Rating: Summary: Great Overall Value; Contrasting Adventure Tales Review: This DVD combining 1989's "Blind Fury" and 1996's "Omega Doom" is a great value for your entertainment dollar. Two adventure tales that take differing paths. Using Lake Tahoe's gorgeous Squaw Valley Resort (home of the 1960 winter olympics) and Reno as the backdrop for most of the scenes, "Blind Fury" is the more typical approach with lots of location changes and several fight scenes. It has a quick pace, playing a blind character shows how good Rutger Hauer can be as an actor. Early 80s heavyweight boxing contender Tex Cobb is well cast as a bad guy. No plot surprises, just sit back and enjoy the action."Omega Doom" is a much more intellectual effort, a minimalist tale with very few locations and somewhat haunting background music. Rutger playing a robot reminds one of his superb robotic performance in "Blade Runner." "Omega Doom" is a mystery/sci-fi flick that has Hitchcock-like suspense, those looking for the special effects-driven movies (shootouts, car crashes etc.) typical since the mid-80s will likely be bored. If you like the first "Salem's Lot" (with David Soul) and its gradual buildup of suspense, you will likely really enjoy "Omega Doom." This DVD combo is a solid value.
Rating: Summary: Very uneasy mix of action and comedy Review: This film combines these two genres and is kind of unsuccessful. There are some interesting action scenes and it does capture the essense of the late '80's action flicks very well, but you're thankful at the end of how short it is.
Rating: Summary: Blind Fury Review: This is a very good film. The main character is a blind sword fighter. The acting is very good. This is an older film, but definitly one for people who like sword fighting. Rutger Hauer proved his great ability in this film. He also played very well in "Blade Runner" too.

Rating: Summary: Good thing it's a two-pack, don't pay for just one of them Review: While "Blind Fury" is certainly a good movie, if you're looking for something in the "kick butt" genre, it drags a little, attempting to rely too much on "charming" interaction between Hauer and his bratty costar than the action. Hauer should have been allowed more action scenes, and given more comedic lines. The young boy character is too much of a brat, and though I'm sure they were attempting to make him "impish", he's more simply foul and annoying. The film's a good one for a lazy summer afternoon when nothing else is on. "Omega Doom", on the other hand, is probably better for a cold, rainy day when you're tired of your other DVDs. It's almost painfully low-budget, and considering the silliness that takes place in it, it could be great. Unfortunately, the silliness comes off as mostly unintentional, and the film seems to take itself almost deadly serious, to the point where something that could have been a huge laugh merely becomes vaguely discomfiting because it's creepy, but not really enjoyable-creepy a la Return of the Living Dead. I'd say this two-pack is worth it, especially if you buy a used copy for less than the regular price. Just don't expect these to be anything other than "slow programming day on the minidish" features.
