Summary: Are you people on a different planet?
Review: I've seen this movie a few times and have some close roots to the Boston / South Boston area. Forgetting any factual references and judging this movie solely on it's cinematic merit, well, it's pitiful! Wahlburg (sp?) does nothing but scowl the entire time with his friar tuck haircut and I almost break out in hysterical laughter with the Irish mob who hang in the underground dwellings in their leather jackets, turtlenecks, and scally caps. This is pure trash all the way from start to finish with Rose McGowan acting as if this were her first role...what a pathetic performance. Please, save yourself.......don't get this!

Summary: Trying to decide VHS or DVD? DVD Extras on this movie
Review: If you have a DVD and VCR and want to buy this movie, get the DVD. I'm so glad I did. They have a commentary from John Shea, Donnie Wahlberg, and the guy who played Danny's nemisis (sorry forgot his name) and they voice over as the whole movie plays and describe what was going on in the scene, what they were thinking, and alot of details, explanations, behind the scenes, and humorous anecdotes step by step through the movie. I think I've watched it more than the movie. As for the movie, I concure with the other folks: Great movie. Im Irish and from Southie, and its an excellent portrayal.

Summary: Was that me in the movie?
Review: It's ironical because my name is also Joe Ward. I loved this film!!!!! I grew up in Southie, but I saw a lot of myself in Wahlburg's character, and not just because we share the same name. Waste no time in adding this gem to your collection.

Summary: Donnie Wahlberg's best performance ever
Review: Southie is a true-to-life film that depicts the hardships of life in South Boston, and one man's struggle to keep his life together amidst all the temptations. Donnie Wahlberg delivers a profound portrayal of Danny Quinn, and i must say it is his best performance ever. Rose McGowan also delivers a compassionate portrayal of his sister, Kathy, who is trying to battle her own demons. I was very impressed with this film and its ability to deal with so many issues that are part of everyday reality all at once. My congratulations to everyone who was involved with this movie. Job well done.

Summary: this movie shows donnie`s true self and independence.
Review: The movie southie takes place in boston, a place I`ve always wanted to visit. Donnie is my favorite actor and he always will be. The movie is full of action. I consider the plot of this movie to be very interesting because it teaches you that people can change, and in order to help others, like family, you have to help your self first, even if it means going away for a while.

Summary: What a great film!
Review: This film is an excellent portrail of an Irish-working class family. John Shea has directed a masterpiece. I highly recomend this movie. The DVD is excellent becasue of the great commentary. If your looking to have a fun dramatic experiance "Southie" is a great way to spend a saturday evening.

Summary: A good film about life on the mean streets of South Boston
Review: This is a pretty good film about South Boston. It shows the mean streets of Southie and the gangsters who inhabit them realistically. The story centers around the vicious Irish gangs that run the neighboorhoods, and how (unlike thier laughable Italian counterparts)the Irish mob is a truly dangerous and brutal group of people. The film is also a great showpiece for Whalberg and McGowan, both of whom are great in the fil. The director John Shea is pretty impressive here, and we need more Irish-American filmakers to aspire to the level of excellence shown by the great Scorsesse.

Summary: South Boston as it really is - Not as Hollywood imagines it!
Review: This is the real McCoy! Tough, and at times unhappy and unpleasant, but a depiction by knowledgable, real "Southies," including Donnie Wahlberg. If you are looking for a "tell it like it is" tale, see Southie. It's not Hollywood's concoction structured to fit what Hollywood thinks we want to see.
