Review: Is the first "Lethal Weapon" a better movie? Yes. Is the sequel more fun? Big time.Blasting out of the gate with a car-chase opening (a dual pursuit, no less), "Lethal Weapon 2" never lets your attention wane. Even scenes without high-octane action are packed full of humorous punchlines, and true "buddy movie" chemistry. The plot, involving ruthless South African drug dealers hiding behind diplomatic immunity, mainly serves as an excuse to shoot lots of bad guys, and knock over stilt-houses. This may sound like a criticism. Believe me, it's praise. By the way, it turns out that Riggs has a rather personal connection to this band of thugs... The tone of "Lethal Weapon 2" is much lighter than the orginal's. We put aside Riggs' emotional trauma, and set him up for more good-natured insanity. He's still a lunatic, but he's no longer a morose psychopath. The bond between he and Murtaugh is captured perfectly, particularly in one scene involving a booby-trapped toilet. Joe Pesci contributes some great stuff as the annoying Leo Getz, but it's Ed Murphy (played by Steve Kahan) who deserves some attention. He's introduced in the original, but this film establishes him as the cantankerous, F-bomb-dropping captain who has to put up with Riggs and Murtaugh's constant shenanigans. This DVD version contains some forgettable extra footage. Doesn't detract from this movie in the least! Bullets, explosions, Patsy Kensit, and a nail-gun. What's not to like?

Review: It's been two years since we were with the dual. Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh are back, and with even more kicks and laughter. It has some very funny scences, including a toliet and condom one you just have to see. The two are assinged to protect a witness, (Joe Pesci). How are they going to keep themselves and him alive?

stands well in the test of time dept. This time around the boys are up against crooked burrecrats from South Africa hiding behind "Diplomatic Immunity" to Bring in shipment of heroin. And
at the same time babysiting a loudmouth witness for the state.
Mel Gibson is more lethal then ever. A lot of action try to copy the moves, gunfire and it never seems to pay as well as it did in
the Lethal Weapon series

Review: LETHAL WEAPON 2 is Director and Co-Producer Richard Donner's worst movie--until Joe Pesci saves the day!!! Richard Donner has had an amazing career, with lots of successful movies that made a lot money and are pretty good art, too, like SUPERMAN:THE MOVIE, and THE OMEN, and his first LETHAL WEAPON movie was the proverbial tough act to follow, but LETHAL WEAPON 2 is awful until Joe Pesci steals the show! I don't know what Joe Pesci's got in LETHAL WEAPON 2--he doesn't have it in LETHAL WEAPON 4--but in this movie he's funny, he's clever, and he's a likable third wheel for Mel Gibson and Danny Glover as they return to their roles as policemen Riggs and Murtaugh, with Pesci as a federal witness for them to protect, and you can guess where things go from there! This time the villains aren't mercenaries, they're South Africans making counterfeit money, and one of the film's best lines is when Pesci brings Glover into the South African Embassy where an Afrikaner informs him, "But...but...you're black!!!" But when Pesci's not in the scenes, there's just none of the fire of the first movie, and instead of the nonstop action of LETHAL WEAPON we're left with scenes like Gibson spending quality time at the Murtaugh's house chopping vegetables and nonchalantly talking about the death of his wife, a major part of his character in the first movie. Maybe by LETHAL WEAPON 2 Gibson and Glover are simply tired of playing the roles, because they just don't have any of the magic of their first movie together, but when Joe Pesci's in the game, one thing's for sure:LETHAL WEAPON 2 IS JOE PESCI'S BEST MOVIE!!! Summary: DANGEROUS!
Review: Lethal Weapon 2 is the sequel to the successful action film LETHAL WEAPON (1987). LETHAL WEAPON 2 brings back America's favorite cops, Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh. This time around they have a new assignment, Leo Getz (Joe Pesci). The very entertaining sequel lives up to its predecessor and its name. Riggs is no longer suicidal, but very wild and has almost healed from the tragic death of his wife, whom he will never forget. Murtaugh the family man is also still there and now he has another reason to be protective of his children, which is his daughter, Rianne's commercial debut. Both men are back in action and I think this film as well as the next two sequels prove very well that Riggs and Murtaugh are not too old for this [stuff]!

Summary: A LOT MORE LETHAL
Review: Mel Gibson and Danny Glover are probably the best "buddy" film duo in action films. Their on screen chemistry lights up the screen and they are truly gifted actors to take these roles and elevate them to not only good action heroes, but good actors as well. Director Richard Donner is back in this second film, and the action starts out fast and furious with an incredible multi-car chase and never lets up. Gibson is as "stressed" as ever, although he seems to have channeled it better, until a key plot revelation about his wife's death turns him into a walking timebomb.
This sequel is harsher than the original, with a lot of carnage and much of the action towards the end borders on cruel retribution. A lot of the policemen bite the dust, without telling too much Riggs' newest love interest doesn't last too long, and Gibson meets Derrick O'Connor in a vicious showdown in which Mel doesn't come out too well.
However, this is what action movies are all about and the film is a blistering, adrenaline pumped winner. Joss Ackland is maliciously repugnant as the South African diplomat; Derrick O'Connor ranks up there with the nastiest of James Bond villains, and the irascible Joe Pesci is brilliant as the protected witness our boys are assigned to protect.
A top notch entry in the series, but be warned---this one isn't pretty.

Review: My all time favorite action movie. Nothing else even comes close in terms of action and comedy. Gibson and Glover are outrageous as goofball cops Riggs and Murtaugh and Joe Pesci adds another element of wackiness. Tremendous action also.....a must see!!!. Go get it!!!

Summary: Can Sequels be as Good as the 1st?
Review: Of course sequels can be as good as the first, but it is very, very rare. Not in this instance. The 1st movie was much, more serious that the 2nd, but that left more room for the 2nd to be more commical. I loved this movie, and the writers didn't stray too far from the original style of the first movie by giving it a lighter feel. It is still action packed, and full of suspense. The characters were developed more fully, but remained easy to relate to. A must watch for Mel Gibson lovers and Danny Glover fans.

Summary: Illogical and brutal, but worst of all-- not funny
Review: Pure manipulation without a shred of logic or genuine fun. It starts out as a good-natured buddy film and it would have been easier to take had it continued in that vein. However, about two-thirds through the film, director Richard Donner apparently felt that it was time for the audience to stop having fun and start feeling a sense of menace. He tries to accomplish this by brutalizing and murdering nearly the entire supporting cast of laughing, fun-loving cops who we are supposed to have bonded with because we've seen them playing poker together and sharing jokes about condoms. The introduction of Joe Pesci's character makes no sense at all. Why would city cops be used to protect a government witness? Especially two such notorious loose cannons as Riggs and Murtaugh? And why would he be allowed to remain in their custody given the extremely careless job they do of "protecting" him? Because the script says so, that's why. I don't necessarily mind it when comedies play fast and loose with logical motivation, or when action films display a bit of a cruel streak. "Lethal Weapon 2," however, is an extremely clumsy mixture of the two.
