Summary: Great Movie, needs to be used for History Lesson
Review: Patton was a complex man and no one but George C. Scott could have pulled off the portrayl of Patton like he did. I think that people who have never studied History should watch this movie and see that war is not glorious but a dirty, bloody business. The George Patton Jr. that the public saw was not the Patton that his family knew, he was more complicated than that. The movies has some dirty language, but that was the character of Patton. He felt that the shock factor of his dirty language was important. It is a great movie and should be rated higher than 89 of the best 100 movies, it should be in the top 10

Summary: As we remember George C Scott in his most cherished role
Review: This movie was excellent. The writing, acting and screenplay were all done with such style. Patton was a hero but that was it. He wasn't an honest man. I believe he died in a car crash shortly after the war or something. George C Scott died today and this movie is just one great piece of acting that will forever be a classic.

Summary: Patriotic movie, but filled with vain language
Review: I pretty much agree with all the 5-star comments. However, I rented this movie so that I could use it as a history lesson for my 11 & 15 y/o children. Much to my dismay, Patton's language was filled with using God's name in vain...over and over. Other than the foul language, the movie is suitable as a preteen or teen history lesson. Perhaps I'll think about how I might have the video audio-edited. I enjoyed the production of war action, a visual product (technology) of its time. Had the movie been produced today, the results would probably have been closer to "Saving Private Ryan" and, therefore, would have turned one's stomach. Our family also enjoyed the midcentury furnishings of government offices, typewriters, Moroccan architecture, WW2 tanks, jodhpurs, uniforms, etc. Quite a history lesson....in spite of the number of times "G_d__" was used. Had I been under Patton's command, I would have intensely disliked him, his crass manner, and particularly his ego. I would, however, have followed him to hell and back.

Summary: The greatest movie (and biography) ever made.
Review: Patton doesn't always reflect historically accurate facts, but George C. Scott turns in one of the best perfomances in the history of cinema. He is amazing in the role, and you know that when watching this movie, you're there. This is Patton, that's Bradley, that's Montgomery. This is a hell of a movie. Jerry Goldsmith's score also helps make it what it is... It's really a shame more people these days haven't seen it. One other thing... Patton needs to be on DVD.

Review: An excellent performance by George C. Scott. Karl Malden was also wonderfull, but I wonder how his part might have been played out if Omar Bradley were not an advisor? It is true that Bradley hated Patton, and I wonder if this impacted the movie at all? Oh well, it is still very much worth viewing. I would also recommend the viewer read Carlos D'Estes "Patton: A Genius for War" for an accurate account of who Patton really was (vs the film).

Review: If Patton didn't die after the war he probaly have the command of the Korean War. But George C. Scott has probaly the only one made for the position as Patton. Karl Malden was also great as Gen. Omar N. Bradley.

Summary: My Dad was there!
Review: My Dad was there in the bed beside the famous "slapping" scene. There is much misunderstanding about Patton's actions. At first glance it seemed harsh and uncaring, but Dad, not a cold hearted man said they should have "shot the S.O.B." slapping was too good for him. (Dad was facing amputation of both feet due to frostbite)And just as today the media blew it all out of proportion. My father followed Patton to "Hell and Back" (Audie Murphy movie)And knowing all he went through, would do it again, and again. What a wonderful gift to his children and all the children of our country..."FREEDOM" Dad lived to see the movie and would have given it 5 stars!

Review: ...he won it by making the other son of a bitch die for HIS country!" What a classic aphorism! I do imitations of it in George C. Scott's gravelly bellow. All the classic anecdotes told to us by the WWII generation are here. Patton, the loose cannon field commander who Ike never quite brought into line. Who not even friend Omar Bradley could mellow out. Who even tried to knock down a strafing plane with his sidearm. Who was actually convinced that he was the reincarnation of a great warrior of old. Whose ego struggle with Montgomery wasn't too distant a second behind winning the war itself. Whose slap across the face of a stressed-out soldier got him in hot water (even after all these years, there's STILL no real consensus on that one). "Blood & Guts" Patton, a real-life "Great Santini" with three stars.

Summary: What a jerk!
Review: I can see why this movie made it to the top 100 list. I can also see why it was only 89 on that list. This movie glorifies General Patton as a war hero, which indeed he is, but he is also a selfish, conceded, unforgiving jerk! He doesn't give a second thought about hitting a frightened soldier across the face. And what is so cowardly about the fear of death? And Patton just doesn't learn. He is the same man at the end of the film as he was in the beginning. An extra star for some fine acting on George's part.

Review: The speech in front of the flag brings tears to my eyes every time I see it. Patton knew what it meant to be an American when the chips were down. MacArthur, Patton, Nimitz, Reagan. The 21st century couldn't possibly have men like those.
