Summary: funny horrer
Review: I don't see how people can say its a bad or boring movie. Its a great movie. If you like scarey or gorey things its all there. You get to see people get torn in half and heads ript off and if your not in to that kind of thing its also horlarios. This movie is nowhere near boring, there is something always going on.The sherif is always saying something about the guy who swimes with crocidiels and there always saying funny rode rumarecs to each other. So I would definitly say this is a 5 stare movie and if you havent seen it you should see it right away.

Summary: Lake Boring
Review: I keep comparing this to Jaws. Why can't any animal horror movie be better than Jaws - for 25 years! ) I don't even find Anaconda impressive, yet this is called "this year's Anaconda". The casts are either soulless (Bridget Fonda, Bill Pullman) or annoying (Oliver Platt).

Summary: Has it's moments, but bad all around.
Review: Let's first say that these movies always seem to pair up the male/female protagonists. Here it's Bridget Fonda and Bill Pullman. Also you know with the rules of moviedom, unless they are happily married, they will end up together. Well, if it's inevitable, how come they have no chemistry?

And why is Oliver Platt's character so deliberately annoying? The only redeeming character in the movie is Betty White, who seemed to have taken a few lessons at the Gary Oldman school of overdoing things. However, I relished her damned wit and the writers gave her all the best one liners.

The movie is not scary and we are left with only a few false scares to cling to. Even when the alligator shows itself, are we experiencing a greater heart rate of that of a person sleeping peacefully. This movie is just sooooo boring.

Summary: Betty White cusses and a Crocodile fattens up!!!!!!!
Review: I could not wait for this movie to come out in theaters in 1999, and amongst my friends I was the only one. Why, because it's a cheesy movie about a giant Crocodile in Maine! But if you like monster movies Lake Placid is definitely for you. When the crocodile isn't chomping away at cows or deputies you'll be too busy laughing your butt off at Betty White's tirade of cuss words toward law enforcement! The back and forth bickering between the rich, eccentric crocodile hunter and the local sheriff is hilarious. In fact it was often difficult to figure out if this was a comedy or horror. It's a little bit of both. But Lake Placid can definitely be labelled ENTERTAINING and well worth its purchase price. So if you haven't seen it yet what are you waiting for?

Summary: A Sleeper of a Keeper
Review: I found this in a video store and was attracted by the promotional line, "You'll laugh as often as you scream." I liked this film so much that I *rented* it three times in two months, and since the only letter-box release is on DVD, this is the film that made me break down and get a DVD player so that I could own a copy. Betty White should have gotten an Oscar nomination for Supporting Actress!!

Summary: More humor than horror.
Review: When this movie bombed at the box office, it may have had more to do the way this movie was marketed than with its entertainment value. Viewed as a horror movie, it is a bomb, but as a comedy it holds its own as a fun "summertime" flick. The humor comes mostly from the repartee among the cast who all do decent if not inspired jobs. Although the movie's makers included a few "gross out" scenes that detract rather than add to the movie there is more sarcasm than gore or violence. The body count is actually quite low for this type of movie, even when played for humor. Because the conversations between the actors is critical to enjoying the movie, it is unfortunate that the sound quality could have been better. This is a good summer movie to watch for the fun of it with no complicated plot to get in the way.

Summary: Solid horror movie that deserves more credit
Review: I don't see why "Lake Placid" didn't do better in theatres and isn't more popular than it is. Sure, it's not a classic like "Jaws" and it's not that scary, but it is a solid horror movie in its own right. Somehow, a crocodile has ended up in the cold waters of Maine and some scientists and policemen must do what they can to capture or kill the giant reptile. Of course, the policemen and scientists get in a few arguments about what they should do with the crocodile and how they should do it.

"Lake Placid" has some memorable scenes such as when a cow is used as bait for the alligator and also some good acting from all the actors and actresses, especially Betty White. The special effects are also done well. The way the crocodile looks and moves looks realistic. Bottom line, "Lake Placid" might not be one of the best movies of all time, but it's not that bad. I recommend anybody to add it to their collection of movies. My only complaints are that it was too short and at times it's somewhat predictable.

Summary: Its A Good Time
Review: Much more funny than scary, Lake Placid is a good time overall. Oliver Platt puts on a good performance as usual and you have never seen Betty White like this. There are some good killings but it is not a blood fest. If you are looking for a good movie that you don't have to get to deep into, give this one a watch.

Summary: I Laughed More Than I Screamed
Review: I saw this movie when it came out in the theaters, and couldn't resist picking up a copy when it came out on video. The plot is simple. An alligator is found in a lake in the most unlikely of placesMaine. And, it kills people and wild animals.I thought it was really cool when the first diver gets bitten in half by this thing. Yes, I am a sadist. But don't all horror lovers have a bit of sadism in them? Using the above example, the horror is predictable and somewhat grotesque.I liked the sarcastic humor between the paleantologist (Bridget Fonda), the game warden (Bill Pullman), and the sheriff (Brendan Gleeson). The eccentric widow (Betty White) and the weirder Hector (Oliver Platt) made the movie even funnier. The acting was very well done, I thought. This movie is basically Jaws with a sense of humor.

Summary: A great Campy Horror flick!
Review: This is a great film. I just purchased it today. Don't listen to all the bad reviews, they are wrong. This is a good movie. It's scary and funny. Like the saying on the cover says, "You'll spend as much time laughing, as you do screaming! Buy it!
