Summary: SIN WAS A GOOD MOVIE!
Review: A RETIRED DETECTIVE [VING RHAMES] GOES BACK TO UNDERCOVER TO CATCH A SADISTIC CRIMINAL [GARY OLDMAN]. THINK OF IT AS A DEATH WISH-TYPE MOVIE. THE MOVIE HAS GOOD ACTING, GOOD ACTION, AND A THRILLING STORY. I THINK EVERYBODY DID A GOOD JOB IN THIS MOVIE. SURE, IT'S NOT ALWAYS ON THE MONEY, BUT, IT IS AN ENTERTAINING MOVIE. AS ALWAYS, VING RHAMES PLAYS THE TOUGH GUY AND HE DOES A GOOD JOB AT IT TOO. AND GARY OLDMAN ALSO DOES A VERY GOOD JOB AT PLAYING THE VILLAIN. THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE WHOLE MOVIE IS THE QUICKSAND SEQUENCE. THAT SCENE WAS SERIOUSLY THRILLING. I ADVISE EVERYONE TO GET DOWN TO YOUR LOCAL VIDEOSTORE AND RENT THIS NOW!

Summary: SIN
Review: A strange film this, it has the feel of an HBO film and some bizzare sequences like a very unnesscary car chase that dose not end.A great actor like Gary Oldman sleepwalks through his token signature bad guy role,he is still brilliant.
Ving Rhames makes his mark as a relentless vigilante, with the use of one arm. Watch out for the quicksand sequence!
Apart from some good peformances this is a weird film.

Summary: Disappointing
Review: As an avid Oldman fan, I am used to seeing some bad films of his where there is fabulous acting. But this film was a major disappointment. Some of it was disturbing, but most of it was unrealistic. Gary Oldman always makes a great villian, but this wasn't his best work, either. The DVD had no special features!

Summary: worth watching
Review: I found this to be an entertaining movie. No, it wasn't nominated for any awards, and rightfully so. But, that is no fault of the actors in it. Ving Rhames and Gary Oldman, gave their usual great performances, to an average movie. Rhames plays a tough ex-cop with a questionable past. Oldman plays a treacherous pornographer, out for revenge. My only complaint, is that there are several scenes with poor lighting. I don't know if this was done for dramatic effect, but it didn't work for me. I was pleased with the way the movie conveyed the message of how violent their world was, without being "overly" graphic. Overall, I say this movie is worth watching.

Summary: Pocket Change...?
Review: I'm guessing Gary Oldman just needed some pocket change for his own projects because this movie was a painful joke. Though Ving Rhames is customarily a likable fellow, if not for Oldman, I wouldn't have given this film a second thought... or a first for that matter. Because I'm a die hard fan, I own it, and will of course watch his better scenes - he always keeps his integrity even when put in a film that has little.

As for the rest, it is slow and low budget with a hero nearly as corrupt as the bad guy, which is usually all right with me if there's some complexity to his character (ie: Leon, the Professional). Nothing complex about this hero, though. Perhaps we were supposed to root for him because he wasn't the grosser of the two? Or maybe because he had a bum arm?

On the brighter side, in spite of the rest of the script being incredibly wooden, a truly unique scene is the one in which we get to see Gary Oldman's bad guy posing as a very endearing, down-to-earth gas station attendant. The dialogue is notably good here, reasonably philosophical and well-delivered by both Rhames and Oldman; it makes me wonder why the writer didn't work harder to make the rest of the film as palatable.

Summary: Death be not proud...
Review: SIN is a minor movie with a fairly substantive message once we get to it. The film is out of focus, meandering between the beauty of the Nevada desert and the wildlife of downtown Reno, and these poorly edited sequences blur the product and pull the film down. Ving Rhames is a man of the desert, having been dismissed from the police department for some specific blunders - 'sins' as it were - and is left with a moaning existence, a once strong man left with a useless left arm trying to keep his sister from spinning down the drug abuse whirlpool. Gary Oldman is the mastermind, omniscient bad guy out for revenge for his brother's death at the hands of Rhames and in an eye for an eye retribution - his target for retribution is Rhames sister. His stalking of Rhames and the ultimate confrontation of the two 'sinners' who must deal with 'the wages of sin is death' curse make up the bulk of this dark film. One comes away from watching this film feeling that a serious re-write of the bulk of the script might have lead to an insightful statement. But the usual patter of Hollywood pizzazz stealing the eye from the brain puts this movie in purgatory. Good actors make the best of a bad situation.

Summary: Pretty good revenge movie with Oldman and Rhames
Review: This is a pretty good cop revenge movie. Ving Rhames as
Eddie Burns tracking down the thugs who raped his sister and
sold as porn is great. Oldman as Charile Storm the old enemey
of Eddie whose out for his hide because of what he did to his
brother is good too.

Sure the movie isnt anything new but Rhames is hard to ignore
as is Oldman, the cop shoot scenes is played well and there is
some good suspense especially with the info about Eddie's
partner who might be betraying him.

Check out Sin.
