Summary: An Excellent Movie...(for a while, at least)
Review: For those of you who get into the movies that you watch, this movie is definitely not for you. It had a good start, with the protagonist being portrayed as a young student, who we learn is the prince of the realm. He is innocent, somewhat naive, and feeling the uncertainties that plague all adolescents. His teacher, a minor character, is basically the supporting actor. Later, during a battle against a peasant uprising in which the king is killed, Prince Einon is jumped on from behind and is mortally wounded. He turns around to see a girl with long red hair who is about his age looking at him. She is the one who jumped on him from behind. We begin to see a plot unfolding; it is quite apparent that the girl (Kara) is going to be the love interest in the story. Queen Aislin takes her dying son and king to a dragon, who gives Einon half of his heart to make him immortal (only after Einon promised to follow the old code; to be fair, just, and lenient on his people).We then skip some years in time, and learn that the movie-makers decided to switch some roles on us. Suddenly, Einon is the antagonist and his teacher, Bowen, the protagonist. I found myself still rather attached to Einon as the protagonist, which led me to believe that he might redeem himself later in the movie. It surprised me to see that he had become an exaggerated copy of the feared monster-under-the-bed that all children experience, but this time in human form. This exaggeration was a little bit too poured-on for my tastes, and the result was melodramatic. I continued watching the movie (which turned out to be a waste of time). Unnecessary violence and melodrama hastened the spiral down into oblivion. To my dismay, I learned that the unprecedented switching of roles had no reason or purpose. As an avid reader, this is unforgivable. Why should it be different in a movie?

Summary: Wonderful movie, but questionable for children's viewing.
Review: Okay, when I saw this movie in theaters, I was nine or ten. Then I thought Dragonheart was an excellent film, and I still do, but there are a few scenes that are still a bit too violent for me. The film isn't excessively gorey, but still many people die in it. The big battle scenes don't bother me, but when there are close-ups on specific individuals receiving fatal wounds, that sometimes bothers me. So, if you are thinking about showing this to your children, I think you should sit down and watch it by yourself so, if you think there's a need for it, you can fast-forward through the parts you don't want your kids focusing on too much. After saying this, I would like to say again that this is a magnificent movie. Despite the violence it has, it could have been a lot worse. Also, surprisingly enough, the language is pretty clean. Nobody swears (to my knowledge, anyway) except when using God's name in vain. So if you can handle movie violence pretty well, you're interested in medevil stuff, and you're fascinated by Draco from reading all of these reviews, I would recommend seeing this film. Also, as my final warning, you may want to have a box of kleenexs ready when you view the end. I don't want to spoil it, but I just want to give you fair warning.

Summary: Light-hearted (and lightweight) fun
Review: No, this isn't the best fantasy movie of all time, and in a genre that's seen its share of stinkers, that's a real lowering of expectations. But having said that, this movie is exactly what it sets out to be: A lightweight and charming fantasy movie that will keep kids occupied and have enough in it to keep adults interested, too. The last of the dragons teams up with a disillusioned noble night turned dragonslayer to con cowardly nobles and, eventually, overthrow the tyrant king who has ties to both dragon and knight. There are a number of artistic choices made in the film that are head-scratchers -- did the dragon have to act and even look as much like Sean Connery as possible? -- but the film clearly isn't meant to be judged in the same category as "American Beauty." (As opposed to the annoyingly self-important "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves," for instance.) Besides Connery, Dennis Quaid is surprisingly good (although his English accent only shows up for about half the scenes), as is a pre-"Starship Troopers" Dina Meyer, who looks more authentic than anyone else in the movie. The dragon special effects hold up surprisingly well, although by 21st century standards, the amount of time the dragon spends out of frame (presumably for budgetary reasons) is fairly glaring. Still, if everyone in the family has somehow gotten tired of "The Princess Bride" (inconCEIVable!), "Dragonheart" is a nice, if distinctly lesser, fun family fantasy film.

Summary: DragonHeart -DTS
Review: An excellent movie, alot of fun for the kids. I seen this movie in the theater with my wife and kids and we loved it. It has the right mix of drama and humor. Never too dull and never too scary, my youngest absolutely loved Draco. When I got my DVD player it was my first choice because of the DTS encoded sound, this brought the sounds of battle and the beating wings of Draco the dragon into our home just like what we experienced sitting in the theater. Great movie for the family!

