Summary: CHOW YUN-FAT at his best
Review: I have seen the movie 3 times and I LOVE it

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Mira's hot, Chow-Yun's not-so; call it "Woo Lite."
Review: Like THE BIG HIT, this Americanization of John Woo's deliciously over-the-top Hong Kong shoot-em-ups gets the outrageous gunplay right but fumbles the emotional substrata. Chow-Yun Fat, in his first English-speaking role, is reduced to a sullen, Chuck Bronson-style cipher (compare to his swaggering, screw-you cop in HARD BOILED). On the other hand, Mira Sorvino's a delight as a two-fisted passport forger who refuses to be the typical kidnap-victim/cringe-in-the-corner action-movie femme; in every scene, she's tough, sarcastic, and resourceful, with attitude (and gun technique!) to burn.

Summary: if you want blood, action and techno music, just buy it!
Review: This movie is one of a kind, john woo is at his best. If you want blood, action and techno music, just buy it!.

Summary: Forgettable
Review: This is easily Woo's worst movie to date. The characters are two Dimensional and the acting was terrible. Mira Sorvino was irritating,to say the least and Chow-yun-fat acted like he had been lobotomised.

Summary: Outstanding!
Review: I loved this movie! It had everything, lots and lots of action, great lines from Sorvino & Fat, incredible gunfights, a great soundtrack, excellent acting (especially from the two stars) AND Mira Sorvino. What more could you ask for! I was very inpressed w/Fat's first venture here in the states and look forward to seeing him in future action flix. I watched the opening scene in the danceclub and I was hooked! The action started fast and furious and continued throughout. And that move behind his back that Fat does is just too slick. This is one I've watched over and over. One of my All-time favorite action-flix.

Summary: THIS KICKS MAN!!!!
Review: True, while the film is short on original plot and character develoment, it's visual style is unmatched in any recent film. The action is dizzying, fast moving, and all crammed together in one big, bad, and loud 88 minutes. Don't miss it if you love shoot-em-ups!

Summary: A dissapointing movie for Chow Yun Fat
Review: I've been a fan of Chow Yun Fat for a long time, and was looking forward to his preview on the American screen. He is easily one of the most charismatic actors in cinema history. His presence usually dominates the screen, but this movie really didn't do him justice...
This is obviously an "out-for-cash" type of movie, and it exploit Chow's charisma to make a "cool" and "entertaining" flick; Unfortunately, with lack of substance (bad story, bad directing and "bad" actors), it became nothing more but a meaningless and predictable action flick.

The actions are "deja-vu", and appalling in a way, for its clumsiness of re-presenting Chow's famous 360-turn-to-shoot to Western audience. The assassins sent to kill Chow dressed more like very, very bad gangsters, the type that will get everybody attention walking down the street (look at me, I'm out to kill someone !). Chow's character, a supposedly one of the "most" talented assassin out there, turn out to be more like a survivor, rather than a professional and calculated assassin: he usually was caught "surprise" of what was coming to him, yet, he is "cool" enough to disappear into thin air when necessary.

Overall, the "Replacement Killer" is REALLY a badly remake of Wu's famous "The Killer". The title of this movie should give you a hint; "The Replacement Killer" should be named "The (Remaking of the) Killer" for Western audience. If you happen to think this movie is "good", it's ok; there is a good chance that you haven't seen the other movies of Chow. Here is one authentic, true action movie, with Chow's charisma beautifully presented, and Wu's true talent for directing coming through: Get the original Hong Kong classic, "The Killer" and enjoy.

To find a truly talented first-time-out director, see "The Usual Suspect".

Summary: Nothing special, but great fun.

Review: It's obvious that Antoine Fuqua's previous experience includes music video--every shot in this film is beautiful, from the way Chow Yun-Fat's coat floats around him as he plugs away at the bad guys to how Mira Sorvino's hair falls around her face. Even the sprays of blood from wounded gunshot victims are gorgeous. That's one reason to see this film.

Another is Chow Yun-Fat himself. The paper-thin plot and stale dialogue don't give him much to work with, but he makes the most of it--and he's a talented enough actor to raise this movie from mediocre to fairly good. Mira Sorvino is fun too, as a tough-talking forger who becomes a semi-willing sidekick.

But if you're expecting something on the level of Chow's Hong Kong films, keep waiting. This ain't it.
