Summary: What do you mean "Flash Gordon approaching?"
Review: Enjoyable live action comic book fare with rousing soundtrack by Queen. Don't expect anything too serious and you're in for a great time.

Summary: What's the matter with these people???
Review: I love this movie but really.....what is the persentage of people who own huge projection TVs compared to the number of these "widescreen only" video releases (particularly on DVD). I watch the thing on my 27" normal size set and I can't even see the action. Release more movies that have both versions on the disk, please.

Summary: The Greatest Film of All Time
Review: Forget all the "camp" stuff and appreciate this film for what it is. A great and original story with interesting characters, one of the best soundtracks ever recorded, and stunning, unforgettable visuals.

Summary: Cult classic hit.
Review: Stirring soundtrack from Queen, colorful costumes, and and a fascinating storyline. The acting could use some help. But watch for Timothy Daltan, who puts in an excellent turn as Prince Baron. This is one you'll want to watch over and over again... it grows on you.

How can you not like a movie who's main cast of characters consists of a bird man, a prince, a princess, a travel agent, a scientist, an evil ruler of the universe (Ming) and the quarterback for the NY Jets (Flash).

Bottom Line: If you like sci-fi, and have a sense of humor, you will dig this flick.

Summary: A Must for all Children of the 80's....
Review: I first saw this movie in 1982 on HBO when I was all of eight years old--and it ranks right up there with Care Bears, Gummi Bracelets, jellies shoes and loud neon sweatshirts. If I watch it today, I'm struck by how visually loud and unbelivably corny it is, but it still delights me all these years later. Ah-Ahhhhh indeed!

Summary: Campy Fun
Review: Great soundtrack by QUEEN. Fun if a little campy remake of the old movie serial.

Summary: One Of My Favorites
Review: This is a very campy remake of all those serials from early this century. It is always good for the amusement of sci-fi fans. After all the uptight space shows it is very good to laugh.

Summary: A hoot!
Review: Imagine if Fellini had directed Star Trek- go with it.... And ONLY Queen could do a Wedding March this much fun...Visually a treat- so many great wierd costumes, cheese abounds! A treat for the eyes, ears and.....

Summary: Cool Movie, Lousy DVD
Review: This review applies to the current Image DVD release. Most people who purchase Flash Gordon remember it from their childhood and wish to relive a part of it. No complaint there! Unfortunately, the DVD is now out of print and a copy can be expensive. About the only thing commendable about the disc is its widescreen aspect ratio. The soundtrack clearly warbles in places, the sound mix is not in 5.1 and generally lousy, and the video is grainy throughout. This is quite a shame, because the soundtrack and effects lend themselves to a great presentation. There are no extra features at all.

The DVD release rights were licensed by Universal to Image Entertainment. I have purchased 3 Image DVDs and they have all been massive disappointments. Fortunately, Universal re-released Sixteen Candles and I hope they will eventually do the same for Flash Gordon.

Summary: Flash Gordon and Max
Review: Many reviewers have focused on how fun this movie is. Others have commented on Princess Aura who is...very fine indeed. However, I enjoy the performance of Max von Sydow. As Ming, he is perfect. Max has a sneer that meets if not beats that of Harry Potter's Professor Snape. Ming is amazing to the end...or did he end?
