Summary: HIGGINS BEST WORK, WELL DONE
Review: This is one terrific cast in one exciting story. Many may complain that it is unrealistic or the ending is too contrived, yet I challange any producer,director, or author, in present day HOLLYWOOD to do any better than this. Action, adventure, espionage, even some romance, this will take you back to the golden age of entertainment. This movie rates favorably with the "GUNS OF NAVARONE", which is an excellent film in it's own right. I particularly enjoyed DUVALL's and CAINE's performances. Higgins must be proud of this interpretation of his finest novel.

Summary: My worst DVD in a collection of 200 DVD's
Review: This is the worst DVD ever produced- the visual quality is beyond poor- its blurry grainy awful to watch and the sound sucks also.
To top all of that off the movie is terrible, really really bad, and the acting stinks. This was probably pulled from the theatres the week it was released- I bought this as part of the 2-pack with Hamburger Hill, but this movie sucks and I gave it away the next day.

Review: This movie is a first rate action film. It's high adventure and great story telling all the way. My only disappointment is that Amazon says it is "Anamorphic Widescreen" and it is NOT. The picture is grainy and not clean. Sound quality is good, however. It would be a five star DVD otherwise.

Summary: Are you kidding me?
Review: This movie was abysmal. I don't understand how anyone could possibly rate it over two stars. The acting was ridiculous, it is amazing that Robert Duvall lent his name to the film. The cinematography was terrible. The plot also seemed thoughtless, although, having not read the book, I cannot attest to its faithfulness. It seemed as though the producers spent the movie's entire budget on payroll, as the props, writing, etc. were all very shabby. Overall, it is hard to even watch the movie all the way through.

Summary: Above average adaptation of Jack Higgins's book
Review: This version of the Jack Higgins book isn't bad. Fine performances by a varied cast: including, a steely-eyed Michael Caine; a cocky Donald Sutherland; a mysterious Robert Duvall, and the alway eerie Donald Pleasance, as well as a "nasty" turn by Jean Marsh, as a sympathetic villager. Judy Geeson and Jenny Agutter provide a little beauty amongst the "beasts", i.e., the Germans. The "American style" salutes seem out of place, by those playing Germans, e.g., Caine, as opposed to the "heil" salutes. [My tape was marred a little by some "garbled" sound at the end, I'll have to see if there is a DVD version.] I would say that it wasn't bad. There's also an interesting turn by Larry Hagman, of all people, as a "gung ho" American who's attempt to "see action" before he goes home to a "desk job" only gets him killed.

Summary: It was easy rooting for the Germans!
Review: This was an excellent adaption of Jack Higgin's book by the same name. The all-star cast--including Caine, Duvall, Agutter, and Sutherland--make the war-time epic very believable and watchable. Not only does the director have you cheering on the Allies in their attempt to stop the assassination of Winston Churchill, the director shows the viewer that many German soldiers during the war were just that--soldiers. They were people, too. If you like war films with Richard Burton or Clint Eastwood, this film is one even better!
