Summary: A heartless travesty
Review: Here we have a visual retelling of every cliche the canon of fantasy has to offer. Unfortunately, "A New Beginning" does not examine its cliches and build a meaningful plot out of them, like the first "Dragonheart" did. No, this abominable sequel simply strings cliches together and hopes that something will come out of it. It goes without saying that the film is a total failure.The plot, in a nutshell: an Orphaned Stableboy with Big Dreams of Adventure finds his way into the Mysterious Dungeon under a Monastery which serves as home for many Dour Monks. Down in the dungeon, Jeoff finds a Young, Insecure Dragon, Drake (who looks very much like an ad campaign for Mattel merchandise). Meanwhile, Lord Osric, a Sheep-in-Wolf's-Clothing, is appointed chief advisor to the Senile King. He's all smiles, but is really plotting to rule the kingdom (serving under a senile king, hasn't he already triumphed?). He's also plotting to conquer the invading "Teregoths" (a Nordic people most often seen in hokey fantasy movies). When, against better judgement, Jeoff gets Drake out of the dungeons, Osric sees his chance for fame. Oh, and there's something about an Ominous Prophecy, a Two-Tailed Comet, a pair of Karate Masters from the Orient (one of whom is really a Girl-in-Boy's-Clothing), and so on. The acting is atrocious. Half of the actors amble about feeling superior to the material. The other half can't act, period (I am reminded of the scene where Lian walks up to the camera, crouches, and speaks directly into the microphone, "That's the stable boy we saw before"). During some of the major scenes, I intently studied the stitching on the characters' robes (is that ... nylon!?). Chris Masterson is very much a one-role man: get him a lifetime contract for "Malcolm in the Middle" and get on with it. Oh, and the dragon. The dragon is the worst thing yet. For starters, it doesn't look like a dragon. It's too colorful and its hips are too wide, as if it already is an action figure. Thanks to Robby Benson's efforts, it doesn't sound like a dragon either. Unlike Draco, Drake has no personality, no character outside of what the plot provides, no mystique, and no conviction. He is the essence of un-dragon. What seems most insulting is that "A New Beginning" goes through the motions of fantasy without even believing in itself. No suspension of disbelief is even remotely possible. What we have here for our viewing pleasure (and I use the phrase loosely) is very-much a cash-in, an insipid, pointless movie with neither (pardon the pun) heart nor soul. Its soul has been sold to toy companies and public interest groups that strive to make movies bland, but inoffensive. A heart it never had.

Summary: Draco, meet Drake. Drake, meet Draco...
Review: How do you spell "DragonHeart: A New Beginning"? A-M-A-Z-I-N-G, that's how. Clearly the animation is better in the original "DragonHeart", but Drake, star dragon of this movie, looks real enough, if not a little cartoonish. The movie itself is clearly aimed at younger audiences, but I would not reccomend it for children under seven. The story itself is pretty straightforward. A bad guy wants to kill the king and take his place. To top it all off, he wants Drake's heart. Luckily for all of you more serious Dragonheart fans, there are many twists and turns to tickle you silly. There are also some silly jokes (one of my favorites being when Drake's fire comes out the wrong end), but the blood and gore is minimal, which disoppointed me somewhat. But just about everything else in the movie made it where I hardly even noticed it. Geoff is a stable boy who dreams of someday becoming a knight. When he discovers Drake in the dungeon the eager boy and the somewhat shy dragon become fast friends. And the ending has a strong chance of making you cry, though not nearly as much as you are likely to cry at the ending of the original. All in all, "DragonHeart: A New Beginning" is a great movie for the family.

