Summary: Nothing like expected
Review: Considering this is a spin off or prelude to the mummy films, there is absolutely NO comparison. Basically the movie features Dwayne Johnston (Aka "The Rock") Running around being Mr. Big Tough ancient guy. The film is nowhere near the collosal event that was the Mummy. If you are a big "Rock Fan" you'll probably like it soley for the fact that it's his big movie. Other then that, it's really not a run out and see it kind of movie. Wait until it's out on cable and save yourself some money!

Review: The Mummy and the Mummy Returns, both excellent movies should not be associated with this movie. Scorpion King is a movie which I by mistake bought, I would not consider to watch this movie again, not even if they paid me to do it. Dwayne Johnson should stick to WWF, destroying one movie is hopefully enough.

Summary: Who is the Scorpion King?
Review: I am a fan of the modern Mummy series. I think those films have wonderful visual appeal...just great texture...and great sound. I also find the story lines fun and the characters engaging. These movies are great diversions. So, I purchased the Scorpion King. I knew that the original characters would not be in the movie, but the movie would have to be good because the first two were so much fun. I find the Scorpion King to be very disappointing. I still like the visual texture and the sound quality, but there is no story line of consequence. I ask who the Scorpion King is because I took a look at the deleted scenes available on the DVD and I found that there IS a missing story line. I cannot understand why the story was abandoned. To find the hidden story line and why there is significance to when and where the showdown in this movie takes place, use the "Alternate version in enhanced play mode," found on the DVD. Then you MAY find an answer to, "Who is the Scorpion King," for yourself. It seems not to have anything to do with The Rock eating a scorpion in Mummy 2, or the fact that he is stung by a scorpion in this movie.P.S. The extras on the DVD are fun to view. I especially recommend the segment about animals. The Rock is a camel jockey for real.

Summary: Surprised the heck out of me!
Review: I saw this movie about three hours before I watched the new Star Wars film and, believe it or not, this film is better. Surprised? So was I; I watch this film in a theater that was practically empty, me and 1 other person. Boy that was fun! Boy was this film fun! It was enjoyable from start to finish, not a boring bit in the entire film. This is a great DVD to own since it translates very well to the small screen. "The Rock" did a great job, another surprise. I know it's hard to believe but it's true; watch it for yourself.

Summary: Please don't make a sequel.
Review: Let me start out by saying that I am a wrestling fan, I confess I watch it a lot. Having said that, I can honestly say that this movie is just way over-the-top. From the initial scene where the Rock's arrows make guys do back flips into the wall, I knew what I was in store for.
I got the feeling that a lot of this film was directed at specifically wrestling fans who might buy into the whole "over-acting" routine that the Rock puts out. The same over-acting that the Rock puts into the ring.
But it's not the wrestling ring, fans in the 199th row don't need to see the looks of anguish on his face when he's in the ankle lock. But it didn't seem to stop the Rock from trying to do it in the movie.
So having said my piece, I'll leave with this closing statement. Despite it's implications as a violent film, it's actually not. Most of the acts of actually stabbing and cutting with a sword are only heard and not seen. It's almost as though children viewing this movie was being kept in mind. But then I realized that it must have just been a mistake because Vince McMahon was the producer. And Vince pulls no punches on the WWE show. Violence, blood, lots of trash-talking, and partial nudity are a requirement for WWE shows (Raw or Smackdown). Now you know why I watch wrestling.

Summary: a dvd by its cover
Review: I really wanted to hate this movie. i enjoyed both installments of the MUMMY but dreaded the thought of this spin-off.Nothing intrigued me about this movie before i saw it..(well except for kelly hu)but alas my friends forced me to watch it and i have to say it wasn't that bad. the writing was above average there was plenty of underlying subtelty in the writing that made it interesting enough to pay attention. Now for the less important aspect of the film... the "STAR"....rarely do you find a movie where the actor/actress owns the role some examples HARRISON FORD AS INDIANA JONES/HAN SOLO,VAL KILMER AS DOC HOLIDAY...the list is very small(i mean honestly can YOU think of one movie TOM CRUISE has been in that any decent actor couldn't have played)i bring this up because regardless of my dislike for pro wrestling "the rock" owns this role....obviously he needs to hone his new found carrer but for a first time effort it was a rather impressive performance. so all in all it may be nothing more than i didn't expect anything from this film yet i walked away having been entertained and entertaining the notion of picking up the DVD.

