Summary: Deja vu
Review: Yeah, it's an OK film, but there's nothing new in it at all. Willis plays the role of a gritty, tough cop who wins out in the end. Die Hard? I just felt as though I was watching a movie that I'd seen before, and that we the first time I saw it. Brucie is getting a bit long in the tooth for all this too. He threw off his role as a perpetual 13 year old to become a manic depressive - well, at least, that's thae way he looks in all his recent movies. The smile has gone! Easy watching but not worth buying. Wish I hadn't!

Summary: Bruce Willis' preface to 'the Sixth Sense'.
Review: The actual rank I give this film is 3.5 stars.

If you have a chance to watch this movie and time is not rushing your way - do it. It can all be summed up to a harmless action 'flick' , that offers the viewer a couple of hours with the old Willis' McLain we all know all to well from the 'Diehard' trilogy . In addition to that , you find a kind of routine man plus kid getaway from the bad guys thriller , which is enriched with a secondary interesting (though superficial) dramatization of the autism's syndrome .

The matching of Willis with the child works quite well . My hunch is that this role had turned Night Shyamalan's attention to Willis , this attention ended up in a collaboration that was concluded in Willis' biggest blockbuster to date . This point of view makes the film more interesting , because you get a chance to watch Willis making his first steps in an uncharted territory for him . Eventually this journey brought him also the role in 'Disney's the kid' and of course in 'Unbreakable' , so it's pretty nice to see another brick in his developing career .

Aside from that , the movie is vastly flawed and has lots of holes in the script and plot . I recommend a good and through review of a Canadian writer , that wrote one of the first reviews about this movie and really pointed out all the defects this product has , in a funny and humorous manner . Nevertheless , for an entertaining movie that doesn't take itself too seriously these are bearable defects you can live with . Sit down , take it easy , enter a somewhat fictitious reality and enjoy 'Mercury Rising' .

Summary: Very Good - Not Quite Excellent
Review: This movie is a story of an autistic child that is in danger, and the only one who can save him is Bruce Willis's character. It isn't an original story, but is told fairly well. Some parts could be improved upon because they lack believablity, but at the end you don't feel cheated.

I personally feel that 4 stars is about right, because this movie isn't of the caliber of "Sixth Sense."

Summary: Decent Film
Review: Good film. It draws the viewer's interest and doesn't let go. The only improvement that would have made it a superior film would be if Bruce Willis's character had spent more time with the child.

Summary: Joel Storchan
Review: Mercury Rising was the first movie, that I can recall in which Bruce Willis is actually playing a serious character who is not just shooting bad guys. I was delighted by the concept and the folding story of this autistic savant youth placed into a action packed adventure. Bruce is showing that he can deeply care for his fellow man. Which, in itself, is unusual for this actor in the past. I enjoyed the development of the characters and the believable heartlessness of the government bureaucrat. I was intrigued by the trusting nature of the programmers, yet they were typical geeks who do their job but don't understand the political side of what they do. I like the photography, the story, the actions, the bad guys, the good guys and the drama. I give this a three star rating, it was a good time watching the movie. Oh, don't forget the popcorn.

Summary: Not that bad, not that bad.
Review: The story is not the smartest thing ever, but it's ok.

I prefer this to The Jackal, but never against one of the Die Hard movies or his latest teamings with M. Night Shyamalan. There are some decent action scenes and the story is average, nothing spectacular.

Summary: So very very bad
Review: Let me just say first that I forgive Bruce Willis very easily when he makes a bad movie. And this IS a bad movie. Make that VERY bad. There is no suspense, originality. Even the kid is annoying. If it had been a little girl maybe it could have been better. Even John Barry's musical score is bad. If you want to see a GOOD Bruce Willis movie buy LAST MAN STANDING. The only reason this movie is in my house is because my girlfriend likes it.

The DVD is in Dolby 5.1 and is anamorphically enhanced at 2.35:1.

Summary: Very watchable- at least to me
Review: Like one other reviewer, I too feel that the directors should be given credit for dealing with a rather sensitive issue ie autism. Miko Hughes I think did a wonderful job portraying Simon, who is an autistic savant. I think his acting was real and yet not overdramatic. For me, the best part of the movie IS "Simon". However, the movie itself is watchable as a whole. OK, so it may not be 100% realistic and there may be "gaps" as someone mentioned. But to me, that's really ok as these inadequacies can be overlooked. Unless you're one of those people who only like watching movies for the artistic or "intellectual" quality, Mercury Rising is great!

Summary: Don't believe the editorial review
Review: Amazon.com's editorial reveiws usually hit the target, but not this time. Anyone who has spent time with autistic kids or adults won't find the movies as "dumb" as the reviewer states. Sure, not all people with autism are savants, as the movie seems to imply. But that aside, Miko Hughes puts in a very believable performace -- easily as good as Dustin Hoffman in "Rain Man." Perhaps it's not fair to plead special interests, but the people who made this movie clearly put a lot of thought and study into dealing with a difficult topic, and they deserve credit for it. I was frankly offended by the reviewer's failure to appreciate this aspect of the movie, and I think that most intelligent viewers who are interested in more than just a simple action movie will share my opinion. 4 stars for the movie; 1 star for your insensitive reviewer!