Review: All I have to say is this is my fave movie of all time ^_^ I've read a bunch of reviews dissing this movie and none of them hold true in my opinion. I'm a dragonluver through and through and anyone who says this movies has no plot doesn't know a good movies when they see one. The ppl of america are too used to movies with nothing but action and thats it. Lets get in our cars and drive around killing ppl, oh yes great movie... :P

Summary: Major let down!
Review: When I first saw Jurassic Park in 1993, my first thought was, "They can use this technology to make dragons." As an avid fantasy reader, I was thrilled when I first saw the trailers for Dragonheart nearly a year before it came out. "It's about damn time," I thought. I picked up my girlfriend in Long Beach and drove 90 mph on a crowded freeway to Hermosa Beach ,scaring the hell out of her and nearly getting us both killed in order to get to the 9pm opening night showing. As my girlfriend and I walked together out of the theater, all I could do was hang my head and beg her for forgiveness,not for driving like a madman and almost getting us killed, but for subjecting her to nearly two hours of cinematic torture. I must admit that the special effects were great. I guess they spent so much money on the effects and Sean Connery as the voice of Draco, that they couldn't afford a decent script writer. "Okay, now I'll put in a scene where the special effects dragon does this, oh and it would be cool if he did this and this too," are some of the thoughts that went through the writers head as he wrote the script. Then, "okay, looking good, but something doesn't feel right. Something is out of place," this about 2/3 of the way through the script. "Aha, I've got it. A plot, I've forgotton to create a good over all plot. Oh my, the script is due in two days, I don't have time to re-write any of it. I'll just create a plot right now," and the writer goes on to hastily assemble a plot completely disregarding any concept of character development and credibilty. Alright, fantasies are supposed to be unrealistic, so what's my problem. Ask any fantasy reader why they enjoy the genre when none of it is real, and they will likely tell you that good authors can make the obviously unreal believable... okay, maybe I'm the only fantasy reader that would tell you that. The point is, my girlfriend dumped me soon after we saw Dragonheart together. I'm positive that the movie was the key contributer to her decision. Definitely not a good date movie!!!!

Summary: If you enjoyed the movie and like DVD extras this is for you
Review: Always on the lookout for great extra features from your favorite movies? Then you'll like this disc. Enough has been said about the movie itself. It's a fun fantasy romp through the middle ages with talking dragons for the whole family. The additional features on the dvd are definately worth the price of admission. Lots of behind-the-scenes production and animation work showcasing the effort put into creating the dragon and its organic "acting". Note: very little with Sean Connery if that should be what you are looking for. The director's commentary is well done as well - if you have been turned off by boring commentaries before, don't give up on them entirely until you've heard this one.

Summary: IMPRESSIVE, I MUST SAY
Review: I first viewed this film at my friend Brett's house. He's got an awsome home theatre, especially with his new front speakers, so it was the perfect place to view the film. I think Brett's home theatre might even be THX CERTIFIED, I don't know, I'll have to ask him. Well, anyway, DRAGONHEART was a fine motion picture. I especially like the fact that the dragon was only seen thru shadows and was recognized simply because of his voice at the very beginning. This was a definate plus in terms of character development. It seemed to make the scenes featuring the dragon much more special and effective. Connery was the perfect voice to be selected for the role of DRACO, the legendary dragon. The sound on this DVD was very well done indeed. In one insidant, Draco can be heard passing from every speaker in the theatre, thus creating the illusion that he is circling around you. This was even more impressive due to the fact that my friends home theatre is evenly spaced out around the room, an effect I only wish could be acheived on my system. Subwolfer has a major role as well, and the bass will not disappoint. Good story, Excellent sound mix, and enchanting music score by Randy Edleman. HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED.

Summary: Great Movie and sound!
Review: Dragonheat is one great movie with spectacular visual effects. The sound on the dvd version is also flawless, one example is the dragon, when it flys around Bowen you actually hear him traveling speaker to speaker, a nice touch. The movie is very well done, the music also is not a let down, a great score. A highly reccomended film!
