Rating: Summary: Great Adrenaline Movie!! Review: If you like this genre, "Cutaway" is a fun action movie with incredible skydiving stunts. I read that Tom Berenger, Maxine Bahns, and Stephen Baldwin did alot of their own stunts which is very cool. It's an entertaining story with a good cast. This is not the greatest movie ever made, but it kept me watching. I definitely want to see it again. I'm surprised it was not in the theatres because I think it would have done well. I really love Maxine Bahns, it was cool to see her in an action movie. If you are reading this Maxine, will you marry me?
Rating: Summary: Love this movie for what it is Review: Let's be honest, nobody's winning an Oscar for this one. But take this movie for what it's worth. The skydiving shots are awesome, there's some good humor (some intentional, some as a direct result of awful acting and screenwriting), and all in all, it's a fun way to blow an hour and a half. As a rookie in the skydiving world, it's entertaining to see Baldwin's learning curve. Cutaway may seem stupid and out of touch to any "wuffos," but skydivers can be assured find it a decent, although probably still kind of stupid, representation of the rush of jumping.
Rating: Summary: Guy Manos' "Director's Comments" about "Cutaway" on DVD. Review: Manos walks an interesting line between hype and facts all through the commentary. He stresses that Stephen Baldwin (Agent Vic Cooper) and Tom Berenger (Red Line) did their own stunts and without actually saying "all their own stunts", certainly implies it. Clearly that's not the case. He also implies that Dennis Rodman (Turbo) does his own stunts as well, but from what I understand from other sources, Rodman never even got near a plane in flight. Manos does admit that he did -some- of the stunts for Red Line when Berenger was "unavailable." Manos' wife, Pam, does the skydiving for Maxine Bahns (Star), the female lead. Manos never fesses up as to who does the more advanced skydiving scenes (head down, swoop pond, ect.) for Baldwin. With the exception of Casper Van Dien (Delmira), those really are the Golden Knights and that's the wind tunnel at Fort Bragg, SC. There are a couple of interesting factoids sprinkled throughout the commentary such as how so and so shot was done, how some of the action sequences were performed and that Marcos A. Ferraez (Ground Rush) was actually a skydiving buddy of Baldwin's before production was even given the green light. However, the really interesting stuff to me was how the script was developed and how some of the scenes and events were based upon Manos' true life experiences. I got the feeling that maybe at some point Manos actually had considered the tandem drug running scheme and he does mention that it had been done a couple of times maybe ten or so years ago to actually help finance a Nationals team.... Manos does explain things about keeping the story, costumes and sport simple enough for the audience to understand yet "real", but he never explains his choice of the "8-way speed star" event. I'm thinking just 2 more people would have made that a lot more "real", but there was probably a budget consideration (23 shooting days x 2 people, costumes, hotel rooms, catering, pack jobs, ect.). To my surprise, there are ALSO comments on yet another audio track from Baldwin and Bahns. I haven't yet fully listened to those, but it's clear from the sample I did listen to that they must have been having a -really- good time, maybe even a little tipsy (maybe a LOT tipsy), when they recorded them. I'll have to fully listen to those in the near future.
Rating: Summary: Thomas Ian Nicholas skydives Review: Poor, low budget flick, and thin plot. But,Thomas Ian Nicholas gives a great performance, even with the limited lines and material he was given. He deserves better. The rest of the cast stinks
Rating: Summary: Decent action film Review: This is watchable action fare which, essentially, is no more than a minor variation on the themes established in films like DropZone and Point Break. There's nothing wrong with that, however, as it's all put together with aplomb. Berenger does look a little pudgy in his jump suit, though. There is nothing new or memorable here but there are worse ways to spend an hour and a half.
Rating: Summary: Guy Manos should die Review: Worst movie ive seen in a while. About as bad as Demolition Man, where there were gay lines like: Black Guy: "I'm a blast from the past!" Stallone: "You should have stayed there!" Rodman should get an Oscar for his part.(sarcastic) He did nothing but try to act tough by staring at Baldwin. I only gave it a star cause I was interested in the skydiving info. The shots were pretty good. I about turned off when there was the part: Girl: "What's in the bag?" Baldwin: "My life. I'm cutting away."
