Rating: Summary: Great low budget film! Review: "Southie" is a great low budget movie that captured the spirit of the blue-collar community of South Boston, Ma. Former New Kids on the Block singer, Donnie Wahlberg was superb as the lead actor who returns home from NYC and attempts to change his life and help his mother (played by Anna Meara) get his siblings straightened out. His struggle to persevere in an environment that resists change was well-presented. This movie held me spell-bound from beginning to end. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: OK, so not that bad Review: A look into the Irish-American ghetto life. Mark Whalberg portrays a good Timberland boot wearing Irishman, from which his life is threatened by other hoods in the area. When his mom starts dying, Danny Quinn must decide whether he should kill her himself, or he should commit suicide in order to stay ''real''. When a NYC Irish crime family invades South Boston, Quinn must fight for his neighborhood. Compelling and worth a look, but dont bust in your pants.
Rating: Summary: The "real" Good Will Hunting Review: Good Will Hunting was a joke, written by kids from one of Bostons wealthiest suburbs (like they would have any clue about life in Southie). If you want a taste of what it is like to be "Boston's White Poor", and not some ridiculous HollyWood fantasy, see this. Personally, I was not a fan of Wahlberg or Mcgowen, but this film really shows that they have some real talent. The caracters in this movie were so true to life, half of them could have been people I have known. The best low budget film I have seen in a long time. If you liked this I also recommend "Monument Ave", a similar movie about Southie's "Cousin" Charlestown (another violent Boston neighborhood).

Rating: Summary: It was as bad as it looks Review: I grew up in Charlestown and moved to Southie when I was in college because it was closer, so I'd seen those things portrayed here as well as in Manument Av. I could really identify myself with characters. All the stuff in these movies seem pretty bad, but, once they become part of your daily life, you can deal with them like normal things. Of course, you hate them and can't stand them, but, in the end, you just say, "What the hell, I am stuck here and gotta learn to live with them." It has been almost two years since I left there. I was almost forgetting what it was like to live in that type of neighborhood. Then this film reminded me that I did not leave much of anything I should miss. It was a completely different feeling from what I felt after watching GWH or even AMcB.
Rating: Summary: It was awesome! Review: I loved it. Donnie is an amazing actor. If you like Donnie as much as I do or South Boston get it. The movie takes you through the life of South Boston and you can't stop watching it. I say that everyone should get it. Especially if you are a Wahlberg fan.
Rating: Summary: Southie Review: I loved this movie from the first time I saw it at a screening. This is a great story that shows how life is in South Boston. I love this movie because you can feel the true compassion in Danny Quinn (Donnie Wahlberg). The fact that this movie was written by Southie-born actor James Cummings, who also played Joey Ward, you feel a sense of realism. A insiders point-of-view. All actors put their heart into these charcters and you can feel that as you watch this film. Donnie Wahlberg is awesome in his first leading role ... he is on his way to stardom. I highly recommend this movie to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Great movie Review: I really dug this movie alot. It captivated me throughout. Donnie Wahlberg and Rose McGowan delivered terrific performances. It really moved me. I give it two thumbs up.
Rating: Summary: Best Independent Movie of the Year Review: I saw Southie at the premiere in Boston. This movie is the directorial debut of John Shea who is an actor. It lacks the pizzazz of special effects but has the warmth of true to life actors, places and emotions. This movie is raw and true to life about the people in Southie and anyone would enjoy this film and what it has to offer. Donnie Wahlberg does an excellent job in his first lead role and he is on his way to following in brother Mark's footsteps. Rose McGowan also puts some feeling into her role as Donnie's sister. This movie is worth the money that it is going for right now. **** stars in my book! Thanks, Stacy
Rating: Summary: Surprised Review: I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this film. I even watched it twice. Not that its excellent, it isn't. The story line is simplistic, the acting isn't special, its low-budget. But it works. The real life locations it was filmed in and Donnie Wahlberg's effective performance make this one worth looking at.
