Summary: Ed Gein deserves better
Review: Wisconsin serial killer Ed Gein proved to be one of the defining figures in the annals of American criminology, his crimes inspiring such classic films as "Psycho," "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," "The Silence of the Lambs," and even "American Psycho" (but more so the novel than the movie). At this point, though, a flat-out documentary on the man seems almost redundant, but "Ed Gein" at least TRIES...

...and ultimately fails. While historically accurate, this movie is limited by its low budget and an incapable supporting cast. The Midwest setting is convincing, however, and Steve Railsback (who played Charles Manson in "Helter Skelter") is excellent as Gein, who grew up with a religious-kook mother (Carrie Snodgress, who poorly imitates Piper Laurie's character in "Carrie") and views his murders as 'God's good work.'

Gein's life story is indeed one worthy of celluloid, but any fans or curiosity seekers will probably be left cold by this film. The acting is mostly horrible, the flashbacks are unconvincing, and the grisly details are poorly rendered (I blame the low budget for that). I only give it two stars for Railsback's excellent portrayal, but other than that you'd be better off renting one of the movies I mentioned earlier.

Summary: Excellent and done right! SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!!!
Review: Possibly the most accurate life story of someone I have ever seen. I have read all the Ed Gein books and found the movie to be true to documented events which I have read about. Steven Railsback is superb as Gein. One must have an aquired taste for this film. If you are into the weird and strange or a Gein fan, SEE THIS MOVIE. Ignore the negative reviews.

Summary: Ed Gein
Review: The only way you wont like this movie is if you have no attention span. If you know the story of Eddie Gein, this stays pretty true to the facts. i recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good serial killer movie. Ed Gein inspired Norman Bates, Leatherface, and Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs.

Summary: ED GEIN 2001 - This is NO "Deranged"!
Review: I'll keep it short & simple - a decent account of Ed Gein's "hobbies"......... a little short in my opinion & it leaves out WAYYYYYYYY too much. Very little gore is included. I can't understand WHY this movie was having problems getting released.... it's not gory at all & not very scary or disturbing either. I hope Rob Zombie's "House Of A 1000 Corpses" fares better. If you are looking for the DEFINITIVE film on Ed Gein..... try "DERANGED"....... it blows this movie away.

Summary: ED GEIN
Review: The movie was slow , That is true but more i think about it, It really is not that bad of a film. It is no DERANGED but it delivers. If your looking for a blood bath this is not the movie most of the killing is off camera use your imagination, It is more graphic then what you view. Its not often you see a ed gein film around yes it could have a little more blood to it but what are you gonna do. The movie is not that bad give it a try you might like it. For the people who dont know of him then im sure you will like it.

Summary: A disturbing, dark, but thoughtful look inside the mind of
Review: serial killer Ed Gein, one gets the sense immeadietly that while the facts will be dished out accurately for sure, the filmmakers had no intention of simply writing Gein off as pure evil.

Mentally tortured and brainwashed by his mother Augusta, and subject to further physical abuse by his father, Gein never developed enough of an individuality to sustain him once his beloved mother dies.

Steve Railsback masterfully plays the role of Ed Gein with what seems to be a subtle affection for the killer, and Carrie Snodgrass as the mother seems to also be in tune with her character. Acting is spotty other than these two leads, but Railsback and Snodgrass play the two characters that had to pull this off if it was going to work. And somehow, it does.

Shying away from exploitation at every turn, (just when you think you might see something unwatchable, we cut to another scene), the memory of not just Gein but also his victims is in good hands.

Hollywood has yet to really try and explain away the melted minds of serial killers like Dahmer or Gacy, and while Ed Gein will hardly cause you to forgive the atrocities that Gein caused, it does go a long way in helping you to understand where this otherwise "normal" guy got off track.

Summary: Horrible, Awful, and Terrible
Review: OK, i can not possible understand how this movie has been getting some decent reviews from people on sites like this and imdb.com. It was seriously one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my life. The acting was wretched, and the direction just as bad. I can't believe I actually spent 4 bucks and rented this. Please, please, please, stay away from this movie. I don't care if its a true story or not..it was just one of the worst 90 minutes I've ever spent in my life.

Summary: Ed Gein
Review: The movie was slow, It had some good elements to it and followed the gein story in some ways, But it lacked the violence that ed had done.If you are gonna make a film about gein then do it right there is alot of things that should have been in this film that were not. Mother should have been seen in her shrine, You never see ed trying to fix her up with other peoples skins or even going into her room. This should have been a major role in the film. Why feel sorry for ed that seems like what the director was aiming for, Dont get me wrong ed dancing in the moon light was classic, For die hard gein fans i still think the classic DERANGED delivers the goods.

Summary: Ed Gein is Great!!!!
Review: While the whole world was out getting mummified this weekend, I saw this impressive low budget shocker instead, and I'm glad I did...Character actor Steve Railsback is genuinely creepy as the title character and Carrie Snodgress(The Forsaken) is terrific as his mother. All of us are familiar with the story of serial killer Ed Gein, the man who actually penned that phase. We have seen almost all other movies based on his life-"Psycho", "Texas Chainsaw Massacre", and "Silence of the Lambs" being just a few of the over 40 films. There is nothing really surprising about the film, and hardly anything we, or at least I, didnt already know, but it is engrossing nonetheless....the performances, the screenplay, and just the whole dark mood throughout make it worthwhile. My only complaint was the cheesy fire effects, which looked terrible...however that was one mere second of a film that brilliantly goes inside the head of a brutal serial killer and makes us see just how twisted Ed Gein really was....the film really pleased me. I knew I was going to like it, but I had a feeling that it was going to make me feel sick because of all the twisted things Ed Gein is known for....the violence and the gore are handled with style however and they are all off-screen, much like "American Psycho", which was also based on the life of Ed Gein...this movie really is terrific and definitely recommended....my friend thought it started off slow, but it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through....there was not a slow moment throughout the whole movie and at a mere 85 minutes, it was at perfect length....whatever u do, see this movie....it's great....
