Summary: I should have listened to the Okie
Review: Saw this video on a bargain rack somewhere in Oklahoma. The basis of my decision to buy it was that the cover said it had Margaret Cho and the guy who played Peter on the Brady Bunch in it. That and the girl on the cover looked pretty cute. The sleeve tried to present it as a comedy, but there was absolutely nothing funny about this movie. In fact, there was absolutely nothing good about this movie. The store clerk said he found the movie to be disturbing, and it wasn't good at all, and told me to tell him what I thought about it next time I was in the store. My answer: I'll bet you liked it better than I did. Maybe I'm a redneck who can't relate to this movie, but that's fine by me. If there is one Iota of reality in this movie, I don't want anything to do with it. An absolutely deplorable movie. One star is too many.

Summary: dissapointment
Review: I bought this movie based off a few reviews i read..., man was I really dissapointed. This mvie was a poor man's Natural Born Killers, Oliver Stone has nothing to fear with this movie. I am a Rose Mcgowan fan, however seeing her naked was not enuff to save this movie. Rent it first or check for an auction bargain...!

Summary: Frightening...but...true...somehow...
Review: I first heard of Gregg Araki through the trailer for "Nowhere." I saw that movie and thought it one of the gutsiest films I'd seen in a long time. Then I heard that it was the third in a trilogy of teen angst apocalyptic anarchy, including "Totally F**ked Up," and this film. "The Doom Generation" is even more difficult to watch than "Nowhere" was. Araki's penchant for using obviously half-assed teen language that is so outdated it's beyond humorous...which is the best reason to laugh at it, is only amplified by the extensive cussing. Also extensive in this movie is the sex and violence, both of which are VERY abundant. From a quicki-mart owner's head getting blown off (sorry for the spoiler) to stabbings to getting beat up by gang members (played by the members of the late industrial band Skinny Puppy) to the shocking and saddening climax, this movie is a bloodfest that could rival the "Evil Dead" movies. The sex...well, in Rose McGowan's first starring role, this movie makes it clear that she has to be a screwed up person to begin with just to be involved in a movie like this (and to think...with this as her first movie, some people were surprised that she would become Mrs. Marilyn Manson). Her depravity as a person goes beyond being a slut, but even to a sense of self-denial and hypocrisy, a condition that is worsened by the fact that everybody else in the movie thinks that she's someone they once knew who left them...and in return they must kill her. Was she? Maybe. It's beside the point, and yes this movie DOES have a point. And it's a little more than conveying the idea that this world we live in is a literal hell, as is told by the 666 and Hell references that are so blatant and obvious, they also add to the humor. However, this movie has no laughs. Not that that's a bad thing, but it has almost no moments of light-heartedness. It grabs you by the head and gouges your eyes from beginning to end. The unrated director's cut is apparently a far superior version (I'm sorry to say I haven't seen it yet, but I hear that the climax is extended and the brutality of it is not only deafeningly saddening but also essential to the subtle point this film tries to make). A great soundtrack also adds to the gloom and eeriness of the movie. Not for the weak-stomached, and certainly not a movie for those who don't know how to think (you don't know who you are but I'll give you a hint...you liked Armageddon and thought it was the most beautiful and emotional film ever made...). Even for people who do like to think...this movie is painful. It will hurt. Physically, it will make you sick, but if you can deal with its over-the-top dialogue, it's bland acting, it's unnecessary but still compelling sex and gore, and the fact that it reveals an underside to this world that is blackened by our own demons, then you just enjoy that twisting sensation in your gut when you finally feel like you're ready to puke by the end of the film.

Summary: DOOM GENERATION - seen by a normal guy
Review: First of all I like Independent Movies, no, not the like of Independence Day or the Patriot. This movie is worth watching once in a lifetime, but if have just time in your life watching one indie flick, please choose Six String Samurai. I mean if you are a fan of Rose McGowan, or just want to see her naked, go for it, this your movie. Besides countless sex scenes this movie also offers very naughty violence. Some of it is really too much. I saw the DVD, the picture is in full screen, quite ok. The sound volume sometimes changes. Special features are spanish subtitles, the trailer and 3 additional trailers to other valuable Trimark movies. I baught it, now I am gonna sell it. If you are open minded, watch it..

Summary: Well someone finally had to come out with the truth....
Review: I just recently became a fan of these "indie" films..when I first rented this movie I told my friends it was like KIDS ( by Larry Clark if you wanna check it out) on crack! Oh boy they didn't disagree. For us, over-hormoned, oblivious, and vaugely understanding the burried message 15 yr olds, it was pretty cool! But honestly I couldn't dish out any gripping adjectives to you, to speak for the movie, let the other guys do it for ya. This movie captures the heart of our somber "doom generation." but trust me, it's not too depressing, leave it to the director to splash in some humor and maybe a little hope. but anyways get it! It's definitly worth popping in the video, sitting down on the couch and trying to make sense of whatever message Araki's making...oh and what's with everyone thinking they know that lovable character Amy Blue too?

Summary: The Road trip NBK wanted to be
Review: Doom generation has been called Heathers on Acid, well while that may get the studio folks all hot and lathered and while it does dip from the same pool This film is alltogether a different beast. And Beast is indeed the word here. From afar this looks like a quirky edgy black comedy told with style points to burn, but this movie has CLAWS. Yeas I have a penchance for the postmodern and this film is WAY up there on my self-referential humor list but unlike every other movie that takes the Surreal-Art-Road-Trip movie route (See Oliver Stones's Natural Born Killers) this one lavishes as much emotion on the costs of living that life as the glories of it. Yeas this movie is rude, lusty, violent and hurtful, yeas this film created the force of nature that is Rose McGowan but more than that is that this movie is as true to the 90s as SE7EN was but in VERY different ways

Summary: So bad it's good...sort of
Review: This one reminds me of old John Waters and Ed Wood movies, but with a 90's nihilst tint to it. Fortunately, I'm a big fan of those two directors, so I found this one to be highly entertaining, although not very well made. Bad acting and poorly written dialogue (intentional, I hope) coalesce with a very violent and psychotic atmosphere to create something that is definately unique. It's some sort of statement, but I'm not quite sure what that statement is exactly.

Summary: Wow
Review: Clumsy performances and dialogue (ala Clerks) only fuel the satire and poignancy of this wonderful piece. The images throughout the film are visually absurd but perfect! This one isn't for the faint of heart and may leave a bitter taste in the viewer's mouth afterwards but a definite must see. My only criticism was in regards to the dvd which was not presented in widescreen(bummer!) This movie is biting, sexy, funny, sweet and scary all at the same time.

Summary: GOOD GOD!
Review: Shocking, disturbing, sensual, with cinematography from god... what more could you ask for in a movie? Gregg Araki is a genius. This is one of those movies you can watch over and over again and find new stuff in it each time. This is a must see before you die!
