Summary: It's not in stereo!!!!
Review: I can't believe this classic movie, with pretty good features, is not in stereo! And this is not [an inexpensive] DVD. I know people (myself included), that have the soundtrack to this movie, specifically because of the powerful music. Not to hear it in stereo, with the many great moments of warriors entering battle, is like someone taking candy from a baby. I did enjoy listening to Arnold and John Millius commentating, but how could I overlook the "mono" sound?

Review: Of all the movies I could have picked - this was my first DVD purchase. I am a huge fan of Arnold's and this is a classic! You won't be disappointed - romance, action & a plot ... it's all there but mainly it's Arnold!!

Summary: Excellent... but
Review: Excellent seeing the widescreen version again in such a beautiful state!Unfortunately the sound is mono and pretty "tinny". Shame really - needs "beefing up" soundwise to compliment the new restoration. I think they should have had both options.

Summary: Good DVD- Great Fantasy.
Review: Arnold Schwartzenger's big public debut took the fantasy cinema by storm by this 1982 Classic Fantasy. The story deals with a Barbarian named " Conan" who gets revenge on the creeps who killed his family, really exciting, Amazing and all around Bloody. Recommendations: The Dark Crystal, Ninja Scroll, Heavy Metal, Big Trouble in little China, Evil Dead and The Matrix.

Summary: One of Arnold's GREATEST movies
Review: This movie was very early in Arnold Schwarzenegger's career. He does not speak much in this film, and he doesnt need to. In this excellent fantasy movie, actions speak a hell of alot louder than words. Intense fight scenes and some instances of well-timed comic-releif, this movie will keep you interested until the very end. The portrayal of 'Conan' cannot be filled by anyone else but Arnold himself. Filmed while he was in his prime, Arnold is in great shape and his stunts and actions are all executed with perfect fluidity by the man himself! And, all Arnold fans are expecting it, and you will not be disappointed. This movie is JAM-PACKED with the classic Arnold grunts and groans, oohs and aahs, yells and screams and funny faces. A great plot keeps you involved with Conan and his quest to find the man who killed his family and made him a slave, superbly portrayed by James Earl Jones. Lots of blood and sexual content. Not for the kids. A great movie overall, a landmark in Arnold's career.

Summary: Definitely a Collector's Item
Review: Universal Home Video continues their fine tradition of "Collector's Editions" with "Conan the Barbarian". The film is presented in an anamorphic widescreen and is letterboxed at 2.35:1. It should also be noted that this is an extended version of the film and contains some ten minutes of footage that weren't available in the theatrical release. The film looks great as the picture is very crisp and clear. The digital transfer does reveal some minor defects on the source print and some slight grain, but these defects are negligible, and the overall quality of the transfer is substantially better than that of the previous DVD release. The letterboxing appears to be accurate, as the image doesn't appear to be squeezed. The colors appear accurate for the most part, although things do seem a bit washed out at times. The only drawback to the technical presentation of the film is the audio. "Conan the Barbarian" features a Dolby Digital Mono soundtrack, which just doesn't live up to the clarity of the video presentation or the magnitude of the onscreen action. One can't help but wonder why Universal didn't attempt some sort of stereo remix for this edition. While the sound is adequate, the battle scenes and the film's score by Basil Poledouris in particular, would've sounded great in Dolby Digital 5.1 or even as a DTS presentation.

Review: ROBERT E. HOWARD WOULD COMMIT SUICIDE AGAIN IF HE SAW THE DESECRATION DONE TO HIS BEAUTIFUL CREATION. Listen up, bad-tasted reviewers, this is L. SPRAGUE DE CAMP'S Conan, NOT Robert E. Howard's. If you were to put REH's Conan against LSDC's Conan, guess who would win? REH's Conan would tear LSDC's Conan to little pieces with little effort. This movie is dreadful. If the producers knew anything, they would have made THE HOUR OF THE DRAGON by Robert E. Howard into a movie instead of this dumb piece of garbage written by a PASTICHE author. The woman in the movie is UGLY. If you claim to have read ANY Robert E. Howard at all (and I'm not talking about Robert E. Howard FINISHED by L. Sprague) then you know that the REAL CONAN likes BEAUTIFUL women. Not rough and tumble barbarians like himself. The dialogue is dreadful, as is the storyline. From what I gather from REH, Conan's past was FAR more difficult than just pushing a wooden beam around in circles, sleeping with women, and killing men in an arena. Officially, this movie only got 2 and half stars, which is FAR more than it deserves. I give it one star.

Summary: My fave flick
Review: Conan the Barbarian is my favorite movie of all time. I'm not really sure why, it just is. I loved the Spanish wildnerness it was filmed in and of course I can't get enough of Schwarzenegger. The story was really gripping, starting with the ransacking of Conan's village by the raiding Vanir when he was a boy. Then he had to push a grain making wheel for 15 years and then was a pit fighter. I also loved the battle scenes because Conan was fearless and did what had to be done.

Review: CONAN THE BARBARIAN: okay, okay...guilty pleasures; lots of swordplay back when men were men; cool special effects and a sense of mystery and wonder in this fantasy world. And ARNOLD swinging a big sword around; what a guy, what a guy...do the FLEX!
