flash with the comedy". That comment definately carries it's weight, making two unmistakeably great movies that are so different...but so much the same. By 1984, Murphy had already done numerous comedy concerts that packed more people than Richard Prior in the 70s', and had starred in another 'cop action' movie '48 HRS. with Nick Nolte. But 'Beverly Hills Cop' proved to be a movie that he would come to be recognized by, paring Axel Foley, a rule-breaking, slick Detroit cop with an attitude aside two robotic LA plain-clothed police (Ashton, Reinhold). If you ask me once you put lead characters together that mix like pancake ingredients...you've got an excellent movie to give. Murphy's boldness and ability to outsmart and outwit just about everyone offsets Reinhold and Ashton's need to stay within police guidelines. The good thing is that the movie does'nt build barriers while making the plot, there is more language than you'd hear in the Bronx for one day...and the strip club scene with the topless chick would actually prove to be a 'Beverly Hills Cop' tradition...(Just watch the second movie!) As for the actual plot line I dont have to explain it, you can look at any one of these reviews. But from one person who's seen a lot of movies in 20 years, I can safely recommend this flick for anyone looking for a classic comedy that can take a little language or violence. 'Cop 1' merges with 'Cop 2' in some respects, a lot of the setups are the same just to keep the true feel of the movie. Does Inspector Todd lighten up in the second movie,..thank god no. Remember the stolen cigarette truck?..wait'll you see the stolen cement truck. Two great soundtracks also accompany these movies, giving hard-to-find great songs from the 'Pointer Sisters', 'Glenn Frey', 'James Ingram', 'Patti LaBelle', 'Pebbles', 'Vanity' and many more. This store, whatever it's called, is great to offer both 1 and 2 together in music and movies, this DVD is definately one to get your hands on..although I dont think they'll stop making it any time soon. I'll give five stars to this and the second one, both awesome action/comedy flicks that'll survive a generation.

Summary: A classic movie finally given the justice it deserves
Review: "Beverly Hills Cop" is beyond a doubt one of the most entertaining movies of the 80's, and I'd have to say one of my Top 10 of all time. The acting is first rate, the music even better and plot not altogether that far fetched. I won't belabour the storyline here as others have, but what I will say is that the quality of this DVD is superb considering the age of the film (18 years) as is the soundtrack presentation on home theatre systems. (5.1 Dolby Digital) Previous editions of this film on VHS and laserdisc were much too grainy and hardly worthy of purchase, however with this DVD Paramount has pulled out all the stops. Colour quality is excellent and one will find that even the song "Axel F" has a sort of additional beat to it on this disc thanks in large part to their new method of digital transfer bringing the soundtrack even closer to the ear. I definitely recommend this DVD for your collection and Paramount is to be commended for an excellent effort worth every cent of your money.

Summary: Cop Rocks
Review: Eddie Murphy in the role that made him a superstar. This 1984 action comedy has Murphy playing Detroit cop, Axel Foley, who breaks all the rules in order to find out who kills his best friend and why. When the investigation leads him out to California, the how and why really let Murphy do his thing. The film was the first time cops, action, and comedy came together sucessfully on screen. It would be interesting to see the first drafts of the script when Sylvester Stallone was attached to the movie. Director Martin Breast wisely let Murphy ad-lib his way throughout. His jokes and style were in top form back then. He plugs up any flaws in the movie by just being there. The supporting cast includes Ronny Cox, Judge Rienhold, and John Ashton, these folks have some wonderful interplay to help the film along Cameos by then unknowns Paul Rieser and Bronson Pinchot are as funny now as they were back then. The "Special Collector's Edition" DVD offers up decent extras. One thing I took notice of, was that during the audio commetary by the director, he seemed rather unenthusiastic about a lot of it. I was kind of surprised by that. Maybe you will have a different take on it when you hear it? Any fan of the film should enjoy this DVD. I certainly did.

Summary: Jokes that are few and far between.
Review: It's not a good thing when, five minutes into a comedy, you start wondering what exactly should be laughed at. That seems to be the plague that befalls "Beverly Hills Cop," which tailors jokes that are few and far between to a standard police chase plot that ends just how we know it will. Eddie Murphy, in his justly acclaimed performance, plays Detroit police detective Axel Foley, who is well known in his precinct for his oddball methods of botching operations that end up costing the city thousands of dollars. When old pal Mikey Tandino (James Russo) shows up, the two go out for a night on the town; upon returning to Axel's apartment, two well-dressed thugs knock Axel unconscious and murder Mikey. Like any good friend, Axel uses his vacation time as a cover for venturing to Beverly Hills, where he hopes to dig up information and clues leading to Mikey's killer. His discovery that Mikey worked for a major art dealer also leads him to uncover the dealer's dabblings in drug smuggling, though his findings are certainly not without trial and error, as he has countless run-ins with the Beverly Hills police force. As you may well have already guessed, he befriends select members of the department, manages to infiltrate establishments whose security matches that of a daycare center, and ends up saving the day. How comically amusing, I said to myself once the credits rolled; I, in turn, was rolling my eyes. Just what exactly was there to laugh at in the film, besides Eddie Murphy's abundant use of slang terms and profanities? I don't mind profanities as much as the next person, but when the movie's comedic relief revolves around the repetitive use of language, it tends to lose its ability to evoke laughter. There are some scenes that carry their weight, such as Axel's outburst in a hotel lobby, but the long stretches of almost little-to-no interest heavily outweigh these slight moments when the movie shows its potential. Murphy, in perhaps his most beloved role, deserves his praise. As Axel, he almost (almost) carries the movie to success, throwing himself into the character without hesitation. Comedy is his stock in trade, and he does it so well, one wishes the writers would give him more room for improvisation. In the end, "Beverly Hills Cop" is just another routine '80's comedy replete with a ludicrous police scenario and laughs that have lost their luster with the arrival of a new generation of comedy that includes such films as "The Nutty Professor." It's awash with predictability, which could be easily overlooked if there was something in the material, anything, that was worth laughing at.

Summary: Good comedy entertainment
Review: Despite the two sequels that were formulaic this first one is the best of them in my opinion. It has a good story the trace of a friend's murder that leaves Axel Foley to investigate in Beverly Hills a know Arts Dealer to seek the cause that Foley's friend stole a German bonded funds that hasn't passed by Customs and then returned to Detroit where Mailtland henchmen killed Foley's friend and he miracled stays alive.
He seeks revenge to the guys that killed his friend and goes to LA to investigate the turb issue.
Murphy's gesticulate and talking is superb and quite funny and Reinhold and Ashton parts are also brilliant as the good/bad cop. This movie was also the most top grosser of all time for Paramount studios and also get the standard for cops comedies. I'll give 5 stars that include the DVd presentation its contents and extras and the sound and image quality.

Review: Hilarious and thrilling at the same time. Outstanding prefromances by all of the cast, but even better preformances by Reinhold and Murphy. A Detroit cop is investigating his friends death in Beverly Hills, and runs into some strange and hilarous situations. Never boring. Will keep you enjoyed the whole way through.
