Rating: Summary: DTS experience Review: Ok, the movie is pretty good, I must admit it's you're run of the mill natural disaster movie though! But forgetting about the plot or acting quality for a minute, I want to recommend this movie for anyone with a DTS system. The special effects look and sound amazing. Car crashes, collapsing bridges, erupting volcanoes (duh!), etc. will rattle your living room and make you duck for cover. A definate "must have" in your DTS collection. Hope this helps!
Rating: Summary: great movie no matter what the critics say Review: I don't see how anybody could give this movie a poor rating. I thought it looked like it wouldn't be that good when I saw the previews, but then it came on Cable TV a few months later and I was bored so I watched it. After watching it, I started to tell all of my friends and my family to watch it cause it was awesome. And it is awesome, it has GREAT special effects, good acting, and great suspense. Out of all the special effects movies that came out in 1997, I liked Dante's Peak better than any of them. It's a lot better than Volcano, which was somewhat a clone of Dante's Peak. If you're like me and you like action movies with great special effects, i would recommend picking this one up today!
Rating: Summary: Great Movie Review: I liked this movie alot, it was suspenceful and fun. I also appreciated the DTS (it was worth the extra $)
Rating: Summary: Should Be Seen For It's Spectacular Effects. Review: "Dante's Peak" is a film that is worth seeing only for it's production, for it's incredible and convincing special effects sequences that truly entertain and keep us watching. The screenplay is just a device to put a story behind the eye candy. The story is too predictable and typical, but it's sure better than "Volcano." What we have here is a movie that although has good performances and some nice touches in the story, but is really driven by the cool-looking volcano, lava, debris and mud sliding down a hill with lots of smoke, a lake with water turning into acid, and let's not forget the boiling pool where a couple getting kinky gets crispy. "Dante's Peak" is not "great cinema," but it's entertaining. I wasn't bored. In the end, it was fun.
Rating: Summary: DTS Alone does not make a movie! Review: This was one of the worst acting jobs ever done. However; I must blame the bad acting on the director and the script. If this movie was a comedy I would have rated it higher!
Rating: Summary: AMAZING EFFECTS Review: Why people and critics dumped on this movie, I don't know. It's a good story with likable characters. With amazing special effects. Plus the score is good as well. Fun to watch
Rating: Summary: This movie was awesome. Review: I saw this movie last night on television and I was blown away.hehehee anyway... Everything was good about this movie. The plot andthe characters were good too. I would recommend anyone who loves natural disasters like I do to go see this movie. Even if they don't. It's a love story also. So just go see it. You won't be sorry.
Rating: Summary: A movie excellent for what it is Review: If disaster films are your thing then this is a must! Probably the best out of the several 90s disaster movies, there isn't much story but then again when has there ever been with a disaster movie? I don't think people are looking for enthralling plots and characters, when we hear about such a movie we want to see great special effects and action - which you most definitely get here. The scene when the volcano first erupts, triggering an earthquake, is very exciting and delivers all the desired disaster you could want. I found it took a little while to get started but the action was non-stop after that. This moive is excellent for what it is and should not be criticised for lack of plot and so on.
Rating: Summary: A freightning Disaster film. Review: DANTE'S PEAK, one of the best films of 1997, Is a Freighning suspense disaster movie, that finds a Town on the edge of a Buring nightmare. A Volcano investigator (Brosnan) haunted by his Girlfriend's terrifying death, in a Volcano erruption, Faces his biggest Fear, When He is called down to Dantes Peak. Where He and the town's mayor (Hamilton) try to Confince the residents to abandon their homes,as they about to go through a Electrfying Volcanic Disaster. The Best movies sense Ray Liotta's No Escape (1994) And the best Disaster film of the year.
Rating: Summary: Saving the Stupid Review: Pierce Brosnan plays a volcanologist with a stupid boss. As this is a disaster movie, the boss must die to atone for his stupidity. Linda Hamilton plays a mayor/coffee shop owner with a stupid mother in law. The mother in law must die. She also has a pair of stupid children and a stupid dog, and there are times during the movie when it would be for the greater good if Brosnan let evolution take its course with them too. Basing a movie on stupidity is stupid; it's the lazy writer's way to set up peril, an excuse for technically fine special effects, but not a means to develop characters the audience cares to see saved. The DVD is a good transfer, and has good sound, but it has no extra features, not even the trailer. I'd look elsewhere for places to spend my entertainment dollar.