Summary: awesome movie
Review: I still think it's funny when people compare these types of movies to "real" movies like the truman show, gone with the wind, or other types of movies. Those movies had a plot and a good story. These movies don't, but that doesnt stop them from being bad movies. As long as their is an action scene every 5 seconds, then im happy. I wouldn't pay to expect a great story, and stupid action. anywho, action is what u want, and action is what u get when u watch this movie. Their are 6 main action sequences. i'll give a brief summary of the action. 1) Rescue in the mountains - this is one of the better fights, with great "martial arts" (dare i say?), and this is the scene where he uses some awesome Bow and arrow shots. 2) Memnon's Camp - this is a just basically a sword fight with a little bit of fight, nothing too great here, but memorable. 3) City fight - this fight is broken off into 2 parts. One is in the training courtyard where Mathayus get's involved in a bow and arrow fight with the guards. and he get's in a fight with some more guards later. a descent battle 4) Sand storm fight - this starts out good with some crazy action, then it get's slow when they're in the cavern searching for him, but at the end it FINALLY get's better with some good sword battles 5) Balthazar battle - this is a really great battle. Everything from punches , to kicks, to using Bo's and swords to take down the foe' 6) last fight - great fight scene, a lot of death, naturally again, watch this for action, not story

Summary: Scorpion King is awful
Review: Even if you cannot "smell what the Rock is cooking" you can smell this very poorly made movie. The WWF does not translate well to ancient Egypt and this film is little more than WWF in costume. The fights were all WWF, sans metal chairs. The longer the movie ran, the more accutely aware I was that the star of the movie is named "Dwayne" because even his charisma of the ring falls away in the face of his terrible acting. "Acting" here means squint-eyed stare with mouth closed OR wide-eyed stare with mouth open. Do not confuse this movie with the two Mummy films. It's just a poorly done rip-off.

Summary: Action Packed and Plenty of Extras
Review: The DVD release of 'The Scorpion King' is what the DVD format is all about: a movie and plenty of extra features. 'The Scorpion King' score high on both accounts. First, the movie. The Rock, a.k.a. Dwayne Johnson, plays Mathayus, one of the last survivors of a clan of assassins. The movie opens with Mathayus's brother being held captive by another band of cutthroats. Mathayus dutifully rescues him in over-the-top-action style, and wraps up the scene with a nice Scwarzeneggeresque one liner. Then it is on to the prologue, where we learn that Memnon, the greatest known swordsman and played by Steven Brand, leads an army bent on conquering all. At his side is a beautiful sorceress capable of predicting the outcome of any battle. Mathayus is hired by a collection of the few remaining unconquered clans in the land to kill the sorceress and open the way for Memnon's defeat. The movie is a lot of fun. From the action packed start to the all-stakes battle at the finish, it is almost non-stop action with a few breaks for exposition thrown in. One of my favorite scenes involved Mathayus leading a band of Memnon's men into a cave during a sandstorm and then picking them off using traps set up in the cave. It was well done, and allowed the audience to believe that the Rock was playing a character that was more than just another Conan. The Rock does an admirable job as the action hero and assassin. I suppose all his years in the wrestling ring prepared him for the action sequences, but his acting at least is different from that of his personna as the Rock. Try as he might, his down home American accent managed to peak through every once in a while. This movie is in a way a prequel to 'The Mummy Returns' in which Mathayus appears as the 'Scorpion King.' In that movie, the Rock's character appears briefly at the beginning to set up the events that Brendan Frasier and company will explore thousands of years later, and then his character shows up again later in the climatic action scene. This movie does not explain how Mathayus fell, so to speak. In addition, 'The Scorpion King' doesn't rely on mystical aspects as much as 'The Mummy' and its sequel did, even though there is a sorceress present. As mentioned earlier, the DVD has plenty of extras. The producers of the DVD tried to include a little bit of everything. The best feature is the ability to enable alternate scenes. The scenes in themselves don't change the outcome of the story; however, they add a prophecy that had been edited out of the final cut. The prophecy speaks of a new king being crowned when the full moon is in Scorpio, and ties the whole movie together. In fact, if they had left the prophecy in the movie, it would have made more sense and elevated the movie to something more than just an action flick. In addition to the alternate scenes, the extras include 'making of' mini-documentaries on special effects and the use of animals. There are bios on the cast and crew. There is a director's commentary and other 'making of' featurettes. Godsmack's "I Stand Alone", which gets played during the credits, appears as a bonus video. There is even a documentary on the real 'Scorpion King.' The DVD is a considerable value.
