Summary: Rub-a-dub-dub Two Men in a Tub
Review: I once got stuck with nothing to watch in the middle of a mindless job. So I made the mistake of putting this in. (Thank God, I at least wasn't dumb enough to sit down and waist my time in watching it.) Anyway, the movie was a whole bunch of water sloshing around for two hours. Next time I want to do that, I'll get in a hot bath tub and have a slosh fest. The movie could have been summed up like this; the guys went out in boats (cause that's what they do); they got caught in a storm (cause that's what happens in the movies); ...I definitely prefer sloshing in my bath tub because I don't even have to drown at the end of the slosh.

Summary: Amazing documentary
Review: What makes this film so great is how it completely enthralls the viewer in what's taking place. What the editorial for Amazon dismissed as "stoic men, crying women, and a fair amount of 'don't go out into the sea' dialogue" are actually essential plot elements as they give you insight into the lives and relationships of the Gloucester fishermen when they're not doing something which, as book author Sebastian Junger accurately put it, "not because they choose to". Trust me, if you can tolerate a fraction of what you put up with in Titanic, you'll agree that this is a truly astonishing non-fiction account.

Summary: Water-Logged Disaster
Review: Perfect Storm, Imperfect Movie (it's so easy to rip on that title). This is NOT a good movie. I don't care how attractive you think George Clooney is, it is best if you didn't see him in this water-logged disaster of a disaster movie. See "Out of Sight" instead. For starters, the dialogue between him and the other swordfish boat captain, Mary Elizabeth MASTRANTONIO (who was much better as Gina in "Scarface"), is completely laughable, as are the rest of the speeches and banter in the movie.
I have never met a fisherman before, but I'm pretty sure they don't give the kind of speeches that only appear in football movies, the kind where the battered underdogs decide, in the locker room, to come back and whip the well-equipped, black-uniformed team from the big city.
Basically, the movie is one long tease: one or more of the fishermen will find themselves in danger (overboard or getting their toes nearly bit off by a lunging shark), they will get out of it, the crew of the Andrea Gail will cheer themselves hoarse and take on the next wave. This is the entire movie until the last ten minutes. Like the embarrassing "Pearl Harbor," this "historical" movie is an insult to the memories of those who died.
As if beefing up an already weak script, storylines about a lost coast guard have been added (and all the scenes involving the coast guard men and their cool helicopter reads like one long "The Coast Guard: Be All You Can Be" commercial), as well as a tiny sailboat piloted by Bob GUNTON (who, interestingly enough, plays the Captain in the unfunny "Boat Trip").
Yeah, the waves are cool (and the trailers took a lot of advantage of this fact), but don't be fooled or distracted by them: if this movie took place in Lake Michigan, with the same script and the same actors, you'd pick up a good book or organize your sock drawer instead of watching it.

Summary: I really liked it
Review: this is about the story of fisherman that go out far into the ocean to catch more fish. The actors are exremely good at their parts, and the minor actors(Diane Lane and the female captain of the other boat) make it better too
so what are you waiting for? rent the perfect storm

Summary: Original action movie, but far from perfect
Review: All in all, Perfect Storm is a rather entertaining action movie, based on a interesting true story, but there is something wrong, uneasy, and unreal in the atmosphere of the movie. The actors play quite well most of the time, but the scenario is too basic and the intrigue is not very good. The end of the movie is spoilt for several reasons: first the Weather Channel episode kills the suspense with the "special report", and then the actors are really not credible at the end. This is a problem, because in that sort of movie, the end is normally the climax of the story, the best part of it. Also there is another problem, because on several occasions, the movie contains stern moral statements about the fishermen and their family lives; it sometimes seems that the way of life of the fishermen is being tried, which is wrong in the context of that movie, especially because there is a lot of criticism, but not many constructive propositions. Finally I did not appreciate the depiction of the atmosphere in the ship's crew - the relatonships between people are tense, rather aggressive, so where is the legendary camaraderie of sailors ?? At one moment it gets even worse as one of the sailors is a blackman.

Summary: A modern classic!!!
Review: This is one of the best films so far of the 21st century. The acting is superb. George Clooney should have won awards for this film. This is a great film about man v.s nature, and as usual, nature wins. The supporting actors really add to the film. If you enjoy all around, well made films, then enjoy this movie.

Summary: Exciting, but long
Review: George Clooney stars as Billy, the no-nonsense captain of a Massachusetts swordfish boat. He gets caught in the worst storm of the century. Mark Wahlberg co-stars as his newlywed deckhand who has to leave his wife and mother behind. The crew of the fishing boat is made up of the usual stereotypes (tough-guy-with-a-heart-of-gold, divorced-dad, etc.) and they take turns falling overboard, getting on each other's nerves, and being heroes.

The photography is great, considering the storm scenes were filmed on a sound stage. They look real and are thrilling. The actors are all very good. It's a true story and worthy of a movie.

If the film had stopped there, it would have been a 5-star movie; unfortunately, we get subplots involving a yachting crew also caught in the storm, their rescuers, a freighter, and all the folks the fishermen left behind. These subplots clutter up the film and take so much time, that the movie feels way too long. All we want to see is what happens to the fishermen in the storm; that part is excellent.

Summary: An absorbing and affecting film.
Review: I've seen The Perfect Storm twice, and am still impressed by how entertaining it is - the coast guard risking their lives to help a sailboat's crew, the air force bravely flying into the eye of the storm to help the coast guard, the fishermen helping each other - it is just an incredibly warm and uplifting film. The storm scenes were just thrilling, and I really think the cast was very well-chosen. If they made 10 more movies as unpretentious as this, I'd be at the cinema much more often.

Summary: Halloween Storm.
Review: As a Rockport resident I got a laugh at how warped the picture was.The corny dialogue, the "Crows Nest "sitting on the pier. The saving grace of the movie was the storm. The characters were not believable and more than likey the end ,when the ship sank would not have been so pretty.

Summary: boring
Review: This movie was too long. I thought many scenes were not needed. I like long movies if they keep my attention but every scene after the other didn't seem much different. The waves were cool to look at but I'll never understand the stupidity of the sailors in this movie. I don't know the real story but they must've been insane if they really tried to get back in the midst of 3 storms. I also ust don't really understand fishermen at all. I live in Alaska and I hear of fishermen who die in the Bearing Sea all the time and I just can't understand why anyone would want to be a fisherman, especially up here where it's so dangerous, when there are so many other jobs out there that offer a world of oportunity. That was the main reason why i didn't like this movie. It was also very predictable all throughout. Rent it first. Unless you're a die hard fisherman yourself and you love these kind of movies.
