Summary: Groovy!
Review: This is a great version of this great film, what you get is 96 minutes thats 15 minutes more than the original and although the film quality goes to hell in parts it is still a must have for any true evil dead fan. The stuff they have added in is great and really adds to the entire film, making it better in my opinion. Plus you get a funny as hell commentary track, four never before seen deleted scenes, and the original ending is still there. For what they are asking as a going price, it is worth picking up and hell do what I did and get the other special edition with the making of documentary on it. Great movie = great buy.

Summary: classic horror movie
Review: Army of darkness is an intentionally funny horror movie. The movie is part of the great evil dead trillogy about our hero bruce campell is sent back to miedevil europe. I saw it recentely because one of my friends owns the movie and I have to say that I became a big fun of hte trilogy because of this movie.

Summary: Original ending much better.
Review: First of all, I think it's really stupid that Anchor Bay made Sam Raimi change the name from MediEvil Dead to Army of Darkness. Why they didn't want to link this movie with the Evil Dead series is beyond me. I understand that they wanted it to be more of a comedy-fantasy but the name-change was a mistake. Also, I think the original ending was MUCH more characteristic for Ash because well - he IS a screw-up. Anyway I'm glad the movie became popular enough for them to be able to release this bootleg of the original. The commentary is even different and better than the other DVD commentary.

Summary: good movie, bad translation to dvd
Review: I bought this version hoping that it would incorporate the scenes I had seen on tv that I hadn't seen in the original theatrical version. It delivered on that point, but the quality of these deleted scenes and extended footage was about as good as a tape you had played a hundred times. It was fuzzy as hell. The view goes from clean to poor too often to ignore. I was told this was because this version was taken off of a foreign laserdisk. I would recommend getting the new bootleg version. It's the dvd with the paper cover. In this version the poor image quality problem has been fixed. So in my opinion, steer clear of this dvd and get the bootleg version.

Summary: Classic Camp! An absolute favorite!
Review: I have seen all three movies in the Evil Dead Trilogy and I must say that Army of Darkness is superior to the first two movies. They are gory B- horror flicks with moments of humor and for entertaintment value on a campy evening, they are just the ticket, but Army of Darkness is something more.

Not only is Bruce Campbell a hunk, he has a sense of humor and comedic timing that make this movie great. Whether he's lecturing the heathens from the past about his ' boom stick' or wooing the heroine with his ' gimme some sugar, baby' line, he's perfect in this movie. Of course, he's survived the first two, but he shines in this movie. I don't know if it has to do with the Dino De Laurentis production of this third movie,or the director, but they had the right idea when they put Bruce, his boom stick and Embeth Davidtz together in this movie.

I have seen it at least a dozen times and every time I laugh until I cry. The scene where Ash / Bruce is hiding inside the windmill is hilarious, as is the following scene after the 'seed' he swallowed sprouts!

I had heard that this movie had been translated into a video game and wasn't surprised, because after you see the seige and what Ash / Bruce can do with a high school chemistry text book and his battered Joe Friday land cruiser anything is possible!

This movie is a must have for anyone who loves the horror genre with a humorous twist. Everything about it, from the costuming to the way Ash / Bruce wears his chainsaw and rugged mullet are fantastic. I would suggest getting your video through Amazon, because after the final scene in the movie, I don't know if you'll be able to find it in the video aisle at S-Mart!

Summary: Just as good as the others say it is
Review: This movie is thoroughly enjoyable, with many laugh out loud moments, made even funnier by the fact that it pretends to take itself seriously(it fails in that; try to take it seriously when Bruce tells the knight his shoelaces are untied). I loved every minute of it. DO NOT buy the universal edition of it, that edition has no special features. If you're a huge fan of the original ending, get the standard anchor bay edition. If you want 15 more minutes of AoD, like me, and don't mind having a different ending, get this director's cut edition. P.S. It is not just for horror fans. In fact, it's probably diehard horror freaks that would be MOST insulted by this "horror" film. It's really a comedy.

Summary: A classic movie . . . but this cut [stinks]!
Review: I love Army of Darkness. I waited in line for four hours to see Bruce Campbell's book signing. He autographed my Army of Darkness t-shirt. Theoretically, I should love this DVD. But they cut out the best part! For those who have seen it, I can tell you that the real ending is nowhere on the DVD, replaced by the "original" ending. And when you see it, you will realize why they re-did it. No Bridget Fonda, no "Lady, I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to leave the store." Granted, the Audio commentary is great, which saves this disc from getting one star out of pure spite. But come on. Would it have killed them to include the real ending? Or was this a cynical ploy to force us to buy two copies? Why should I buy this if I have to ALSO buy the real version to get the full effect? Ridiculous. If you are a hardcore AOD fan and want the commentary, buy this. If you want to see it for the first time, get another edition. This one doesn't cut it.

Summary: The best by far...
Review: This DVD is the "Official 'Bootleg' Edition" of the third film in the Evil Dead series. The reason it is "Bootleg" is because it features the closest version intended by the creators of the film. Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell have replaced the ending with the original and many scenes are shorter, while many scenes are much longer. The transfer is the "best it's going to get" as stated by Bruce himself in the commentary. Due to the fact that they had to find the footage that had been cut for the video version. The producers had tossed a lot of this aside to cut the film shorter.

The character of Ash is more prominent and what he goes through is more intense in this cut of the film and any fan of this series and even those who have seen the "producer's cut" as it was released originally will probably find this both entertaining and enlightening.

I feel that this version of the film does as both Raimi and Campbell mention in the commentary: it SETS IT UP FOR THE NEXT ONE! We can only hope that after Raimi finishes SpiderMan that he will have some good stuff for Evil Dead 4. Who wants some?

Summary: "Honey, You Got Ugly!"
Review: Often referred to as "The Three Stooges vs. The Evil Dead". This is the third and hopefully not the final installment in the Evil Dead Trilogy. We find our hero Ash (Bruce Campbell) sucked into a vortex which sends him back in time to 1300 AD. The Wiseman John knows that Ash is the one written about in the Necronomicom , "he who is sent back to deliver them from the evil deadites". But King Arthur suspects he's one of Henry the Red's men.

After doing battle in the pit, we get a glimpse of Ash's sensitive side. He is able to strike a "deal" with Arthur that if he retrieves the book, they will send him back to his own time. He is instructed that he must say three little words before retrieving the book. If said wrong....he would release the Army of Dead.

While traveling to retrieving the book, he has a little run-in with his evil side. When he finally happens upon the book, he tries to say the words right, really. But, as you can probably surmise from the title, the dead march. Along the way, Ash must do battle with his possessed medieval girlfriend, the Army of Dead, and even himself (as Evil Ash and little Ashes). The end battle scene is a laugh a minute. Complete the trilogy, buy this movie.
