Summary: Somewhat disappointing
Review: Lake Placid is an all right film that I initially didn't plan to see, but I decided to go ahead and watch it. Overall, I find it to be a little dissatisfying. The plot revolves around a lake in Maine. A scuba diver who's tagging beavers is killed by an unknown creature. A local game warden, Jack Wells (Bill Pullman), starts to investigate. Subsequently, he is assigned additional help in the form of New York paleontologist Kelly Scott (Bridget Fonda), who works at a museum. From this point forward, they try to figure out who's the owner of the large tooth that's been found and to stop the creature from wreaking more havoc. This movie is straightforward and uncomplicated. I consider it to be in the thriller genre. The aspect of Lake Placid that's flawed is the story line--it's unoriginal and predictable. The performances from the cast are good. The action and special effects are worthwhile. The film moves at a satisfying pace and doesn't become boring. Steve Miner is the director. Lake Placid is rated R, is in color, and 82 minutes in length. It was released in 1999. Even though I think that Lake Placid is somewhat entertaining, I don't find it to be completely gratifying and solid. If it wasn't for the mediocre plot, this would be a better movie. It's okay, and I actually give it 2.5 stars.

Summary: Just enjoy it!
Review: I don't see why people are giving this movie such a hard time. Impressive special effects, witty humor, excitement, and a fairly good plot make this movie something to see, very entertaining. So a crocodile couldn't really survive in Maine's cold waters, who cares, it's just a movie, stop being so nit picky. Who cares if the simple minded audience can't accept the fact that a crocodile can grow so big (even though at last three species are reported to have acquired a length of nine meters)?

Just enjoy it, and before you badmouth it, compare it to other recent reptile movies like Anaconda, Komodo, and Python. It's the best by far! Just watch the movie and enjoy it, that's pretty much what I'm trying to say. signed, World reclaimed volderfreak reviews incorporated.

Summary: pretty darn good
Review: This isn't any award winner, but it is strong across the board. Solid acting, plot, action. Decent effects. Lighthearted humor. I can watch this one over and over. Very entertaining.

Summary: Lake Inferior
Review: David E. Kelley took a break from producing "Ally McBeal," a show about an emaciated lawyer who never eats, to write this horror-comedy about a giant crocodile who tries to eat everything. Bill Pullman (fitting, since scientists have since revealed Pullman himself to be a cold-blooded water-dwelling reptile) stars as the boring guy who wants to stop the crocodile, and Bridget Fonda plays the crocodile's love interest, a down-on-her-luck waitress given a share in a winning lottery ticket by nice-guy cop Nicholas Cage in a completely different movie.

And because David E. Kelley never wrote a line he didn't think was pure genius, instead of suspense and interesting things like... I dunno... people getting eaten by giant crocodiles, "Lake Placid" consists mostly of scenes of people spouting off rancidly bad, supposedly clever dialogue, then accidentally falling into the water from the safety of boats. Fonda falls in no less than 1000 times. Pullman's sonambulant "charisma" (he's the poor man's Bill Paxton, and I defy you to tell them apart) will make you wish you'd fallen in instead. A crocodile expert (Oliver Platt) joins the hunt, and begins a strangely homoerotic love/hate relationship with the sheriff (Brendon Gleeson).

Eventually, director Steve Miner exhumes the dessicated corpse of one of the Golden Girls and has her curse nonstop for 20 minutes to fill out the film's paltry 82 minute running time. Which will still seem about 80 minutes too long. Actually, if it weren't for scenes featuring geriatric cursing or clumsy people flinging themselves from speeding boats, the rest of the movie could possibly occur in the amount of time it takes a hummingbird to flap its wings once.

Which, strangely enough, is about the amount of time this film features interesting events.

Still, this is arguably Kelley's best screenplay about a giant crocodile since his attempt at the kiddie cartoon "Alligator McBeal," about a reptilian lawyer who eschews food in favor of same-sex kisses from Lucy Lion, another lawyer with a dominatrix streak. That is, until Steve "Crocodile Hunter" Irwin captures McBeal and forces her to eat his baby. Weird guy, that David E. Kelley!

PS- Ah, two attempts at "Ally McBeal" mockery in one review of a movie Calista Flockhart doesn't appear in, and probably never even saw!

Summary: Great comedy great movie
Review: This is a great movie that has comedy and adventure. It has such a great plot to it and keeps you wondering what will happen next. It starts out with the sheriff and a guy from fish and game. The comedy starts right away but so does the killing. They are there to tag beavers the fish and game guy is I mean. The story takes you on a thrill ride that keps you interested. The plot is that a bunch of people try to find out whats in the lake in Maine. They then try to capture the Asian Crocodile. Just as you begin to think that they have the croc traped you get another spine tingleing twist turning up.I highly recomend this movie to just about anybody who likes to laugh as much as they do scream. With stand up acting this movie will keep you at the edge of your seat waiting for more.

Summary: Funny, but stupid
Review: This movie is abosultely pointless. There was a good plot, a very good plot, but they didn't carry it out. The movie is only 80 minutes long. Disney movies are longer than that. In my opnion, the filmakers just stopped trying. The movie had a some funny jokes. Betty White as Mrs. Bickerman was hilarious as the mean old lady on the lake. And, the special effects were very good. It almost seemed life like. And all of the actors were good, too. But what made this movie horrible was the ending. It was horrible! The movie like just ended. But, there may be a sequel on the way because at the end, Mrs. Bickerman was feeding baby crocs. So yes, if you want a few good laughs, rent this movie. If you want scares, rent something else.

If I may suggest something, if you want to buy this movie, please rent it before you buy it. I am glad I made that decision because I was about to buy it until I rented it. I am glad I did that because there would go $15.00 I'll never see again.

Summary: Funnier than some comedies...
Review: Lake Placid is a comic horror spoof with plenty of gory scenes and many funny scenes. The characters are all a delight especially the eccentric Oliver Platt's character. I thought it was gonna' be a 'Jaws' rip-off, but I was wrong. This is a very entertaining popcorn-kinda-film that is funnier than such crap comedies as 'Big Mommas House'...

Summary: Bad Movie
Review: Really bad movie. I like Bill Pullman because he is a UMass guy, but this movie was really stupid. Rent it if you want, but do not buy it.

Summary: Funny, entertaining, and great special effects!
Review: What I hate about most movie reviewers is that they are too serious. Take Roger Ebert's review of Lake Placid, for instance. (If you haven't read it, find it on the net somewhere.) People need to just sit back, relax, and enjoy. Lake Placid is everything a good-natured, semi-spoof, creature feature should be. Key words: semi-spoof. THAT'S why LP isn't scary. The script works, the acting is brilliant, the soundtrack is great, and above all the special effects are jaw dropping. Oh, and the one-liners and fellow character bashings are hillarious. So dig in...and enjoy.

Summary: Placid
Review: I have mixed feelings about this movie. On the good side, it's funny and theres a giant crocodile that eats cows and people. A couple problems i saw was that this movie is no longer than an animated movie by Disney (about 75 minutes long). But the biggest problem that I saw was that the crocodile killed only like 2 people and 2 animals. Granted, they were cool scenes, but I just wish I could've seen more like this. Its one to rent, but dont buy it until you see it.
