Summary: Unexpectedly Great Movie, Frusturating-ly Bad Press
Review: I seriously don't understand why all the bad press reviews! I've seen movies much worse than this (i.e. black knight) get higher ratings! What is up with that?Anyway, to the point, this is a GREAT movie; much better than I originally anticipated: the teaser is somewhat misleading (and the dream sequence where the dogs do talk was integrated perfectly and does not pull you out of the pseudo-reality of the movie). I don't understand all the criticism of Cuba Gooding either: may be not his best performance, but I thought it was very very convincing. In short, despite low intial expectations (regarding particulary the talking dog trailer), I was very pleased with this movie: it is not a waste of 90 mins. I would recommend seeing it and I personally plan to purchase this on DVD. I gave this movie 4(.5) out of 5 stars because although it is a good movie, only the best can earn a 5 rating (like the Matrix or Shrek).

Summary: Romance-Comedy in all it's glory
Review: This movie is defianately worth taking the whole family to watch. There were very few "slow" areas of the movie (that causes the fidgeting of little feet). Great performances and characters that you will love. The dogs added that pet appeal and made the children (and myself) laugh constantly. I am buying this one on DVD.

Summary: good for the family
Review: Cuba Gooding Jr. plays successful Florida Dentist, Ted Brooks. Ted grew up in the business, learning from, and eventually inheriting the business that his father started. Ted has grown the business beyond belief and is assisted by a younger dentist, played by Sisqo, and even frequently finds his mother, played by Nichelle Nichols from the original Star Trek.
Ted's life is brought to a crashing halt the day he is handed a summons to appear in Alaska for the reading of his birth mother's will. Since Ted was unaware of his adoptive status he begins to question everything about his life and heads to the remote Alaskan town.
There he finds that he has inherited his mother's land as well as her prize-winning dog team. The team seems to have a mind of it's own though with personalities thrown in all over the blaze. Ted's actual first meeting with the dogs ends with his parka in shreds all around the house.
Ted begins his attempts to win the trust of the team as well as interacting with the quirky town characters. He meets total resistance from all as to the identity of his birth-father but does begin a friendly relationship with the town bartender and a somewhat rancorous relationship with the town recluse Thunder Jack, played by James Coburn, who only wants to buy the dogs at a discount price.
Ted eventually begins to learn the art of mushing as well as finds the identity of his birth-father and starts a relationship of sorts with him.
Brian Levant directs the stereotypical fish-out-of-water story here with ease. Ted is the hotshot, sports-car driving Florida Dentist. All his life he has been surrounded by family, beaches, and sun. Now he is trying to figure out about a family he never knew as well as handle the sudden exposure to mountains, snow, and a sled team of spirited dogs. He is struck by the amazing beauty as well as the solitude of the area and it
conveys to the audience.
The story is, as I mentioned, stereotypical from start to finish. However, the actors involved make it succeed. Cuba Gooding Jr. basically plays the movie for laughs the entire time with occasional bits of drama. Most of the time he is prat-falling, shrieking, or trying to win over the dogs. James Coburn is stoically imposing throughout and yet still manages
to show a sense of tenderness.
The dogs are hysterical. Outside of one dream sequence, they basically communicate through looks and actions. The two principle dogs are Nana, desperate for attention and the possibility of racing with the team, and Demon, who is intent on making Ted's life a living Hell until Ted convince Demon who the alpha of the pack really is.
Kids are going to love this movie and there are enough comic moments that adults will be able to sit through it. The scenery is definitely worthy of another trip to Alaska, the actors obviously are having fun with it, and the adoptive storyline may strike a chord in some.

Summary: Fun Movie to See
Review: This is a fun movie for adults and kids that includes little violence, no swearing and no sex! The humor is straight forward. The dogs are cute and they earned their 3000 pounds of dog food doing the movie. The story of a man living in Florida who finds out that he was adopted when his real mother dies and leaves him a bit of an inheritence is well done. The scenery of Alaska actually shows how beautiful Alaska is. Nichelle Nichols does a terrific job of playing Cuba Goodings adopted Mom in a comedic role. Cuba Goodings carries off his part beautifully, his facial expressions throughout the movie intensify the comedy. If you are looking for some fun and humor, I highly recommend this to you and your children!

Summary: A Great Family Movie
Review: I took my kids on a "teachers' workday" because I promised, I was tired from my own job, grumpy and in no mood for a movie. Instead of grumbling though it as I had expected, I was laughing and engaged in the various character's situations and problems. The characters are fun, the settings are fabulous....Miami and "Alaska" both come off looking great... The acting was fine, lots of slipping on ice and falling in snow, physical comedy done very well. The dogs were great, very believable. My kids loved it. I loved it. Now, there is only one scene where the dogs talk (in a dream sequence) so if you are looking for "Babe" you'll be disappointed. The main characters are human... But I enjoyed the story of characters trying to adjust to situations that life has unexpectedly thrown at them, and the dogs learn some lessons as well. Just an all around great family movie...nothing too scary, no "bad language" just plain fun. I will probably see it again, and the last time I went to see a movie for a second time was in 1981.

Review: This movie was great with dogs and people acting as one.The people who made it had a great idea for having some dogs as the stars.Usually the animal movies are pretty good but this is one of the best. Because it is so hysterical I think that it would be a great video for all audiences.

Summary: Nothing like the preview
Review: The movie preview shows talking dogs with the song "Who let the dogs out" in the background, two things that send my 2 1/2 year old into uncontrollable laughter. There was a dream sequence where the dogs talk for about a minute and a half and at no point did I hear the Baha Men. My daughter did not mind, as a parent I felt the trailer was misleading. The story is for young kids and up, not really for toddlers. Had I known what the movie is really about I would not have paid to see it!

Summary: Don't let the commercials fool you...
Review: Sorry, I felt mis led on this one. I went with my daughters expecting a movie about "snow dogs." What I got was "dentist goes to find his father with some dogs in the background." Bad movie? No. Snow Dogs? No. With the whole dental theme, it could have been called "Mush Mouth." The commericials seem to try to sell the cute antics of the dogs, such as was the gimick of the "Babe" series. No talking dogs here. My kids enjoyed most of the movie- but at best it is was a direct-to-video product. I left the theater wishing I could have gotten my money back. There is an interesting cameo appearance by Christopher Judge of the "Stargate" series as the father of the young dentist. Good to see that artist outside of the sci-fi genre. Cuba does well with physical comedy and it was fun to see James Coburn in a role that almost parodies his past film credits. Well worth seeing...once it comes out on video.

Summary: No, it wasn't Citizen Kane......
Review: ...but "Snow Dogs was wonderfully fun. What a shame that we're all so extremely 'on-the-edge' that our entertainment has to push envelopes, produce mind-blowing action and special effects, explore the heinous, the unspeakable or the grotesque, or take an unflinching look at an unexplored social ail to be considered worthy. "Snow Dogs" does none of the above, so all you cultural watch dogs can stay home. For the rest of you who aren't afraid to enjoy something that's not trendy or twisted, go laugh at Cuba Gooding and his dogs. It's Disney and it's sweet.