Summary: What a scam!
Review: I absolutly loved the first Dragonheart. I was extatic that there would be a sequal. Like the first it had geat morels of honer and courage. Plus it had some good action sequences. Still this was a big dissipointment. First twenty minutes you really want to see Drake. You don't get to see him hatch. Drake was a young dragon that looks like a cartoon. The scam is that the cover has a picture of a realistic dragon. I expected better considering the first Dragonheart was very realistic. Were did Drake come from. I thought Draco was the last one. The two chinise people you don't know if they are good or bad. The karate scenes were stupid and unrealistic. Dragons spiting ice is a bad idea. They can't breath fire and ice. The end battle bettween Drake and the evil dragon who is too small Drake won too easily. The picture quality was hard to tell from the VHS. The first dragonheart had great picture quality. The sound was good at least. The supplements were good telling the story how it was made. If you like dragonheart don't buy this.

Review: I am not someone who hates sequals. I absolutly hate the first Dragonheart it is a masterpiece. Great effects, great story, sad ending. It is a five star movie all the way. This is horible. First of all the effects are awful. Many dragon films form the 1960s looked better. Drake looks like a cartoon. The plot is worse then the effects. It involves finding a dragon egg. Where did he come from. The first said draco was the last one. Now this movie said he wasn't. THIS RUINS THE FIRST MOVIE. The acting stinks. I can't believe anyone over the age of 5 would like this... Watch the first Dragonheart.

Review: I loved this movie! If you liked the first one you definately have to see this one. Its totally different but practically as good as the first ^_^ Dragonheart and Dragonheart: a New Begining are my two fave movies! As you can see I am a dragonluver ^_~ Hey I hope this movie is open for sequels :P

Summary: A New Beginning
Review: I must first confess that while I definitely enjoyed Dragonheart, it is by no means one of the best fantasy movies ever made. However, it had its charms, and so does this follow up. I would not call it a sequel outright, and neither do the film-makers. The subtitle, "A New Beginning," seems to speak volumes. This time the film is clearly marketed toward a younger audience. Violence is taken down several notches, and though the concept of a knight and his friendly dragon return, they are both much younger versions. The opening does little to explain the dragon's egg which brings about the birth of Drake, the new dragon of the film, but it doesn't really need to. However, the movie offers some wrinkles and surprises that make things interesting. The ending was particularly satisfying. The swordfights run from poor to fairly well done (on par with those in the first film), and now East meets West as martial arts comes into the picture. Drake does not look nearly so good as Draco, but you can't expect anything more from a straight to video follow-up. However, this is not to say the visuals do not do their job, and are better than expected. The production values in general are better than most such non-theatrical films. It may be targeted at the young, but fans of the original Dragonheart and older newcomers alike may just be surprised to learn that it's a pretty darn good little fantasy flick.

Summary: Equivalent to the first, just different and minus sean
Review: I really liked this movie pretty much as much as I liked the first. It was completely different, but still good. And no, sean connery wasn't in it, but that didn't seem to matter. I loved the dragons. They were very beautifully designed. Especially the chinese dragon at the end. He was wonderful. I hope they make another one. Maybe tell the story of the chinese dragon more or something. I don't know. I guess when I like an idea, I don't tire of it too readily. I think they did good with the first two and I love dragons and these are some of the best movies about dragons I have seen. The CGI dragons are so cute. So they can make more. Won't wear the idea out for me anyway.

Then I saw the original Dragonheart. I soon found out that this movie isn't as good as the first one. Drake wasn't nearly as cool as Draco. Geoff (the main character) wasn't too great. I even feel that this movie was a bit too predictable at certain points. Other than those flaws, this movie was very good. Another good thing about the DVD is some of the special features on it. They were pretty interesting.

Summary: Dragonheart - A New Beginning
Review: I think that, while this movie was nice, the first Dragonheart was a lot better, which I gave 5 stars. The plot is good, still incorporating the dragon's heart into the movie. The dragon isn't very realistic looking, though, and looks like a cartoon at times. Plus, if Geoff was growing up in England, and everyone else has accents, how come he doesn't? He's a lot more American than English. I think the first movie had more effort put into it as far as graphics and actors. I was somewhat dissapointed when I saw this movie. Although, some people believe the dragons can spit ice as well as fire, which Drake did in the movie.
