Summary: Definitely Worth Watching
Review: This movie is a terrific adaption of Will Shakespeare's classic tragedy, featuring two of the hottest young actors in 'Tinsel Town' as the leading lady and man. Leonardo Dicaprio and Claire Danes made a great Romeo & Juliet. Even though it was a little strange to watch the cast yell out lines of 'ye olde english' while aiming guns at each other, it seemed natural after a while, and gave the film a fresh twist. The look of the settings is also unexpected, but again, innovative and clever after getting used to it. The ending, though not exactly how it would have been imagined from only reading the play, is still moving enough to bring tears to your eyes. It would cause anyone to yell at the screen for Romeo to slow down walking down the aisle, or for Juliet to just wake up already! I would recommend this, especially to any Leo or Claire fans. It's a movie I always enjoy watching.

Summary: Worst adaptation of Shakespeare's play ever
Review: Baz Luhrmann, Leonardo Di Caprio, and everyone else involved in this sorry production should be ashamed. They took a wonderful story and destroyed it, made Romeo into a dislikable druggie hood, and twisted the play's words in ways that would have made Shakespeare weep. Avoid this at all costs. Buy the Franco Zeffirelli version if you want Shakespeare, not MTV.

Summary: Better than I thought
Review: I didn't relize that they were going to use the exact words from the book. I'm not sure if that was a good idea. People who doesn't understand Shakespeare probably won't like the movie. But it's the most refreshing movie I've seen in a long time. It was incredible how well they incorporated the details of the book into the movie. The actors kind of seem to have a hard time speaking Shakspearean English, but they understood enough to say their lines convincingly. Overall this was a great movie.

Summary: Shakespeare in Miami
Review: I am not from the MTV generation but found this contemporary version of Shakespeare's play creative and exciting. The chaos of modern Miami had an almost apocalyptic feel to it with its garishness and clamor (though 15th century Verona was also far more violent than most people suspect today). The nerve-jangling gang wars of the movie were dramatically juxtaposed with the tender encounters of the two young lovers, luminously portrayed by Claire Danes and Leonardo diCaprio. Shakespeare's language worked well because great art transcends time and place and will therefore always be "contemporary." And what a great way of introducing young people to imaginative dialogue, which they surely don't get in "Titanic" or most other oeuvres of the modern cinema. Though all the elements were not perfectly wedded, this movie is certainly a fresh take on one of the great works of literature.

Summary: A new entry for my "Worst Movies" list
Review: I disliked this movie for a large number of reasons- mostly theincomprehensibility of it. It's one of those few movies which has sofew redeeming qualities about it that you want the 2 hours of your life back which the movie stole from you. I understand Romeo and Juliet and have enjoyed several other versions of the film, and I was looking forward to something unique, a modern adaption of the story. Unfortunately, the movie turns into a silly music video that makes so little sense that everyone I know- child, teen, or adult- who saw this movie hated it. The visuals are terrible, always zooming in uncomfortably on everyone's face; everyone overacts, belting out old English without appearing to have any more clue as to what they're saying than the audience. The only good actor in this film was, in my opinion, Claire Danes, who was excellent as the more down-to-earth Juliet.

I have never personally met anyone who enjoyed this movie; of over 30 people I've talked to about this movie, of all different backgrounds, opinions, and levels of understand on Shakespeare, every single person didn't like this movie, and most thought it was one of the worst movies they'd ever seen; so do I. I wasn't able to list most of what I hated about this movie here, since no one would bother to read it; however, I did write an entire essay on how bad this movie was. END

Summary: Much better than I anticipated
Review: Many people who dislike this movie had no idea what they were getting into. You have to know a little Shakespeare or put forth the effort to understand the language. We're used to passive entertainment, but to appreciate this movie you need to take a day or two and read the play. The language does take some getting used to. Many Shakespeare fans dislike the rock-video feel of it, but I don't think that's a drawback at all. Shakespeare wrote for everyone, from the most cultured to the most common, and his plays have immense value on many different levels. There is no golden law that says the plays cannot be taken out of the Elizebethan setting. This film has a weird dystopian feel that I really liked. I can't say I'm a huge fan of Dicapprio but I don't think he killed the language - Kermit the Frog couldn't kill Shakespeare's language. Anyway, if you like Shakespeare already or if you're willing to put forth just a little effort, I think this film has a lot to offer. If nothing else it has exposed the MTV generation (my peers, for better or worse) to a great writer they've usually considered boring and inaccessible. I hope more adaptations like this follow.

Summary: A must see film
Review: If you have not seen this film then you must. This is evreything but newer and fresher it is the way to tell people about romeo and juliet if they do not already know they might understand it better because it is in our time instead of the older one which is set a long time ago. I mean we can all relate this tragic love story oneway or another. This is not just a tragic love story this is us in our deepist moments ever wanting to breath and get away from the one person we love thinking that they are not like us so we should not love them but this movie shows that no matter how much you love somebody or no matter how much other people hate him or her you could still be together without killing yourself.

Summary: a unique and modern love story...
Review: i remember the day my friend jennifer sat me down and told me i would fall in love with leonardo dicaprio if i watched this movie. she was inlove with the whole movie, and of coarse made me watch it. the minute it began.. the movie just kind of jumped at me.. the color, the sound, the whole thing. everything was alive in this film... the actors were amazing. it was beautiful and intresting to see a new take of romeo and juliet. i admit, i was very much into the movie... i loved many of the love scenes because they were alive.. and romantic in a new way. when ever i watch this movie.. i always cry at the end... it's bitter sweet. claire danes is great in this movie... and it really is fasinating to watch. when romeo's and juliet's eyes first meet. i think most girls can say, including me, that we felt like saying "awwwwwwwwww". but it's true :)

Summary: It is a tear jerker!
Review: The reason why I say that is because at the end of the movie i began to cry like I was at a funeral. It also had me thinking about life and what it means and how short it is. How when parents don't get along what you go through. I reccomand that everyone sees it!
